Maple Story is a F2P game. Guild Wars 2 is not. The major difference is that F2P games make all of their money from microtransactions. GW2 makes almost all of it's money from box sales.
That's what i find ironic, people are defending a f2p game that is charging them 60 bucks for a box.
Can any sense be found in the above statement?

I dont want to feed this neverending story (the movie? Oo) but i cant limit KingGators comment to a "accept" or "dont accept" poll...i mean...the comment itself is lacking any sense, being a fanboi or not (wich i am btw and with very good reasons to be so) but seems to me that if you want to give an opinion about something, you should at the least do some minimum research about it, wich sadly is not your case.
Most cases? Can you give us even ONE case, where the CS went from cosmetic to P2W?
As for people wanting to trust Anet, why do you have a problem with that? Do you have some kind of investment to protect?
If you count F2P games: Maplestory went from purely cosmetic to P2W with the inclusion of the lottery/gamble-for-items system called Gachapon. While it had no PvP at the time, people competed a lot about who had best gear. Through Gachapon, item-mallers gained insane amounts of buying-power which they used to get very powerful.
However, as long as GW2 keeps it easy for people to catch with item-mallers (which is why I am concerned about how quickly guilds will be able to grind for buffs), it won't be P2W PvP nor PvE stat/skill/gear-wise.

Uninformed troll is uninformed.
Which is a nice counter to blind fan boi being fan boi. And you can't say I am uninformed, i saw the same cash shop that was leaked that everyone else saw, its very similar to how cash shops on f2p games typically start out, and then they expand from there. You can trust a-net all you want, but DO NOT make the mistake of trusting ncsoft.

i actually think you should prepurchase dude to get into a beta and try the game out, clearly you have missed the countless videos of hours of gameplay or dev interviews or experience reviews, but i can tell u one thing, this is so far more polished and feature rich then half the trash that is out there that is currently pay to play... but again.. my opinion and i've played them all

I don't think that is the major difference of importance when it comes to item mall policy. Maplestory was doing just fine without becoming PvE-P2W, much like GW2 would have done just fine if they had kept a GW1 item mall.
Greed is though a powerful motivator and a consequence of that was the Gachapon in Maplestory as well as the gems-gold trade system in GW2.
It is though good that GW2 took a step back when they removed the item-mall megaphones after complaints. However, the danger is far from over, specially given the reputation of the owners NCsoft. I don't think NCsoft would even think twice about implementing a PvP- or PvE-P2W in Guild Wars 2 if they thought it netted them more money. I hope the reason they haven't done so yet is because of some strong people in Arenanet or at least some strong contract clauses.
The people that need to watch out the most, are the fans that intend to make GW2 their new MMORPG home for many months. The people who just intend to play for 1 month are safer.
Also keep an eye on any key figure leaving or switching positions within Arenanet or NCSoft as well as their economical reports. The moment NCSoft takes a blow, the investors will start asking questions and put pressure on NCSoft to do something about Arenanet. When that happens, fans need to be ready to "convince" NCSoft that their proposed changes to the item mall would really kill the game and its revenue.

not exactly true, starting from the first prepurchase beta weekend, the NDA will be completely removed.. basically saying heres out game do what you want with it and i'd almost bet there will be full disclosure on the current state of the cash shop... guild wars 1 managed without a pay to win cash shop, guild wars 2 will also manage, if they dont it'll be a shame, but that wont be for a while

Absolutely not, but the people who take it personally whenever anyone dares be raise the spectre of critical issues with this game are deffinitely fan bois, they have a lot more emotionally invested in this than the rest of us. Again, i want it to be good and not be p2w, I want to be wrong, who doesn't want an awesome game to play? Just knowing what I know of games, corporations and the world leads me to think otherwise. I could be wrong, I hope I'm wrong...........
But you didn't raise any Critical issues with GW2, all you stated is you shouldn't prepurchase without having the actual game being available. And people are telling you that its okay, they want to , but you keep saying you shouldn't, but they keep replying that its okay, they trust Anet, but you keep saying its not okay to trust Anet, and they tell you that its okay for you to not trust Anet, but then you disagree that its not okay for you to not trust Anet, then I got lost in your point.
You don't know if its gonna be P2W you are hoping its not, we are saying that we trust Anet for making it not P2W so we pre purchased, yet you are still having an argument.
Are you having an internal Argument with yourself or are you really Arguing with us. Because we already trusted ANet and pre purchased. You don't have to, all you have to do is wait till the Beta Weekends for future information.

My only thing with what you have said is calling it another korean game p2w game. Even if it turns out to be P2W adding the Korean part in there is simply false. Even never having played it just watching the video's will tell you that its no where close to a Korean grinder. The only way you could say that is if you have either never played a Korean Grinder (and I have, plenty of them and I enjoy them to an extent) or just smiply want to talk smack about GW2 without any real knowledge of the game.
I dont take issue with anyone raising legitimate complaints about the game. Thats why I'll gladly defend 99.9% of what Dark Pony says about it. I dont really agree with him but he hasnt once, to my knowledge tried throwing dung just to see if it sticks.

It isn't that they have, it's based off other games (IMO) Yes a cash shop is a cash shop, but the level of that success depends on a few things, some of which, player population, to get that you make a damn good game, 2nd is you have to make the things in the CS make it worth your money, often causing the game to be P2W.
This is where i see ANet makes a change in the CS.
Most other F2P games use that CS as their primary source of income. GW2 is relying on box sales, i can't find the link but they said a sub based model is pretty much a rip off. And no one should beable to pay for an advantage. So they don't need to make the items in the CS be that good to were a majority of the players feel the need to buy the stuff just in order to be on a level playing field.
GW2 doesn't offer that stuff, and the argument (not saying you in general) that, "we haven't seen everything, there could be mroe in the CS that what wasn't leaked" is a line of crap that people pull from their butt, shake it off, and throw it into a thread. What GW2 offers is stuff to make gaming easier, and less of a task. I HATE running and selling things in town every 30 minutes to an hour. So bag slots might be in my favor. I don't care about being all pretty and fancy (unless it's my tank class and he looks like a beast). So Payed for armor doesn't make sense in my eyes, others like that kinda thing, to each their own.
I know all this being said is truely just speculation, i get that. But from where i get my facts is a reliable company that made a damn good game that plenty of people enjoyed (GW1), and a company that has given out TONS of information on their game,(maybe they haven't shown us the asura or sylvari yet because they want it to be a surprise, or maybe it isn't finished, more speculation). Not trying to create a huge debate either Just saying why i think ANet differs itself from most other companies out there.

This is my biggest fear. As true to their word as ANet wants to be, NCSoft will think nothing of wrecking that trust for instant profits. And those instant profits are those that fly in the face of B2P. since they already got that money.

If the game is really, really good (talking excellent)...with a player base comparable to WOW then they would be crazy to change the dynamic and have players leave in droves....they best insurance for them is to keep the game excellent...
They have a real chance with GW2 to make a good name for themselves and shine-up the NCSOFT image.

Guild Wars 2 is perfect in everyway.
Actually its not but to me thats besides the point, GW2 offers me the most complete set of ingame functions i have wanted in a long time from an MMO, because of that reason i have been a fan of the game since the first press BWE.
I was not a fan before that because i did not have the information i did after that and thats what hooked me.
No MMO is ever complete, when you find it you should decide to leave it because if it is ever complete then you have a finite amount of play in that game.

Just because no fan has said the game will be perfect, it doesn't mean that they are not those that get upset when people point out flaws with the game. There are several examples of people who get annoyed by certain complaints or suggestions that they start ridiculing those posters or telling them to just give up on GW2 and not play it. Those are rabid responses, which ought not to be tolerated.

Not trying to create a huge debate either Just saying why i think ANet differs itself from most other companies out there.
it was on twitter, the asura and sylvari starter areas are still under development, close to completetion sounded like they were just working out bugs and adding a bit of polish too it... bit off topic, but they have been open about why they havent included them in press / beta events so far and they do plan on adding them into beta tests at a suitable time in the future... if they dont, that is their porogative.. or maybe that would mean asura and sylvari are actually pay to win -_-
Maple Story is a F2P game. Guild Wars 2 is not. The major difference is that F2P games make all of their money from microtransactions. GW2 makes almost all of it's money from box sales.
This is my biggest fear. As true to their word as ANet wants to be, NCSoft will think nothing of wrecking that trust for instant profits. And those instant profits are those that fly in the face of B2P. since they already got that money.
you ever stop and think if ncsoft tried to do that arenanet might take the moral high ground and sever ties before having there game destroyed... to be honest the guys at arenanet have a whole lot more invested in this game then the cash from ncsoft... or your feelings towards the future of the game... it's been there 5 years of hard work, countless sleepless nights up testing the game, working out bugs, tweaking features, trolling forums etc... making sure this game can live up to the dream they had... there is PLENTY of publishers out there and i'm sure any one of them would be more then happy to snap up arenanet and with that in mind.. contractual obligations only go so far when $$$$ are concerned
Actually the irony is that you can't find posts where the so-called fanboys say they game is perfect, but game bashing troll posts about over zealous blind fanboy's are a dime a dozen.
To prove a point, I bet you can't find a fanboy post were they say the game is perfect.
Yet you can find the others. Here is an example.
Plenty, but fanbois become so angry when it is suggested that all may not be perfect with this game, its bizzarre really almost like religious fervor, that they go into convulsions."
Even if it's a GW2 is a P2W CS thread? Cause we've had like 15 of those this month, so i do think those posters should get scrutinized
Yes, if you think the topic has been discussed enough already, you report the posts and then leave it at that. The moderators around here have been closing topics everyday that they deem to be repetitive.
I don't consider myself an Fanboi, but the only reason I am here is because of the Non-Trinity , the Semi-action Combat, Dodge key, Dynamic Quests that pops when I am near, oh and the separate loot system, downscale system.
Everything else, i have no concerns for, as long as those that I listed is in the game, which i know it is due to the Press Beta Videos and actual Developer Commentary and Interview and Gameplay playthroughs.
Will Cash shop bother me, in GW2 no, in other games, yes
Why won't Cash Shop bother me, because regardless of how many Millionaires play GW2, if you are all in the same server, Congrats, keep threwing cash to ANET, I will be happy to never see you in a W v W v W
Because if it really matters, eventually you will be matched against others Servers that also have tons of Millionaires.
And since PVE is CO-OP mode, if you have every single thing available to be bought, but I still get my own LOOT and my own Mining Points. Do you really affect me in any way ??
Does you having money makes you dodge better, if you play 40 hours and I play 20 hours does it really matters.
If you are level 80 and I am level 30 , in structure PVP i am also level 80 , in PVE, you will be downscaled to 30ish so the mobs can still kill you.
So where is this Pay To Win come from......
How does you having more money than me destroy my Gameplay in any way in GW2
Life is a Maze, so make sure you bring your GPS incase you get lost in it.

When you start to play a new mmo, and if you are enjoying the experience, you cant help but to remember something you loved about another mmorpg that would fit perfectly in this new game. We all played other mmorpgs, some we hate, some we love, but and unless the game is pure trash, we can always find good things in all those games.
Ofc many of us, tired of playing used up formulas (or not...omg) are looking for something fresh. Proof of that statment is that "other" game that successfully managed to combine the best elements of others releases into this massive gorgeous and immersive world, but when i look into the numbers of that game they dont reflect that so called desire of having a classic format mmorpg where people can bunch up and play.
If you are not currently immersed in EvE or AION for PvP goodness, or you still stuck in the WoW wormhole (or chokehole), then you are searching for the next thing, and well, GW2 is it.
Will GW2 be great? I dont know. Need to play it 1st....but my money is on that game..if not there, where else?
Maple Story is a F2P game. Guild Wars 2 is not. The major difference is that F2P games make all of their money from microtransactions. GW2 makes almost all of it's money from box sales.
Think of it as buying a singleplayer game which offers DLC. Which makes the developer the most money, the game or the DLC?
I really hate to argue on this topic as I know wher eit almost invariably ends, but even still, There are so many assumptions in your statement.
"Maple Story is a F2P game. Guild Wars 2 is not." A Cash Shop is a Cash Shop The differnce between them is not yet known.
"The major difference is that F2P games make all of their money from microtransactions. GW2 makes almost all of it's money from box sales." How can you really say that? ANet is putting in a Cash Shop to make money . We don't even know what will be in it until the game goes live?
"Think of it as buying a singleplayer game which offers DLC. Which makes the developer the most money, the game or the DLC." Where has ANet released information describing their revenue model in this way?
The difference is in how the games are set up. F2P games are generally designed with various restrictions which can be mitigated with a cash shop purchase. Either a large XP grind, it inability to complete content due to a lack of a certain item or not being able to stay competitive in PvP or PvE without something from the cash shop.
GW2 does not have any of those restrictions. The cash shop is purely optional. ANet had this model since 2006, when they added the purely optional cash shop to GW1.
Most cases? Can you give us even ONE case, where the CS went from cosmetic to P2W?
As for people wanting to trust Anet, why do you have a problem with that? Do you have some kind of investment to protect?

That's what i find ironic, people are defending a f2p game that is charging them 60 bucks for a box.
Can any sense be found in the above statement?
Plenty, but fanbois become so angry when it is suggested that all may not be perfect with this game, its bizzarre really almost like religious fervor, that they go into convulsions.
So everyone who disagrees with you is a fanboi?
Absolutely not, but the people who take it personally whenever anyone dares be raise the spectre of critical issues with this game are deffinitely fan bois, they have a lot more emotionally invested in this than the rest of us. Again, i want it to be good and not be p2w, I want to be wrong, who doesn't want an awesome game to play? Just knowing what I know of games, corporations and the world leads me to think otherwise. I could be wrong, I hope I'm wrong...........
Criticism has to be based on reality. The claims you have made are not. That is why people don't take you seriously.
Comments
I dont want to feed this neverending story (the movie? Oo) but i cant limit KingGators comment to a "accept" or "dont accept" poll...i mean...the comment itself is lacking any sense, being a fanboi or not (wich i am btw and with very good reasons to be so) but seems to me that if you want to give an opinion about something, you should at the least do some minimum research about it, wich sadly is not your case.
I still don't understand why trollboi's care.
i actually think you should prepurchase dude to get into a beta and try the game out, clearly you have missed the countless videos of hours of gameplay or dev interviews or experience reviews, but i can tell u one thing, this is so far more polished and feature rich then half the trash that is out there that is currently pay to play... but again.. my opinion and i've played them all
I don't think that is the major difference of importance when it comes to item mall policy. Maplestory was doing just fine without becoming PvE-P2W, much like GW2 would have done just fine if they had kept a GW1 item mall.

not exactly true, starting from the first prepurchase beta weekend, the NDA will be completely removed.. basically saying heres out game do what you want with it and i'd almost bet there will be full disclosure on the current state of the cash shop... guild wars 1 managed without a pay to win cash shop, guild wars 2 will also manage, if they dont it'll be a shame, but that wont be for a while
But you didn't raise any Critical issues with GW2, all you stated is you shouldn't prepurchase without having the actual game being available.
Life is a Maze, so make sure you bring your GPS incase you get lost in it.
No one says it's perfect, they just argue mindlessly against every criticism. So if it's not perfect, what's wrong with it? NOTHING!!!!
Who doesn't want a winner?
Guild Wars 2 is perfect in everyway.
Actually its not but to me thats besides the point, GW2 offers me the most complete set of ingame functions i have wanted in a long time from an MMO, because of that reason i have been a fan of the game since the first press BWE.
