Well about those new games. IMO Vanguard won't be a best seller. It'll find it's player base but even if i played eq1 i'm not a brad fan. About DnL : well i dont know. Altough I think that Guildwars is the next big hiter. I think GW will be more successfull than EQ2, even if it's not a real mmorpg.
Sorry to get to wow vs eq2 but btw, here in france (dont forget localised WoW is pretty new in europe) is in the top 5 best selling games (all kind of games) this month.
Same for Call of Heroes (localised version). EQ2 is not in the 30 best selling games strangely.

Have you people even looked at Vanguard, I mean come on, if you really like MMO's then I would think you guys would have the sense to choose Vanguard over the rest. Who cares if a big game company would back them up, and forget EQ. I am sure Vanguard will be the best, we do not know for certain and if you like just playing MMO's and not making a whole deal like a matter of life and death. Then play whatever you would like, I will just be saying that Vanguard may be more worthwhile then all other "Great" MMORPG's. World of Warcraft seems to be fading my attention and is getting extremely boring. I already have well much over the ammount any player in WoW can wish for. WoW is a good game, but maybe too good a good game to make me get bored of it fast. Leveling is just too simple minded and easy. Where is the challenge, it is just for casual players and stop flaming what MMO is better right now. ESPECIALLY you WoW lovers, I am so sick of you talking about WoW is great, we all know it is fun, but for most of us, it doesn't last as long, get what I am saying? You have to admit that WoW is getting old, if you think it is not, I would think your insane, but its all your opinion.

Just remember that in my opinion I would think that Vanguard may be the most sucessful. As for the older post by

You sicken me to the core, I am sorry but, your just stupid. World of Warcraft obviously has a big name behind it. It is blizzard, of course it will have a huge sucess. I just had to rant about you because your opinions are just laughable image

Will you stop being a dumb idiot and consider NC Soft? My friend plays it and I seen farmer ratings go down FAR from what you are saying and I already have a higher character then you, it isn't an instant rewarding game. If you play long you will have fun, C3 will further expand you to play more as well. If you got banned, then very good, NC Soft did a good job getting rid of a idiot like you image

Ok, attemting to get somewhat back on topic here....

    My thoughts on Vanguard:

On one end, Vanguard sounds really cool, and on the other hand, I'm unsure about it. Let me explain.

What I think is cool about the game are all of the hinted-at features they would like to have in the game (as listed on Vanguard's uber-faq page).

However, I'm not too jazzed about the type of player they seem to be attracting. If you go on their official forums, they are filled with EQ1 vets who constantly swear up and down that this game will be EQ1 reborn.

Now, I know Vanguard is going to be designed to be more of a challenge than most current MMOs, but I hope to God that they don't listen to all of the suggestions these guys put forth on the forums. Basically, if the feature was boring or tedious in the slightest, the Vanguard fanyboys automatically assume that it will be in Vanguard because, well...Vanguard = EQ1, right?

    Ahh..that's just what I think.

I agree that Guildwars and Vanguard arent on the same page because of the seperation in release dates.  If you want to compare Guildwars you can match it up with Dark and Light.  I think in the end Dark and Light will make a bigger showing on the market then Guildwars.

As for Vanguard it does have competition.  Hero's Journey.  Vanguard has some names on the dev team that will have people from EQ1 checking it out at least, what kind of staying power the game has, or even its ability to move players from EQ2 and WoW is not predictable yet.  The game isnt even in Beta.  No one knows what the gameplay, content, graphics, et al will even be like yet.  Hero's Journey is the game I think will be competing with Vanguard for numbers.  The reason being that HJ is being produced by a company that still has ptp MUD's in opperation.  I personally started in Dragon's Gate, and moved to EQ1.  In my opinion a graphical verson of Dragon's Gate will be far more immersive then a revamped EQ.  Thats not to say that Vanguard wont be a good game, its just that HJ will not only be pulling from the current MMORPG community, but they will also have people from the MUD community moving over as well.

The lists here are so biased and off that they can't be legitimately used to determine anything... all the fanboys give straight 10s, all the "haters" give straight 1s, which ever side is in the majority tilts the numbers that way.

Then you get the people who try to offset someone elses review, the people who have never played the games that review them, etc...

You'd get a more accurate guess of "market appeal" by going by the sales numbers of the various games... and I honestly don't think thats a good measure either.

Speak for yourself, I rated both WoW and EQ II well and fairly, don't make accusations against others based off guesswork.

DnL vs Vanguard is the Future!
    Lets get ready to rumble:)

WOW ain't fading. MMOGCHART.com shows them with 1.2 million subscribers now. That's pretty big, in my opinion. Now, I'm not a WOW fanbois, I play old EQ, but am just stating the facts.

As far as Guild Wars and DnL, we'll see how they fare, but lack of much pre-release hype doesn't lead me to think they'll topple WOW and flood the market.

So are you lumping yourself in with the fanboys or haters? Did I say *EVERYONE* posts crap in them? Do you people even bother to read before applying the post to yourself and assuming that everyone is refering to you, you, and only you? I swear to god this is the most *)@$ed up board I've ever been on for that shit and I'm a usenet nut.

Read the post again, I said the numbers were screwed because most fanboys and haters rate way off on one end or the other. Then some people rate the otherway to offset. So you gave a fair evaluation? Yay. Go read other people's evals in some of the "less popular" games, or the posts for wow/eq2 right about the time they came out, lovely posts like... "Screenshots suck, this is so ugly, go play <insert game here>."

I didn't make an accusation and if you feel like taking what I said to be directed at you feel free, must be a reason you feel the need to take everything so personally.

    I hate people.
