It's all about evolution. The Naga was the only clear improvement over the 518 by making it customizeable. The RAT improves on the Naga in terms of customization and durability.

About DPI, if your mouse has too high of DPI, you should be able to adjust it through buttons or software. The manual is your friend.

The RATs are ugly as butt, though.

razer Naga Epic and Blackwidow Ultimate.  Had the keybord for a few years now, happy. The mouse, mostly happy.  Thinking about getting the Blackwidow Stealth so ventrilo will get off my back about what I consider to be music to the ears *tap*tip*tap*tap*

MX518 is an amazing mouse. I've had that mouse for an extremely long time, since I used to play vanilla wow. It still works perfectly fine. It's help up the test of time, and LOTS of abuse.

However recently I decided I wanted to upgrade, so I grabbed a Razer Naga. Damn this mouse is $%&$ awesome. I've had it for over a year now and it still feels like it did on the first day. It's super sensitive (by choice) which is nice. The buttons all work perfectly, and it's not unrealistic to use them all once you get used to it. I'd suggest either mouse.

    Love my Naga MMO mouse.

That + steel series 9HD gaming surface (mouse pad) = win

The perific mouse is the fastest and most versitile.

You can use it as a regular mouse, steer it with you thumb or both at the same time to get insane speed when needed. You also have it in one hand (pistol grip) or both hands.

But right now I use a Logitech trackman, it is a lot faster and have better precision than regular mice.

That is a complete matter of opinion. Each person would have a different reason they like one mouse over another.

I just use a 5 button mouse for PvP games so I can move and vent with the mouse in PvP.

Got the Naga, waste of money, all those buttons are not made for a mans hand.

Im sure hes not trolling :D

Back in the old quake days, in our clan there was a guy named "dazed and confused" he had one hand to play games with and used the old ms track ball mouse and kicked everyones ass quite fine....

Of all the mices I've owned the one I like the most is hands down the Roccat Kone+. Not only does it have a lovely design but for someone with a little bigger hands it's wonderful.

So what is the best gaming mouse out there?  which one's do all of you prefer?

Also, I'm on a budget, so please keep your suggestions on gaming mouses under 150 dollars, preferably under 100 dollars though.

im somewhat passionate about the subject after being let down by Razer mice (their mechanical keyboard is awesome though). Razer mice are not build to last. theyre cheaply made. I bought the Deathadder last year, and after 3 months of moderate use, the scroll wheel stopped working. i was looking into buying the Naga, but read from many people that it breaks down after about a year of use or less.

the Logitech G9x is by far one of the best mice on the market. check out the stellar user reviews. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104261

you can adjust the weight, DPI and covers. it has 9 programmable buttons (the wheel bends left and right efforlessly), and feels amazing in the hand. based on all the Newegg reviews, it has lasted people 2+ years.

I cannot agree with this post enough.

I miss my g9x. It did not have as many buttons as my razer epic naga but it was built better quality and lasted pretty damn long.

My razer epic naga wireless stopped working in wireless mode after only 4 months. Don't get me wrong it is a great mouse, but built cheap. And it did not feel as good as the g9x

I've been testing a few different models as of late. I don't think you can go wrong with a Logitech MX518 or as it's now known, the G400. The G500 is nice but it is slightly larger and I find it difficult to pick up, despite not having any extra weights added. I have large hands and long fingers so I found that surprising. It also has a sandpaper-ey texture on the sides to provide more grip, which I didn't care for, but each to his or her own.
Like otheres have said, the G9 is a great mouse, but it is a shorter form factor designed for claw grip users. if you palm the mouse you may not like it.

I'm currently playing with a Razer Deathadder Black edition. It's lightweight, has a fantastic sensor, and feels good as a palm-grip mouse. The DA B.E. also has a rubberized texture on the sides, compared to the regular DA where the sides are a simple plastic. The Death Adder is a great no- frills mouse. I prefer the button click and scroll wheel action one the Razers to the Logitech mice, even though I find the Logitech mice a little more comfortable in the hand. For playing MMO's though, I would definitely check out the Naga models for the extra buttons.

You might want to take a look at the TT (Thermaltake) eSports Black mouse and it's brother the Black Element, which is marketed towards the MMO and RTS gamer.

My previous mouse was the Coolermaster Storm Sentinel, and like another poster mentioned, it's a nice feeling mouse (especially if you have large hands), but the sensor on mine has also been flakey and unreliable.

Ahh...well, my small hands hit the buttons pretty solidly.

Completely depends on the context of the statement.

Thanks to everybody who posted their suggestions.  This thread really exploded, I had no idea I would get this many suggestions!

But I've narrowed it down to the Naga, and the Logitech G700 from everybody's posts.  The cyborg mouses look really ridiculous, but if I find one in Best Buy I might check it out.

I'm leaning more towards the G700 because there are far less complaints with durability with that one compared to the Naga.

It looks cheap.  It feels cheap.  The price tag says it is cheap.

But it works.  Exactly right.  Every single time.  For about 2.7 years now.  I've used it enough that most of the paint has worn off, but it still works as well as it did when new.  It's lightweight (which I prefer) and comfortable to use, too.  My only complaint is that I'd prefer a little less friction on the scroll wheel.

If all you want is a pointer, two buttons, and a scroll wheel that work exactly right, you don't need to pay a lot for it.  If you want a zillion buttons on the mouse, then it gets more expensive.  Though if you want a zillion buttons, you might want to look into getting a keyboard.

    I've got the Logitech G600 ranked #1 here http://toptengamer.hubpages.com/hub/top-mmo-mouse . It's a great mouse and the price isn't bad

I've tried many multi-button programable mice over the years and for me, the buttons need to be separated and distinct enough. The Naga, Logitech 600 or similar don't work for me since I find it too easy to press the wrong key especially when I'm reacting quickly.

I've been using the Mad Catz MMO7 for a couple of years and have used it with several MMOs with great success. It's not everyone's cup of tea and it is significantly more expensive than competing models but it does what I want it to do--have 10 commands or so readily available with my right hand--with no fuss and no mistakes..

The only other one I would consider is the Logitech 700 which is ~ $30 -50 less (depending on sales) and also has distinct buttons.

Maybe someone with better dexterity than mine could use the types with multiple similar thumb buttons but I can't.

G700 all the way. With Logitech software every button is programmable. That's 13 buttons counting the mouse wheel and lmb/rmb. You can set up per game profiles also, with adjustable dpi. I think the G710 is wired/wireless also. Fits my hand perfectly and is made of sturdy material. Had a RAZR lochesis had problems with it for years, finally said enough is enough.

I propose we should let this thread die because most of the messages are more than 2 years old.

I'm still using a RAT 7. It has a couple issues, but they mainly have to do with my glass mouse pad and the sensor on the RAT. The mouse wheel on the RAT 7 is really light which is done on purpose for quick weapon selection in games. However, I do a lot of 3D work where I use the mouse wheel and button a lot. A stiff mouse wheel is much more important in these applications, because sometimes you don't want to zoom in when you just want to press the middle mouse button.
The other issues I have with the RAT 7 are not really seen in the MMO 7. On the left side of the mouse is a screw right where the base of your thumb sits which is kind of annoying.  The screw is removed in the MMO 7. The thumb buttons are also really stiff making me not use them often and the back one is a bit more difficult to press. I am pretty sure that was also address in the MMO 7. The RAT 7 also attracts the sweat off my fingers like a magnet due to its coating, but its relatively easy to wipe off every now and then. The MMO7 has a different coating.

Aside from these issue the RAT does what it says it does. My next mouse probably won't be from Mad Catz, but it was a decent mouse.

I've also used 2 generations of the Logitech G5. Simple mouse, does exactly what you want.
