Since we have not recieved invites or notification for any Beta event for this coming weekend I'm deducing that we'll be having one the following weekend.
The Count Down Begins!!!
10 Days Until 1st Post Pre Purchase Beta!!!!
(btw the title is reference to beastie boys)
You know if you go without sleep for 10 days results won't be pretty. 2 weeks is the longest someone survied without sleep usually in 10 days your kidneys will shut down, your finger nails will start to peel off etc. it is really not pretty
Not that it really matters but if the beta was in 10 days (fingers crossed its this weekend) you could stay up the entire time without physiological damage. Youd have strange thoughts at times, delusions, probably some hallucinations, decreased cognitive abilities which in turn can lead to forgetfulness but once you finally did sleep youd go back to being perfectly normal. I am NOT encouraging this, though, because while you are loopy from sleep deprivation you might end up doing something crazy.....like deciding your a Norn and running around pretending to be a bear.
If anyones interested, though, this is the wiki for the longest extensively documented case of sleep deprivation where he went for 264 hours (11 days) without sleep (or microsleep).
Lovely but getting very annoyed here. Bought the game april 10th, a digital deluxe edition from the Guild Wars 2 site directly, got the code and made a registration but nothing since then. No possible way to log into any sort of account, no info still about this upcoming beta weekend and no dowmload link for the game client. Very upset indeed.

Our first Beta Weekend Event will be at the end of this month. We have not announced a specific date yet. ~RB2 #GuildWars2
I dont want to burst anyones bubble, and I know ANET has said there will be one beta per weekend, but do not get your hopes up for a beta this month. ANET, or any dev company, can say one thing and do something completely different. They are bound by NOTHING, no law or contract to give us a beta this month. The Pre purchase simply garuntee's entry into all beta events, it does not garuntee a beta event this month. So please calm. down.
Given the recent squabbles between NCSoft and BHS, an interesting business move would be to have a beta this weekend during Teras OBT, or next weekend during Teras launch. This has been discussed on the forums so far, nothing new. However, it could also implode on NSoft. What if players decide to forgo GW2 beta, and play Tera? That behavior could send a ripple through the mmo community, and possibly have a negative effect on players that are on the fence between GW2 and Tera.
Again, just because they have said there will be a beta every weekend does not mean they NEED to give us a beta weekend. It does not mean that since there is no client donwload available yet, that there wont be one this weekend so that there MUST 100% absolutely must be a beta next weekend.
This is not to say, that I am anxiously awaiting a beta invite myself, that I pre purchased the game, and I am more stoked for Gw2 than I am Tera. If a beta happens this week or next, I'll be at the front of the line trying to log in.
I just dont think Tera is playing that big of a part in GW's beta release schedule. It's an absolutely different audience. IF I'm NCSOft and I"ve read the reviews, I'm pretty confident about my product bversus theres. I've read some early TEra reviews, outside of my own opinion, they don't seem all that favorable.
I think if its this month I cant figure out which week it will be. I thought this weekend, simply cause it's a big GW 1 weekend, thier anniversary on the last weekend. But, this late in the week, I don't see it. I guess they are doing it the last weekend, but now I"m curious what their plans are for GW1 anniversary. Would they have celebration stuff in GW 2? Will we get a hint at what evnts will be like? (probably would give thme a decent chance to test things out )
Then agian, I can also see it happening may 5th, seeing as the week stil lbegin in April.
Here is my take. What I am about to say has been said countless times by other posters, but I will say it anyway.
Yes. The meaning of beta has changed. Yes, it is true that it's a lot of stress testing now. The reason is of course that gamers like to run their mouth online and make conclusions. We've seen it countless times. Sometimes it's for good reason too.
The eternal back-and-forth is always. "I don't like this game because of something in the beta". "It's a beta, they will fix it before launch". We all know that some things don't get changed before a launch while others will.
This is the main cause why Beta have turned into a promotion. Because most people are egocentric and want to help themselves figuring out if the game is worth their time. Maybe human beings are born selfish, maybe many gamers have simply felt ripped off by broken promises and poor launch products.
MMORPG gamers have had to endure a lot of things in a post-MMO world. It used to mean (before WoW) that if you had launched a MMO that merely worked at launch, it was a success. Because the game could grow. Before World of Warcraft, most MMOs had bad reviews because it was a staple.
Fast forward 10 years, and 2 million subscribers in the first 3 months and lots of 9/10 reviews and awards and a smooth launch and a relatively bug free game, is considered a failure.
So GW2 betas, how do they work?
Well I'll tell you insane clown posse - GW2 can not have a poor beta. Think about it. 2 of the 5 races are not in there yet. We saw tons of issues. There seems to be missing a lot of content. Think about the fact that so much of the game we've seen over the last 5 years have been from the same part of the world. So much Kryta and Ascalon. And the starting zones for Norn. We've only seen one dungeon.
TB mentioned quickly repeating dynamic events. Lots of talk of performance problems and lag spikes. Optimization is still a go. To launch a beta with bad optimization and create a bad word-of-mouth about holding off with buying the game until they solve issues x and y.
That's bad business. Anet has a product that all of you addict fiends want. They are the supplier. if they say jump, you say "how high". Thats the end of it. you gave them money for a privllage. nothing else was in the argreement. Your not getting anything you were not promised.
They are creating hype and anticipation. We're nearing the end. hopefully the next beta will be a significant new build. Who knows what new stuff will be in there? there should be new stuff. after all, the tons of beta videos have covered so much in the game already. we need new stuff to test. so giving them time to making a great new build is most important.
You saw what happened to TOR. You need the end game. its no good that they cave into peer pressure from impatient nerds now and release without the stable WvW, the optimization, all the dungeons at lvl 80, a fleshed out personal story, well tweaked dynamic events, and a cash shop that is fair for everyone.
GW2 is in here for the long haul. if they get it right, GW2 could have a long succesful life. It could last ten years. so give them the time to get it right. give them the time to let it get those rave reviews and that word of mouth that will zerg it into the hall of fame of online video games.
I just pre-ordered TERA. Open beta tomorrow for pre-orders and launch on may 1th. Diablo 3 on may 15 and max payne on june 1. im so lucky im a pc gamer! patience younglings. GW2 will come, but everything that is worth waiting for takes time. thats just how long it is. they need to lay low, they need be quiet, they need to take in all feedback and revise classes, balance, traits, art etc. Its in such a far state that they wont do a duke nukem forever and hold it for almost forever.
if they could hold it for 2-4 months more. that would be ideal. thats enough to make serious improvements. that would be one hell of a crunch mode for all the game systems. only if it wouldnt kill the developers first from exhaustion. i bet lots of them work overtime in the crunch period. the last period before going gold. and after as the game prepares its launch.
"Good news!First Beta Weekend Event will be from April 27-29. We will let you know once the client is ready for download.
We'll have a blog post with details about what and when you can play later today or tomorrow. If you haven't already: pre-purchase to participate! https://buy.guildwars2.com/ ~RB2"

Finally had my CE code delivered. I'm sleeping well now. Should be nicely rested for the beta weekend marathon.
