Is Tera any good ? I don't hear mutch about this game. And last thing I did hear was that korea has a cash shop in it right now. So why did this game not really succeed in Korea ? And why would it be different in EU and NA ? I bought the game already but have not played it yet. I like PvP and the combat sounds awesome too, but they don't really give you a reasen to PK somone which makes it fun to PK just for no reasen, but I bet it gets boring prety quick. Does this game has any content that keeps you around for a while ? Or is it like Rift where you run trough content in a week or two and then you leave and never come back ?

I played the beta and I can honestly say if it didn't plan t have a subscription I would pick it up.
Sub games are become a thing of the past.
If you haven't played a series of other MMOs in the recent past, then TERA is not a bad game at all! It's just a similar take on what is already out there, so I don't think people know how to react to it, since there are other games currently in line for release that claim to be something "different".
If you can, keep your eyes on these forums for beta keys that some generous folks keep giving away, and try it out on a beta weekend. You might like it.
The combat is going to be the shinning point in this game. It's action combat and not your tab-target mechanic you may be used to in games like Rift, WoW or SWTOR. You get the aiming reticle like a FPS and target your mobs that way. I only got to level 14 on this last beta weekend as a Slayer I found him fun and more enjoyable than the Sorcerror I rolled the weekend previous.
There's one more Open Beta coming up next weekend or in two weeks not sure, but you should download it and give a go. I'll say now that the weak point is definately going to be questing. If you want to know Lore you'd probably be better reading a book for the game or something. I mean the NPC questing is just really grindy.
Fortunately I think En Masse knows this already and that's why the combat is the focal point on this game along with the open world PVP. Know now there will be gankers.
There's going to be a political system and some battlegrounds. So that could turn out to be pretty cool; I don't think it will be on some Archage scale because that looks really interesting as far as sandbox. Tera is not a sandbox, its really a themepark of cute little rides and monsterous rollercoasters everywhere. Fun though and it's not overdone in my opinion..
P2P I don't think I'll be playing but I'll play another beta weekend and I would probably play if it was F2P. (I don't play ANY right now). I just have too many others games lined up right now. TSW, Planetside 2, Diablo 3, ArcheAge?...

The story quests are interesting and should be followed. They're not grindy, provide you with story and lead you to unexplored areas.
The yellow quests I call tasks. They're there to help people level up. For the starting area, the Isle of Dawn, up to the quest that has you kill basilisks and the ones leading to the first instance you can't avoid them unless you love grinding mobs.
I can see how this is a problem for many and you should be given more options as to how you want to level up, from the get-go.
Thank you all for the quick replays! I like the idea of Tera, its just more that I am scared I run out of content after a week. In Korea people quit because of the lack of content, so I hope we already get everything Korea did not get at launch.
- Why is there not that much hype?
Simply put because Tera already launched in Korea more than a year ago. Technically is not a "new" game.
- Why did it fail in Korea?
Lack of endgame content. Even the developers admitted it.
- will it go different in the west?
We don't know. There is a bit more endgame content at launch in may than there was in Korea last year but it doesn't look like they learned their lesson since they are launching now without battlegrounds (and bgs are a major feature of every themepark mmorpg)
We have to wait and see. I guess August will be the time to judge if the game has a bright future or it will be so so.
I don't know I tried to read through a few of these quest as I was getting them and alot of them had me moving to the next zone to kill some mobs marked us underlinded text. I found myself kind of droned out with killing things, since I would be seeing the explmation points in every zone I went to for the quest. That is where the grind comes in for me. It's not a complete bad thing however because the combat is that satisfying and I was only level 14. I'll probably roll a Lancer next or the Mystic to give it a go one more time. So I don't feel the game is ruined because the questing seems a bit repetitive.
I'm sure once you officially are off the starting zone they become more varied and little more in depth. The game did originate in Korea and that can't be thrown out completely. They have a different style of play just as we from them I welcome what ever these titles bring as long as it motivates and innovates.
The grind will always be there in some fashion its all about finding new ways to mask them, make them more refreshed and refined.

The game felt like I was playing Forsaken World or something similiar. Cannot justify a monthly sub on this one.
I played Forsaken World, aside from the nice looking graphics which reminded me a lot of Lineage 2 everything else felt clunky and I absolutely hated the combat. It had no weight and the animations were poor.
I strongly disagree and I'm semi shocked you'd compare it to FW.
I never played Forsaken World, but I got to say the combat is pretty satisfying in Tera. I found myself a many occassions grunting as I'd dash and swing that greatsword around. Knocking down the mob then being open to another combo for some more bashing and what nots. Even getting knockdown myself wasn't so bad after I got the pop-up attack.
It has a good feel when making contact with weapons. Casters might feel a bit different and that might be why I didnt enjoy mine.
/shrug I'm out..

I am more hopeing on Vindictus with good PvP
I really liked the look of tera and enjoyed the small amount of beta I tried. But with GW2 very close I just dont want to waste the money knowing full well I will stop with tera and play GW2.
I liked GW1 played it for more then 1500 hours. My problem with B2P games is that in GW1's case they only released 3 new expansions and beside that they did not really have content updates. Unless this is different in GW2 I will not buy GW2
They had quite a few free content updates. The reason they stopped with the expansions after the 3rd was because they decided to make GW2 instead. They were making an expansion called Utopia when they decided that with all the changes they would be better off making an entirely new game.
Back to the OP question, TERA is ok, its a pretty standard themepark with action oriented combat. Basically TERA is the lovechild between an action RPG and WoW. Most people have played it already, which is why theres no hype, people who like it are in beta and are going to play, those who dont like it are waiting for GW2, Archage or TSW.
I was actually planning on picking this game up before I went through a beta. After i was able to beta test the game, I decided that it just wasnt for me. The combat is fun but the kill this, gather that quests started to get very repetative. Also, after getting lost in the main city for about half an hour started to wear on me a bit. It was funny since after I left the main city, I couldn't figure out how to get back to it. I by no means want my hand held through a game but this game just seemed to throw a bunch of stuff at you without much direction. I mean I wasn't sure why I am really killing stuff or what purpose my character even had in the game ;/
I may re play it when its f2p but with a sub its not worth it IMO.
Thanks

Like TOR, Tera has placed every single egg into one basket. They're counting on people absolutely loving the combat. They don't or can't show off the other thing that initially interested me; the political system and territory control. Without knowing more about those two things, the only area that Tera excels in is combat .I don't think there's a lot of hype because I think the game is being poorly received by the majority.
Before someone calls me a hater, I already pre-purchased the game, and plan to play, but I am placing all of my eggs into a basket as well. If the political system, PVP, and territorial control are awesome, then I will be a happy customer. The combat simply isn't a big enough hook for me, but I'm willing to give EME/BHS a chance.
Worth playing? Depends on what you are looking for. I would take opinion pieces with a grain of salt. If you're interested in playing TERA there is a four day open beta and they will keep accounts past launch without purchase.
My opinion piece is that it's a quality open world MMO. Graphics, animation and gameplay are a step beyond your typical themepark game. There are a lot of options from other games and added some of their own, there is a lot to do. Lots of group content as well.
Bad parts of TERA as compared to other MMOs are the quests and lack of raids. Quests are there, and there are a lot of them, but they are mostly "kill x, collect y, talk to z". As mentioned above the main story quest is nice and although you can level effectively killing monsters this might not cut it if you like to quest your way to max level.
All end game and group instanced content to this point in NA, barring EME patch notes otherwise, is single group content. The nexus, or Rift-style invasions are overland and I don't consider dungeon raiding.
Just not worth my time anymore.
Tera is good for me.
wether is good for you, only you can answer that. try one of the betas, and judge yourself
the most hyped game atm is GW2.
i believe Tera will find it's own place in the MMO Genre, and will also attract a certain type of gamer.
The combat is different enough to keep the game refreshing... but everything else keeps me from buying the game. If they changed the combat to something different, I don't understand why the rest of the game is the same as previous mmos. I mean, at least try something different.
If they had put as much energy into the presentation of quests as they did into the combat, TERA would've been a great game. As of now it's just okay.
For me I would be playing Tera if it had been released a year or so ago. Right now I am waiting on other games ( GW2 & TSW)
Tera is a great game from what I can tell after playing a few Beta's. EM is a good solid publisher I think for the US. Overall looks to be fairly solid overall. I think the timing for the release will hurt them more than anything. If they would have released even 6 months ago I would probably have picked it up.
Oh well, only so much time and so many games. At least there are options this year for gamers in general.
I already downloaded Aion and its F2P 4/11till GW2 comes out. If u are going to grind a PVE game Aion has more to offer than Tera.
I will be playing Tera, but I think the questing system is very boring so its turning off a lot of people.
I dont know if it changes much after level 20 , but the start its really boring questing.
So we will see if the combat will be enough to get it going and see if the end game is any good
I think it is hyped. Not too much though.
I've pre ordered, can't wait to play, I was struck this weekend by how different every class plays...
Was a tank this past weekend, lancer, was very very fun. Took some getting used to but finally managed to beat a few people in duels and got the hang of tanking some BAM bosses...
My friends and I even killed a 28 world boss when we were 25, was very very hard, even when I blocked it would still hit for almost half my life.
I've not had that much pulse pounding edge of your seat oh god i'm gunna die feeling since nin taning in FFXI.
I haven't tried it but it looked very similar to Forsaken World to me.
With the other games out and coming out soon, it doesn't really offer much. It looks destined to be a F2P within a year or so.
