I don't like being gank by some idiot who is too much of a bitch to fight me head on, so he waits till I'm not in a position to fight back. play on a pve server. flag up when you want add an element of danger to your routine.
Open world PvP in your terms mean every area in the game, you can attack someone for absolutely no reason correct? Or is your definition something different, cause that is what OWPVP is, everything, everywhere, is free game, all the time. open world pvp is when you're out in the world and pvp occurs. it doesnt have to be full loot, or 24/7. it just has to be open, as in not in an instance with a preset number of enemies with an objective gui and a shiny token for your efforts.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
The only good open world pvp games I can think of are sandboxes...for some odd reason...eh well beats me

Even WoW's open world pvp was fun before it was tarnished with battlegrounds and honor. If you played during Vanilla you'd understand.

I never got into WoW, but during vanilla wasnt it just huge zones where PvP was allowed? as in PvP wasn't allowed everywhere in game, but more had just HUGE areas to do it, and everyone was allowed into that same area on one server?

No you could pvp anywhere, but on pve servers you had to flag and on PvP servers you were safe in the three major towns, the zones just outside of them and the newbie zone.

So correct me where i'm wrong. PvE servers were like PvP servers, except you just have to flag up, but those safe areas on PvP servers were the same safe areas flagged or not for PvE servers? And were those areas that were safe fairly small?

He's trying to hole us into saying that too was WvW, and it isn't.
in WoW, you had your two factions.
if you were one faction, you were attackable by the enemy if you were in any of "their" zones.
and vice versa.
Some zones were contested, meaning you are attackable regardless.
You could even pvp in cities, if you could kill/avoid guards.
3-4 "zones" where all you do is PVP is not what we are asking for. That's planned, and you know your going there to PVP.. The beauty in real world pvp is that its never planned and you never know when your going to run into it.

I was talking about as of right [now]
I saw AOC/WoW/and a few more mention.
Most of the time it's "Before such and such was introduced it was good."
Though if I where to make a game where I designed PVE to be cooperative, why would I think make it confusing by ading in PVP,
I mean I'd really make my openworl pvp that, works
Where people can have an pve experience but at the same time not be ganked but can still be hunted and as well want to fight other players, I' also add in world bosses that have good rewards, and so on.
The more I list the more my description looks like something I won't mention because it's ironic on what it is.
Many list what open world pvp has and it's sad because they are literally describing something that something has, it's just maybe they want a carbon copy of GW 2's pve with pvp in it lmao

Haha no problem, i'm not trying to argue, i'm trying to understand the difference. In the games i've played, which isn't very many, the PvP and PvE were seperated, DAoC, WAR, and SW:TOR, each game had its own area. DAoC had its Frontiers, War had its warzones inside each tier of each races world, and SW:TOR had illum. Now all of these had keeps, towers, and other objectives. You didn't have to take these or do anything, you can go out and kill freely, do what you wish with as many people as you wish. or just sit there and do nothing at all. Sometimes you would find 2-3 people running small mans, other times you would find a zerg. it wasn't set, it was all random. DAoC did this best of course but they were all the same in concept. i don't consider those true "open world PVP games". because it is seperated from the PvP. but they have a very open world feel. Yet a lot of peoples arguments say DAoc was a open world PvP. I'm sorry if i took you for one of those people haha, i'm just trying to see that difference.

Agree with your opinion but its not always planned. Sure 80% of time you will be taking down keeps and expecting resistance but I bet there will be moments when you are exploring or running to some keep and get gankfested. I'm sure there will be some 'holy shit' moments that give you the open world feeling. There are still many pve dynamic events in the mists that can catch you offguard and I wouldn't bee too let down just because it doesn't fit the original open world criteria.

There are no healers/tanks! I can’t play my favorite role!
The combat is too hard!
There’s no subscription! It’ll lose money, crash, burn and fail!
Great article over at ZAM discussing the five above mentioned arguements against GW2 and why they may not hold up under closer scrutiny. Definitely worth a read and further discussion.
They are my top five reasons for playing.
You're going to play it because it is going to crash, burn and fail?

Oh just read this is about an article...above statement still holds!
Funny does are 5 points i love in GW2, no world pvp means no ganking, and i'm hardcore pvper, pvp should always be as balanced as possible, ok this is an mmo so a perfect balance will never happen, but an MMO with WvWvW pvp and structured pvp with tournaments is Heaven for me, and on top of this, pve looks lots of fun and with very hard dungeons, with lots of great features.

My bad, i misread an earlier post of yours...
I've played every triple AAA MMO in existence since UO.. When I say open world pvp I mean.. and simply..
- The ability to attack and/or kill other players in any area of the game world with the exception of instanced areas, or heavily guarded cities. I don't need rewards, I don't need nodes to guard.
The best fun I've ever had in ANY mmo, were some of the large scale random skirmishes that happened out in the open world, without any planning and without any rewards at stake. I don't need to loot your corpse either.
I thought you said in AN area, not ANY area, completely my bad
Sorry for my dummy head confusion, i was trying to argue the same idea, it's not OW unless it's in EVERY area of the game, hence PvP servers. My bad man.

It was crap. The only time open world pvp is any good is when the server is new and eveyone is the same level. As sone as a server gets some max levels they would just hang out and grif all the lower level's. That is not pvp, thats crap players that can't handle real pvp so they go around ganking players that can't fight back.
If you want true open world pvp go play EVE online. or GW2's WvW (looks very close).
Also i don't know what you were playing but classic wow had battle grounds and rewarded farming pvp with gear, and titles.

What creates this problem is bad endgame.. WHen you see this in an MMO it means the only people who have much to do at endgame are PVPers. This goes back to the point of true sandbox endgame activity vs Themepark or zergfests. The support roles and other options are key, it keeps a lot of people around and a diverse group of: PVEers, PVPers, Support roles, Crafters and roleplayers. Think EVE, think SWG, think UO and other sandbox oriented designs.

1-graphics are not very good
2-very expensive game
3-catshop in game
4-no mounts in game
5-the game is splited for zones and not open world
What creates this problem is bad endgame..

Thats the reason i said EVE.
ooo I should really tell my wife that GW2 has a catshop. she loves cats.
only worthwhile part of this post.
