The number one (and two) reason's I'm buying D3 after beta..

Back when I lived in my Dad's basement and played WoW (no, I'm not joking) and had endless hours to waste, MMO's were freaking awesome.  Now that I'm all growns up with Wife and Child (and even a Mortgage!!) those endless hours of gaming are gone forever.  Quite frankly, I wouldn't go back for anything.  My playtime now is restricted to maybe an hour at night after everyone has gone to bed, or maybe a few hours early in the morning on the weekend before everyone wakes up.

The first time I was playing the open beta and say the word "Checkpoint" go across the screen, my jaw opened up and hit my keyboard.  To be able to get in and play for a few minutes, kick some butt, advance a little bit, and stop was a very welcomed capability. And then, I started experiencing a feeling that was very unfamiliar to me at first (lost after the countless raids and time suck that is an MMO), but I eventually and immediately recalled it from the recesses of the dormant youthful area of my mind.... fun.

You're right. But I think that quite some people here on this forum see it differently.

Well I hear that OP.   I have a wife, a 7 year old daughter, and a 9 year old son.  I dont have the time to game the way I used too.

Thats a couple of very valid reasons to play a certain game.  I also respect the fact you make sure you make time for your family.  I mean, I still wont be buying D3 and have my reasons, but if it satisfys that gaming itch while satisfying your time requirements Im all for it.

Just thinking the same thing as others in this thread - those are great reasons. I'm kinda in a similar boat with how close and active I am in my niece and nephews life. I guess I am getting more interested in games that allow short bursts of entertainment instead of the investment you make in hours of playing most other MMOs, knowing your class, optimizing it, gearing up for events, etc. etc. I've gone from MMO style commitment to bite-sized chunks of casual games and the tradeoff in time spent with family IRL is worth every minute. I guess that's yet another reason I am really loving what I saw over this past weekend. Diablo III is great progressive gearing/leveling with many easy stopping points along the way whenever life calls.

You do realise diablo 3 is not a MMORPG? its a single player game with a co-op option so yes you get save points amazing hehe :) so yeah D3 will suit you just fine :)

The main reason im gonna get diablo 3 is because I actually had fun and that was a big suprise as I thought blizzard where gonna balls it up.. its a shame abotu the graphics and some of the dumbing down that has happened but at the end of the day its still goof fun :)

I really think (without flame or sarcasme) that you are fooling yourself, knowing blizzard.

If you think that diablo3 will allow you to play like a little bit a then let it go, you are underestimating blizzard Sir.

That i'm sure of because of the nature of blizzard way to channel player energy to big money.

It is that simpel : if you play a lot, like you did before with WoW you will have a lot of fun and of course a lot of nasty gear to help cleanse the demon of this world.

I f you do not have the time, but a job (also my case) you might buy your items from the auction house and of course being lucky with drop will help keep you going.

The difference between the beta and the live game will be (i think it is called) the "inferno difficulty".

I think once you reach this level of difficulty it will be after countless hour, so maybe it will take you 6 to 8 month to reach because of you casual nature of your gaming but then again  the auction house might be your best friend.

At that time the all real money system will shine and blizzard shares will be worth more than it is now at the equity market.

    Diablow 3, it sucks ...

Bushi you might be right.  My Dad always told me growing up to "never underestimate another man's greed", and since we are dealing with Blizzard I'm sure it's very unwise.  I will say though that I will have weekly (especially in the early mornings on the weekend - and an hour or two here and there at night during the week) some time to play uninterrupted, and I'm hoping that once I get to extremely difficult content I'll be able to work on it during that timeslot.  I know that Blizzard's grasp is frighteningly strong, and if the day comes that my son is tugging on my leg saying "dah-dee, dah-dee" and my response is "not now Son, Daddy is playing a video game" ........ I'm putting it down and walking away.

The good news is that money isn't super tight... if I have to spend a few bucks on the AH to advance, It's in the realm of reason.

LOL! So true.  My neck isn't looking forward to it either craning over my desk at home.  I'm going to invest in a video card that has a HDMI port and get a wireless headset / mouse / keyboard to be able to jam on my plasma in the living room.

Caldrin  yes I do realize D3 isn't a MMO in the truest sense.  And quite honestly, the true MMO has lost it's luster for me in many ways.  I'm not judging or criticisizing others who are still totally enamored (I mean GW2 Looks freaking awesome - and is GW2 even a true MMO?) with the genre but it's just not quite for me anymore.  I'm kind of with you on the dumbing down, and then in some ways im sort of looking forward to it... if it means less time fidgeting with things so that I can get a few more minutes kicking some butt, I'm willing to make that sacrifice.

I also read a blue post (which I really should link at some point) which went in depth at the amazing customization that actually does exist in the game.

But at any rate I do appreciate the feedback!  Hopefully I'll see you in game at some point.

just be careful with what you put on auction..

your wife and kid might not find amusing you getting out of cash due to rl cash bills for stuff you didnt sell on auction..

that would be a nono for sure, right?

It is MORE fun than a conventional MMO.

    Number two reason.

The same could be said about WoW with its more casual approach, SWToR, or any of the casual aimed themeparks. Maybe they aren't your thing, but the notion that a hack'n slash is casual is sort of absurd and redundant.

I don't get it, there are plenty of MMOs that you can go on and play for ten or twenty minutes and accomplish something.

Sure you can't raid in that time frame, but then you can't raid in D3 either....

  • DoomedfoxDoomedfox Member UncommonPosts: 679

That argument would work for pretty much all single player games no?

Most of them dont even have checkpoints but allow you to quicksave whenever you want so would that not be even better for you?

Also isnt that only working if you play it solo? I would imagine a group would not only want to play to a certain checkpoint but finish what they started the only time in MMOs you have a hard time to stop playing is if you are doing pt content if you play solo you can stop whenever you want so i really do have a hard time to understand your point.

Leave it to Blizzard fans to make a big deal out of the most normal thing in a singleplayer game if thats the best reason to play sane gamers would just look for another game.....

I don't get what's so fascinating about D3. I played the beta and cleared it in less than an hour. It feels like D2.5 with less maximum players, the lack of a server list, non-randomized areas and the most rehashed beginning I've seen in a couple of years. I wonder whether Act II is located in the desert and Act III in the jungle. Also, since higher level characters can drag you through the content making the game boring as hell and the lack of an appropriate match filter to remove unbalanced games, Blizzard shows how much they have fallen from their former glory of game design.

Starcraft II was great and I played it for a long time, because the campaing was well done and the funmaps are fun as hell. But Blizzard has lost their creativity and suffer from the Activision philosophy to not take any risks at all.

I just think there are better and older games for you (op) to buy and jump in. I'd recommend D2.

My sons have also changed their minds and will be purchasing D3. They are both students living in different parts of the country. No sub games are important to students for obvious reasons and they have happy memories of playing the other Diablo games together. I say fair enough to them.image

Count me in too (along with my gf :-)). We are also in that exact same boat!

Still love playing MMO's, but I just don't make much progress in them anymore, since my son is taking most of my time these days. :-)

That's also why I actually enjoyed WoW again with the Dungeon Finder. Lot of people hate it, but for people like us it's a blessing.

You can just jump in, queue up, and do a short dungeon run and with luck get out with a nice piece of loot and make some progress along the way.

    Perfect for family people! :-)
