I cant say anything about EQ2, but this i can say, many of the player´s is starting to leave Eq2.
i think guild wars will make it, but not with mmorpg gamers. most ppl who play and love mmorpgs might try guild wars and quit while ppl from D2 or those who never tried a mmorpg will fill GW up. my prediction is that the community will be terrible much worse than what ppl say of WoW's community. this is not saying GW will not be a good game, it just wont take away many subscribers of other games, just bring in a more and different player base.

I hardly ever post here and usually just lurk on through some of the posts to see whats up. But when I saw this post I had to chime in. Having played both eq2 and WoW I have a valid argument on this subject. To the experienced gamers these games will not satiisfy there gaming needs. Both are dumbed down with very little character development. Its doesnt take a scientist to tell that the audience they are catering too are kids. I enjoy character management and have been let down in the past years with the junk thats been released. I think most the real gamers dont want to be spoon fed and want the risk of gimping a character. Not only are you playing your character that way but your playing against your own creativity. Games like Ac and SB that allow some player freedom in design is where the games need to be heading. I wish these companies would put a product out there that would challenge us. Stop with the cookie cutter designs and go out on a limb and let us make our own characters.
nc soft should go down in flames or stay asian based and stay away from NA since they have no idea what is what we expect and will tolerate in a game

I dunno, I know several people who sell adena (l2) and influence (coh) who are from NA... they don't get banned either... so I really don't think NC soft cares about it period. Of course i've never known anyone to get banned from eq for selling either so... shrug. The companies make their money by having accounts open... that's an open account. They don't care for the most part.

Uh, I see people roleplaying in COH all the time. More than I saw in EQ1 or DAOC for that matter (especially several months after release, in eq1/daoc most of the roleplayers poofed after they got on the leveling treadmill...)
Hell, even on the roleplay servers there are large groups of non-roleplayers in eq/daoc because of the differnt than normal server rules. Shrug.

I played on MLF originally (a non-rp daoc server) and after I met my s.o. I moved to Guin because she played there... and there is no policy about speaking like they did in 900ad, which is perhaps the most stupid thing I've ever heard anyone even suggest... ever. I still have active eq1 chars (which I'm not playing) on RN & FV and I think I grouped with perhaps 5 role players the entire way from 1-35 on FV... as a cleric... grouped everytime i played from level 9ish onward. Yah a few people are spazzes about roleplaying but 75% of the population of the roleplay servers just don't want to see names like "Buffysummers" or "Jackmeoff"...

1) Yeap, I played at release until I1 was released, quit and then reactivated about three weeks ago. Still a fun game, and alot of the issues I had at release have been dealt with. 2) No, there are ... uh good god, man, there are probally a hundred factions of enemies each faction having at least a dozen of different types of enemies in it and different models for each type. Some factions you only see at certain level ranges, other factions you see beginning to end.
COH is a MMORPG. If it isn't a MMORPG then neither is EQ, AO, or SWG.
I'll freely give you that it's not part of the FANTASY genre, but even table top roleplaying games cross many genres. There are several tabletop superhero roleplaying games infact. Just like there are several tabletop sci-fi roleplaying games. Fantasy happens to be the most popular but that doesn't make it the only type of roleplaying game.

Incorrect, PVP is coming with Issue 4. You really *should* try to know at least a *little* bit about subjects you want to talk about. Of course, I don't expect you to at this point. WoW is alot of fun, but right now endgame content is literally non existant. it only took 3 weeks of casual playing to get my rogue to lvl60. I dont want to roll a new char. Fun game, but high end content is required.
I played eq1, but never bought eq2. played on a friends machine. Beautiful scenery but other than that not much else to say. same old "you need a cleric a warrior...etc" in group to do anything fun. half your time is spent looking for the "perfect" group

Uh, I see people roleplaying in COH all the time. More than I saw in EQ1 or DAOC for that matter (especially several months after release, in eq1/daoc most of the roleplayers poofed after they got on the leveling treadmill...)
Hell, even on the roleplay servers there are large groups of non-roleplayers in eq/daoc because of the differnt than normal server rules. Shrug.

I played on MLF originally (a non-rp daoc server) and after I met my s.o. I moved to Guin because she played there... and there is no policy about speaking like they did in 900ad, which is perhaps the most stupid thing I've ever heard anyone even suggest... ever. I still have active eq1 chars (which I'm not playing) on RN & FV and I think I grouped with perhaps 5 role players the entire way from 1-35 on FV... as a cleric... grouped everytime i played from level 9ish onward. Yah a few people are spazzes about roleplaying but 75% of the population of the roleplay servers just don't want to see names like "Buffysummers" or "Jackmeoff"...
1) Yeap, I played at release until I1 was released, quit and then reactivated about three weeks ago. Still a fun game, and alot of the issues I had at release have been dealt with.
2) No, there are ... uh good god, man, there are probally a hundred factions of enemies each faction having at least a dozen of different types of enemies in it and different models for each type. Some factions you only see at certain level ranges, other factions you see beginning to end.
COH is a MMORPG. If it isn't a MMORPG then neither is EQ, AO, or SWG.
I'll freely give you that it's not part of the FANTASY genre, but even table top roleplaying games cross many genres. There are several tabletop superhero roleplaying games infact. Just like there are several tabletop sci-fi roleplaying games. Fantasy happens to be the most popular but that doesn't make it the only type of roleplaying game.
I don't have to be right, but in this case I am... because basically, you don't know what you're talking about period.
I generally enjoy debating things with people, but this feels like having a gunfight with an unarmed person.

WoW is alot of fun, but right now endgame content is literally non existant. it only took 3 weeks of casual playing to get my rogue to lvl60. I dont want to roll a new char. Fun game, but high end content is required.
I played eq1, but never bought eq2. played on a friends machine. Beautiful scenery but other than that not much else to say. same old "you need a cleric a warrior...etc" in group to do anything fun. half your time is spent looking for the "perfect" group
