Major patch 1.2 bugs prompt unscheduled server maintenance

No, i'ts not a joke. This the communication from BW so far. For some added hilarity, here are the patch notes for the update that broke the game.

Update: ETA -  6:00PM CDT (April 14th, 12:00AM BST, 1:00AM CEST, 9:00AM AEST)

"During last night's maintenance, some areas of the game were reverted to pre-Game Update 1.2 status. Some areas were 'missing' and characters that were in those areas would be unavailable. We took the live servers offline at approx 9:30AM CDT (Austin time).

Our server and deployment teams are now working to rebuild assets for the live servers, but this is unfortunately not a quick process. We currently estimate that our downtime could be up to eight hours, but that time may be extended."

Its clearly a mistake, it rolled back practically everything (content, areas in the game, etc). The dev's posted in the dev blog the servers are going down again and they'll fix it.

Even if that is the case, the incompetence is astounding.

First they make it clear to their playerbase how little they actually care about them (but oh how they love their wallets) and then they can't even implement a content patch without breaking the game?

I love it.  they run this big promotion, come back to SWTOR and see all the cool new things in 1.2!

just not this morning, this morning we forgot to put in half of 1.2.   Come back tomorrow, tomorrow we'll be ready.  Poor BW, showing their amateur nature this morning.

I'm so fucking happy I spent 600k for the guild bank and my guild put all of our cool shiny mats in there just for them to be deleted today with no word if we will get them back. and no word if the game will ever even be brought back online.

Yes, they made a mistake, its astounding. (its a big mistake ill admit, but whatever).

What i dont get is how you say they dont care about the playerbase but do care about their wallets? If that was even remotely true then they wouldnt have given a majority of subscribing players 1 free month play time. They wouldnt have given the people who had patching problems a few days ago 3 free days play time, and a bunch of other things.

How exactly are they making it clear to the playerbase they dont care about them? I'm not seeing it personally.

They have the ptr to test out the patches before they roll.out live. Players accept there's still bugs when patch, but not this. And alot of players comes back or is coming back base on this patch.

bw better fix it fast with everything restore, if not.....

The OP's post is premature.  Nothing has been said about "rolling back" 1.2.  There were some glaring bugs with 1.2 and they are obviously deploying an emergency patch to attempt to fix them.  The guild banks being missing are obviously a bug in the database.

Okay, I'll spell it out for you because it really isn't that hard to understand:

If the new promotion was indeed intended to show their loyal playerbase their appreciation, BioWare would have awarded everyone who's been an active since release the free 30 days. However, they are just offering the free game time to their Lv50 players even if someone has spent countless hours leveling alts. This makes it quite clear that the promotion has nothing to do with appreciating their players and everything to do with keeping bored Lv50 players around.

While trying to draw in Lv50's with free game time is not a bad thing, pretending that you are giving them that time because they are "loyal" is spitting in the face of all their loyal customers who happen not to have a Lv50.

Well, having unsubed late Febuary  I was able to log on to play.  The game is more polished than it was, and I can press B repeatedly and not loose FPS.  I Q'ed for WZ and it took longer than usual, even for this time of day.  The auction house is still active so there are still players playing.  Once the WZ poped there was only 4 of us on Republic side.  I do find the WZ fun...

YET, I don't know...the game is fine and all that, it's just... I don't know why I don't really want it to be one of the MMOs I play.  Maybe being cooped up on that fleet which feels so isolated from the rest of the galaxy has something to do with it.  Anywho...  I'll be playing some PvP with my LvL 48 character while it's free for the next few days.  I was so out of it with my key bindings and I was still putting out lots of damage, lol.

The one thing that is annoying with the game is... well you know how in KotoR you press x and you can swing your lightsabers around?  Well.. can't do that in this game...  I know.  It's something so small yet, it helped feeling like you controled your lightsabers.

Sigh... this game could have been awesome!  And that is all this free time is reminding me of.  There shouldn't have been a fleet!  And space travel between planets could have been seemless.

    Oh well.

Considering they patched today and brought up the servers for a total of about 30 minutes before bringing them back down, I would say it is safe to say they are fixing this bug. Sky is not falling.; the beems are still in place!

Huge patches always have issues. Considering this is one of the biggest patches for an MMO, I would say they did pretty well.
