I am still trying to decide if I want to Pre-Purchase to play this weekend. I never really paid too much attention to GW2 in the past because I never played GW1 and was into other games at the time. When I started checking it out this weekend I was amazed about all the stuff in this game, the videos I watched all impressed me, it seems everything I loved in past MMO's is part of this game and its F2P on top of it.
1) If you like PvP
2) If you think the launch (honeymoon period) of an MMO is fun
3) You like what you have seen so far
Then buy it now. It will be hard not to get $60 worth of enjoyment out of this game....at a minimum.
Why would you say "If you like PVP"? The game does offer a lot for PvP players via structured PVP matches and World vs. World (vs. World) warfare, but the game also looks to offer more "at launch" PVE content than possibly any MMO since WoW. The Personal Story mode gives you a branching RPG experience with in the game, with out being madatory or obtrusive. This game is every bit as much for PVE players as it is for PVP players.
1) I feel that I can say for certain the PvP content (all of it) is going to be a quality experience.
2) PvE is where a lot of innovation has taken place. I also feel people who enjoy PvE have come to expect certain things (standard raids being one of them). Some time after launch you are going to hear a group of people bitch about GW2 because it doesnt have the type of PvE content they desire. This will be the fault of the player, not the game. However, I am strongly against this "end game starts at lvl 1" bullshit.....and others trying to spin certain DE's as "raids". It is false. We arent doing ourselves any favors by doing this. This game could very well disappoint die hard PvE'ers.
3) and most importantly, I didnt mention PvE because PvE'ers are lesser people. (sarcasm)
2) Betas ruin the magic of playing for the first time at release, imo.
3) I never, ever, ever, will pre-purchase a game.
I love to pre-purchase. The magic can be the beta itself and being part of it. I like contributing to something I will hopefully be enjoying months or maybe years.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
i pre purchased collectors edition... nothing todo with beta, nothing todo with extras (except for the statue and art books) i pre purchased because arena net is a excellent game developer who has poured so much work and time into the game and it shows with their interviews, how they stay up till 4 in the morning playing the game, testing things out, doing hotfixes while playing, always tweaking and adjusting, they are not only making a game for us to play, but they are making a game they can enjoy playing themselves which i think sets them apart from a lot of other development companies.
i respect the work they do, the game is amazing and it deserves my money... if the "pre purchase scheme" was infact to hold of ncsoft from pushing an early release date, so be it.. i'm happy to give them my $150 so they can continue making this game the best it can be for launch.
it's support... regardless of how you feel about betas no one is forcing you to play them... show you love for arena net and pre purchase, if you're gonna buy it anyway why wait till release, i dont see the difference

Grats on your purchase. Resistance is futile. You will all be assimilated!
