I have about 50' of CAT 5 in my closet.  I buy in bulk and make my own RJ-45 cable. :)  It's so cheap that way... and it's blue! :)

    uber PC blue.

My server has a 4' cable,  but that's just to connect to the hub.  I have a cable going to my PC,  then running wireless to all the other PCs.  I'm shareing the Internet and everything else.  It's very easy,  and it's even easier with XP.

It's so easy it's kind of scray!  Just click two options,  and poof...  (Just use the network wizard)

And with wireless,  you can do so much more...  Plus it's just cool to say you have a wireless network. :)

Untill I get enough money and get something better. :)

Yeah I'm going to keep this new machine for a bit...  I bought a motherboard that can support the new 400MHz FSB AMDs.

I'm going to wait a bit for the 64-Bit CPUs...  to much money right now,  and I want AMD to work out the bugs in the first couple of CPUs.

Damn sorry I didn't see this sooner...I hate intel products especially celeron..AMDs benchmark tests have proved they actually get closer to the speed they are overclocked for more so than pentiums or celerons. Only problem with AMDs is they overheat a lot faster so you have to have enough heatsinks to keep them cool :) AMDs are better suited for gaming but Intel is better recommended for business purposes because of the overheating factor.

The new Intel Pentium 4EE (Extreme Edition) is nothing but a fancy Xeon with 2MB L3 cache,  and as much cache as a Barton CPU...

It's a really nice CPU,  but I'm still getting my AMD.  On stock cooling you can go from a 2500+ PR to 3200+ PR just by raising the FSB from 333MHz to 400MHz.

I've seen people get 3900+ Ratings...  it's crazy!  From a 2.5Ghz CPU to almost 4Ghz...  on air cooling!

    And it's only a $90 USD chip!

    <sighs>
I always go for the cheaper option when making my own Pc and regret it. Bought a MB a few months back from a trade fair but FORGOT to check where I had to return it if it was faulty (it was - dead as a dodo). Somewhere in the middle of nowhere and only during working hours - NOT weekends. £80 down the drain.

My 2.4 Gig Athalon chip has been sitting at a friends house for damn near 2 months + now! Time to buy a new MB.

I upgraded my RAM Pc2700DDR but yes, stupidly bought 256 instead of a 512 stick. Why stupid? 256 doesn't cut it and RAM should be bought in 512 sticks. Best to utilize as few slots as possible.

The new MB will definitely have a FSB of 333MHZ - now have to decide whether to stick with PC2700 or ditch it in favour of Pc3200 DDR or whatever it is. Will talk to one of my more knowledgeable friends on the subject.

Will also need a new graphics card to replace my venerable GeF 2 400MX - will need to look at a few Pc Zones (another friend is a subscriber) to check baseline performance vs. cost.

Whilst I am it, time to get a new case and put my old components in the old case and install a variation of Linux on it.

In the UK we get it in the ass for component prices compared to you Americans ...

I am thinking long and hard about a new monitor but at the moment, I have more pressing concerns for my hard earned money i.e. payment of my accountancy course, usual bills etc, and some major redecoration in my flat. New carpet, new wardrobes, new computer desk and that's just my bedroom! Need a new bookcase for the hall, new tiles, a new sofa for the living room ..

    Ugh.
