I didn't read his article, but to be honest with you all I don't like Tera at all. I don't "hate" it, I just think it's far beyond boring. If I ran a gaming website, I would have an article up about not liking the game... What's the big deal if this guy writes a negative article for a game he doesn't like?

If you played the game a decent length of time and did you research than no there is nothing wrong with that. Infact it won't be a negative article it would contain a lot of constructive critisim because you put in the time and effort to really try out a game. Anyone who runs any kind of information related bussine or organization or site or etc should know that facts and experience to back up whatever you publish. If you barely tested something out and decide you know the entire thing that you look completely unprofessional and you loss all credibility. You don't see movie critics watch only first 15mins of movie and start writing about it. You don't see new journalist writing on a subject you spend 1hr researching one. Game review/journalism is the same, if your not going to spend the time to do the work and research keep your mouth shut. They aren't random people on the forum, we can post whatever the fck we want true or false because we aren't professionals or do we try to sell ourself as one (well some people do) but this people are and if they aren't going to act professionally than whatever they say hold no value

You're kidding yourself if you think the same reviews, er, opinion pieces would happen if TERA estimated those numbers or they were getting $ from EME. If Hello Kitty Island Adventure was releasing an expansion that estimated millions of players over here you can bet Gary would be smiling on camera about how it'll be raining pink next month lol.
They have nothing to lose by playing the game for a few hours and stating what they did. In the end I think it is swtor all over again since before that game released it was easy to see how superior the questing was...
don't you be bashing hello kitty you know that shit the most hardcore game out there after pong. =P

Okay maybe it is not the best game but clearly it is not the worst. At this site they just take turns to defame it.
It is because the guy in charge, Gary Gannon, hasn't liked TERA from the beginning.
Gary Gannon had said, early on months ago, that he though TERA wouldn't have more than 15k subscribers at its peak. The then later said that he hadn't heard much about the game and didn't know anything about it. But ever since he has been trying to justify his original impression of the game.
Second, the idiot actually thinks he coined the term tera-ble. He didn't people on this site had been using it to troll the game months, possibly as much as a year or more earlier. So he fancies himself somehow to be the leading prophet of TERA's doom but in reallity he is not even original for a troll. He is a half rate troll.
The only thing that Gary has done well with this show is to have Mike B (aka Fony) as a regular on it. Gary is a self important, arrogant idiot that does little more than parrot what he hears others say and he goes into reviews with preformed opinions and spends the rest of his time trying to justify them.
All that said, I think this particular clip is pretty decent. Fair enough, this is one person's view of TERA and it is obvious that he is not into the action combat thing. Which means I can understand that the game fell flat for him. TERA is solidly based on its action combat and if you are not into it then you wont ever get into TERA. TERA also has its political system but that is, at best, a secondary draw. They are also borrowing good features from other games like the Nexus stuff and server vs server eventually. But the only thing that makes it largely different than anything else out there is the action combat so you either get into it for that or you don't.
Maybe the only problem I have where their assesment is that they underplayed what the action combat can mean for those who do like it. It is not a small difference in the game. It goes to the very core of how they game plays. It is in your face all the time. And I think it is important to recognise that if you do enjoy how the combat plays then this game could make all the difference. Take the questing they mentioned. Yeah, it is very standard, kill 10 x, bring back 12 y and so on. Not all of it but much of it. And that could be very disappointing if you come at it from an expectation that MMO are just about how questing is done. But that is really only a part of MMOs. In TERA I found myself enjoying doing the very simple kill 10 rats quests simply because the combat itself was fun. it wasn't simply a chore to be completed but the fun of the game was to be found in the hunting itself. So I wasn't bothered being asked to kill a few more funky tree dudes. But if that combat is not fun for you then yeah, pretty boring stuff.
So I remain squarely in the camp that says, try it out. see if you enjoy how it plays. You may just like it. But over all TERA will be somewhat limited because it depends on appealing to those who like the combat. I think it will be a solid choice for those who prefer an action MMO. But action MMOs will probably only be a smaller slice of the whole market, much like how hardcore ffa pvp are a niche portion of the market, but a solid one that is not going away.
I agree, maybe why it just felt so... wrong. I mean i'm all for voicing your opinon but the way iw as presented just left bad taste in my mouth. Like you said he didn't like it and felt like he was forcing that on other by downplaying the game. Same can be side about GW2 really, if some one doesn't really like DE or no progression it would pretty much look something like this. And you get way more people flaming that guy for not liking the main feature of a game.
People keep saying that Gamebreaker has a right to their opinions about a game. But that's not true. Gamebreaker is a major site of MMO information, so they need to do their jobs and stick to the FACTS. Opinions are for forums, not paid journalists.
I'm sorry that they don't like Tera but the main broadcaster admitted himself he didn't play the game past the starter zone. Also they were accusing Tera of missing features like voice acting which is false. There is at least 4 fully animated, voice acted cutscenes between level 1-11 that they completely ignored.
The only thing game breaker did right was that they openly admitted they barely invested any time in the game past the first couple of hours, and so their "professional journalist analysis" of the game is null any void to anybody with common sense.
And that's it.
Since Gamebreaker is supposed to be a "major site of MMO information" they are not entitled to have an opinion.
Even if they hate the game they have to like it. They are "paid journalists"! so they cannot have opinions or the fans will get hurt and will whine.
Hypocrisy
In case you didn't notice the "main broadcaster" (gary) is not the author of the article.
And even thought i will play Tera i think it's a very good article and he made very good points about the game. Honestly... he is right!
The guy didn't like it and stated his opinion. Deal with it.
You know... "paid journalists" can say pretty much whatever they want. If you don't like it nobody is coercing you into watching their show.

Nothing. In fact they will just get the tera community nd the enmasse guys pissed off. Not a smart marketing move if you ask me. They should have been pussies like the others and said they loved the game and are excited about it.

to shase people away from Tera?, Tera has been getting constant bashing and trolling from day one. simply because the game was made by Koreans .
there is plenty of gullible people who believe anything you tell them, as long you are in front of a camera. tell them you are Jesus who came to rescue them, and need their Credit cards info to end with world famine, and they will give you all their live savings too.
This makes no sense. They are not gonna have an advantage from it ... on the contrary.

The main thing is that Gamebreaker benefits from publicly bashing Tera, and sensationalism gets them views. GW2 is an extremely popular game and Tera is not, so openly bashing Tera makes them look good for their fanbase. With viewers you get advertisers which pays their salaries. I'm sure if EME greased their pockets a little bit they will be singing a different tune. Lastly they really want to please NCSoft a company that openly hates Tera so they can get into GW2's closed beta. Advertising and closed beta invites to a popular game is really like gold for any gaming journalist blogger/site. If Gamebreaker actually gave an honest unbiased opinion on the game, they wouldn't get as many hits and threads like this incidentally advertising their site more.
Yes unsupported conspiracies. And they killed Kennedy too.

Content scaling wokes double edged but some people like the progression. Also this means the entire game is end game and people will get bored of it.
Even pvp that takes little skills beside button mashing from what i seen.
Not the first nor the last to have WvW or server vs server
Again not the first game not have designated classes and personally i hate it because that means you can't speicalize. Everyone does pretty much the same damn thing, so mean no matter what class you play its pretty much the same.
Tera pvp in itself just pvp like just duels and DM is head and shoulders above pvp in all other games (beside EvE but thats not really mmorpg) The amount of skill and pratice required is rediculious compare to othe rmmorpgs. You can learn all the theorys you want but w/o pratice you still suck at it.
Sorry but he's right about GW2 breaking the mold. It' s sure very different from every other themeparks mmorpg out there. And that's his strength ..... and weakness. I guess it will do very well initially but in the end people just love the WOW formula. People don't like new things... especially in mmorpgs.
But you seems very missinformed about the GW2 features. DE is grinding? oh come on!
Sidekick is genius. Content scaling too.
And i guess you confused the two. Sidekick is the system that will delevel you in lower level areas so that every area is endgame are. Content scaling means the events will scale based on how many players are taking part in it.
WvWvW is huge.... the last one to have it like that was DAOC ... and it was 11 years ago. No wonder people are excited about it.
And he kills the Holy Trinity... which means some people will be happy not to have to wait for 50 minutes for the tank and healer but other will be unhappy (like you)
And another thing is that GW2 is skill based and not gear based like other mmorpgs. Again a strength and a weakness at the same time because people just LOVE to farm endgame gear for months.
So yes GW2 is VERY different and innovative but this doesn't make it automatically "better". Some people don't like innovations.
Thank God different players have different taste in mmorpg.
I don't know what you were trying to achieve from your post. The main host had openly admitted that he did not like Tera long before he had ever gotten a chance to play it, and everybody that did play it admitted that they didn't play for than a few hours. One of the co-hosts admitted that they Did Not Know Enough About The Game to Pass Judgement on it. But Gary did anyway. So what exactly are you blabbering about? Do you need a defintion of what professional journalism is? Hint: It's not getting paid to say whatever you want.
Please just stop embarrasing yourself.
Edit: I actually think that's the problem. A lot of people simply do know what the definition of professional journalism is, because everybody that openly defended Gamebreaker has gotten it wrong so far.
DE is more like grinding than questing, its like grinding but every now and than you get a exp bonus.

I see side kick working but honestly never was a issue for me. scaling wise i seen it done in other games before however it only incourage more soloing. Which is what GW2 seem to be aiming at casual solo game where you don't need to group to do anything because they just throw you in groups. Good and bad

From what i see GW2 kick skill in the knee and throw it out the window in to the ocean with 10 ton weight tied to it. Instant cast while casting a skill with cast time? And moving on top of that? However i'll wait till game come out and see how it works, but just from that isn't very encourging.
So yes GW2 is VERY different and innovative but this doesn't make it automatically "better". Some people don't like innovations.

Agreeed there however lot of GW2 fans don't seem to agree with you lol.
This whole Tera vs GW2 seems like BF3 vs MW3. The case with modren warfare is it is the same shit just marketed as new. Where as some things are the same in BF3 ( ones I expectually love ) and things that are completely new. I will probably try out GW2 open beta whenever and if they have one. But the way the hype is now it turns me off. Let the hipster mmorpg players spend their money on a cash shop actually spending more then 15$ a month on average then for a subscription.
I don't even remember hearing the name Arenanet being mentioned in terms of being "revoltionary." I have heard of them from the original GWs but in all honesty look what happens you have two communities some with people playing both but there will always be bashing. It just goes to show and prove how stupid the human race can be over arguing over a game. When in the big sceem of things it doesn't really matter. People arguing over it is like people arguing over which sports team is better which the players/devlopers making millions couldn't really give a shit about as long as they make their money.

That's not the same at all. The DE make the player feels that he is inside a breathing living world that's it's going on even without it. They have persistant consequences before resetting and they can branch. It's not like anything that was done before. Warhammer public quests and Rifts are jokes compared to the DE system from GW2.
I see side kick working but honestly never was a issue for me. scaling wise i seen it done in other games before however it only incourage more soloing. Sidekick does not encourage soloing. It's a completely different matter. Maybe you're talking about the de facto grouping. Which TERA copied in the recent rifts.
Expect Tera has it too and its 4 way ooooo, and i know more than DAOC has it, i'll look it up and come back to it
Tera doesn't have it. It's just promises for the far far future right now. 4 ways or 3 ways is the same... considering the need for more active servers with a 4 way battle it could even been worse if server merging are going to happen in the future. There is no info about what TERA will do in the future but right now GW2 has the best WvWvW around with an amazing sieges and supply system directly inspired by DAOC.
also devoid game of many strategy as everyone does everything. Again more aim toward causal gamer from what i'm seeing
Not really everyone does everything. Just the roles are more dynamic and change in between the party. It's sure is different.
From what i see GW2 kick skill in the knee and throw it out the window in to the ocean with 10 ton weight tied to it. Instant cast while casting a skill with cast time? And moving on top of that? However i'll wait till game come out and see how it works, but just from that isn't very encourging.
It definetely require skill. Only skill decide who is the winner in PVP since gear means nothing in Gw2. Again doing it differently. Instant casting and moving are good if you want a action combat. Again it's a taste matter: some people like the tab system, other like the rooting animation.
An interesting info is that GW2 had the rooting animations too but the developers decided to spend time and eliminate them completely to make the combat faster and more dynamic.
Agreeed there however lot of GW2 fans don't seem to agree with you lol.s
Well if innovation=better then Gw2 would have to steal every player from every themepark mmorpg out there.
It won't.
But it certainly an incredible innovation for the genre. The most innovative game we have seen in years and years.
But with innovation comes RISKS.
Especially making the game skill based and not gear based with the classic endgame gear grinding (like WOW and similar games : Tera too) is a huge gamble.
People love to grind for gear and to get the next powerful shiny item.

You are arguing about games and then at the end talk about how silly it is to argue about games.
No I was pointing out that there is way to much of it going on. Meaning some is alright but thread upon thread is really a lot of BSing geeks trying to put down the other.
Also do you think people will ever stop arguing over what sports/athlete is better. So if I am being hypocritical then I guess that makes the whole world in one way or another.

Aren't they the site that hates on Tera for dodging but loves GW2 for dodging?
It's one site out of millions. Stop giving them free advertisements in a forum for a game they hate so much ;p
Again, if you watch the video, they state that a large part of the game the guy isn't into..
The whole thing amounts to basically 'it's not necessarily a bad game, but it's not really for this one reviewer'. I really don't understand why you would get so angry about that. No game is for everyone. There's always going to be at least one reviewer who isn't going to like any given game, regardless of it's popularity. Hell even GW2 has one or two bad ones, and yet according to these forums it's the most overhyped thing ever created.
so simple to aswer your question OP. Gamebreaker crew played both Tera and GW2 and guess which they prefer. But if you enjoy your time in Tera you should keep playing it and have fun, tho I recommend you to try out GW2 if you can afford it since you just have to buy it once and no monthly fees you know.
One thing to bear in mind when you listen to postive and negative reviews of games that exist solely in the multiplayer context; most people who review games are notoriously and shamefully awful at them. It's never been a mystery to me why they review these kinds of games poorly on the whole, and often mediocre at best. I've always taken it as a reflection of the reviewer, as much as the game. This goes for any game, not just Tera.
Speaking as an older gamer, a lot of my generation aren't big on the whole action game thing. Some of my contemparies are worry about MMOs becoming a little too twitchy and more like FPS games, and a lot of them really dislike that idea. They are comfortable with tab targeting MMOs, and would rather see the genre expand to broaden the horizon of available game systems and presentation values(ie story), as opposed to ripping out the guts of the combat system. In short, they want a deeper game w/ new outlooks on gameplay... not a more actiony one.
The second reason Tera is getting hammered, is because of GW2. GW2 is doing the whole actiony combat thing, but they are also expanding on the gameplay in a lot of other ways. Tera is a one trick pony, much in the way SWTOR was with storyline. On top of that, it's not even subscription based, so Tera just seems like it's being one-upped in a pretty serious manner.
A third reason it's getting hammered is because a lot of older games have Diablo 3 on the brain, and they just aren't excited about an new MMo right now.
The game's NA release window is really bad. You've got people excited about the GW2 beta, you've got people excited about Diablo 3s release, and you've got a pretty solid game in Tera thats going to not get the credit it deserves because people are caught up in the wave of excitement for other games.

Nothing in Guild Wars 2 reflects "action combat" in the sense people are using it to describe Tera. GW2's combat functions in the very traditional sense, which is good for fans of that type of game. Personally, I would think any real MMO fan would hope that Tera and GW2 are both able to develop into legitimate and vetted titles, since that only means more options for us as gamers.
Being a slightly older gamer myself I can certainly understand the concern that you voice with MMO's becoming twitchy, but Tera is a far cry from being twitchy. The avoidance really relies more on solid knowledge of the creatures and successfully executing your own personal gameplan, so far as I have noticed in playing the game.
I'm not sure it would be fair to distinguish any MMO as inherently non-twitchy however. Personally, I played WoW from the time it was released until late in the Cataclysm expansion. During that time I existed primarily as a main tank for a guild that put up kills in the top 50 US pretty regularly. That's a far cry from the top 10 guilds in the world in terms of dedication, but the execution and comeptence in performing the fights is largely not so different. During that time, I rarely ever did any tab targeting barring playing a tanking class where you had to register attacks on creatures consecutively to be able to successfully cleave them further. Primarily, any and all competent high level tanking in WoW (as far as in fights that actually mattered) was done by individual selection with the cursor, or pre-determined targeting macros or special shift variations of common abilities. A lot of these scenarios were no more or less twitchy than Tera, which is to say that WoW (which is the golden standard of generic MMO gameplay) was no less twitchy than Tera, when it was being played competently.
I won't go into effort involved in executing top 10 world ranking DPS but the same logic applies, and probably more accurately even. I'm just more comfortable relating things to what I did more often. I do think that with the above being the reality of the WoW experience for a lot of the better players, it somewhat undermines the concern that Tera is ushering in some age of twitch-MMO's.
The combat-bar that Tera sets for common tasks like fighting creatures in group quests sets a bar that is roughly on par with normal mode raiding at times, which is lofty for a mundane task like questing, but really far below the threshold of reliable and comeptent gameplay. Without trying to sound too crass, I have to say that even being a slightly older gamer compared to some, I'm not comfortable playing games with people falling below that threshold of skill in the first place.
GW2's combat functions in the very traditional sense,
you can play it that way.
but you're gonna have a bad time!
GW2 combat is very similar to your run-of-the-mill MMORPG. Just add dodge to the mix.
Tera is completely different and bad/casual gamers are going to struggle with it. I've had my share of laughs for people not avoiding stuff or standing too close and getting hammered. Then fun part is that Tera actually has death penalty unlike the one in GW2 where you just instantly respawn COD style and run back in.
If Tera wasn't an asian game it would be madly popular but the release window is truly really bad because of D3(15th) and GW2 Hype.
I've been playing games for over 15 years and Tera is the first MMORPG I can actually put my skills in use. All the other MMORPGs are all about min/maxing in Tera I can affect the success of a combat by playing extremely well and even overcompensate the weak/bad players.
Tera might be a one trick pony (combat+BAMs) but I usually spend 90% of playing MMOs in COMBAT and to be honest everything else (crafting/quests/graphics/zones/classes...) are good or great in Tera. I don't see much negative in this game if you don't bother the "grindy" feel to the game and long levelling courve compared to western mmos.
I still haven't seen the endgame and how challenging/fun the dungeons are. The fact that there are 6-7 endgame dungeons and no instanced raiding ("rifts" open world raids) makes me wonder. Having classes that play/feel completely different make alts a lot more fun though.

Know what your talking about before posting.
GW2 combat is not even remotely close to other mmos. Tab targetting is not required at all, 99% of all skills are done on the move. PvP has meaning and progression. Tera you just kill to be killing on an unlevel playing field - gankathon.

GW2 death penalty is based around having money to repawn and also with deaths you accumulate gear damage that must be repaired.
Save yourself some money and just play Vindictus
If it was all that they would have more than 11 NA servers, half of those being light to empty primetime.
It's really moving how GW2 fans are so worried about Tera fans finances. Really guys you are so kind, but I think we can manage.
On a more seriouss note, you usually try to sound stinging and smart when you write a post, comparing Vindictus to Tera really makes you look more like a troll or worse.

They aren't random people on the forum, we can post whatever the fck we want true or false because we aren't professionals or do we try to sell ourself as one (well some people do) but this people are and if they aren't going to act professionally than whatever they say hold no value
don't you be bashing hello kitty you know that shit the most hardcore game out there after pong. =P
This makes no sense. They are not gonna have an advantage from it ... on the contrary.
Yes unsupported conspiracies. And they killed Kennedy too.
I find this post funny since it's just a big hypocritical statement.
How is it hypocritical? I dare one who actually knows the definition to point out the hypocrisy in this. So many people throw this word around without knowing the full meaning behind.
So if I am being hypocritical then I guess that makes the whole world in one way or another.
the world is hypocritical, the US just most hypocrital =X
Aren't they the site that hates on Tera for dodging but loves GW2 for dodging?
It's one site out of millions. Stop giving them free advertisements in a forum for a game they hate so much ;p

Wow guys...
Hell even GW2 has one or two bad ones, and yet according to these forums it's the most overhyped thing ever created.
after i played the game i have to agree with all he saind..
+1 to jason & gamebreaker!!
"eeets alive!"
Run for your lives, necro thread is after you.
All die, so die well.
so simple to aswer your question OP.
Without trying to sound too crass, I have to say that even being a slightly older gamer compared to some, I'm not comfortable playing games with people falling below that threshold of skill in the first place.
you can play it that way.
but you're gonna have a bad time!
