Most of them dont even have checkpoints but allow you to quicksave whenever you want so would that not be even better for you?

Also isnt that only working if you play it solo? I would imagine a group would not only want to play to a certain checkpoint but finish what they started the only time in MMOs you have a hard time to stop playing is if you are doing pt content if you play solo you can stop whenever you want so i really do have a hard time to understand your point.

Leave it to Blizzard fans to make a big deal out of the most normal thing in a singleplayer game if thats the best reason to play sane gamers would just look for another game.....

Solo mode obviously, and I have a ton of RL friends who are playing and would certainly understand if i had to bail, and even in a PUG I have a much better chance of being able to log-in, play for 15-30 minutes, get at least SOMETHING done, and get out.  And after I "got out" in a PUG, there would be someone who would quickly replace me.

With all the other MMO's I've played there was so much time spent travelling, trying to organize a group / raid, general prep time, etc. etc. that I simply don't have available anymore to spend.

With D3 it seems with even 30 minutes I could quickly grab a few blues, blow off some steam, maybe beat a boss, and actually have some fun.

I said it was my number one and two reasons.  I didn't include all the other reasons that the game appeals to me, and I just haven't come across a single player game that held my attention and or enjoyed.  I've tried playing a bunch of RPG's on the console since WoW, and tried Torchlight.  Before WoW I played SWG, EQ & EQ2, DAoC, AO, etc. etc. the list goes on all the way back to UO.

I don't just want a single player game though, and with D3 if I bailed I would be quickly and efficiently replaced.

If you have some other games that you recommend for me to check out considering my circumstances though, I'm all ears.  Also labeling me a "Blizzard fan" isn't entirely accurate.  I played D2, WoW, and looking forward to D3.  After playing D3 though, I'm definitely considering buying some Activision stock... they definitely have a winner on their hands.  If I knew a little more about Titan, it would be a no brainer.  So if I drop 10 or 20k in Activistion stock, then you can label me a Blizzard fan.

Sure you can't raid in that time frame, but then you can't raid in D3 either....

I am not sure D3 can be compared to games that have raids.  Sure there are casual MMOs out there, but as a casual gamer you can't really get into raids, which would be considered end game content.  In D3 the end game content is inferno, and that certainly is attainable by somebody playing casually or solo (although if played casually it may take a while to farm the gear for inferno).

It's not a catch to me...I'm aware of what it is and what it isn't, and I'm perfectly happy with the result.  While I'm used to MMO's, that genre is most likely done forever for me.  With the aforementioned reasoning, it's just not something that will be accessible to me.  D3 is the first game that's actually held my attention and inspired me to pre-order something (based on the OB) and make me interested in a game since I put down WoW.

    Raids, schmaids.

While it isn't a MMO in the truest sense, I'm glad mmorpg.com decided to add it to the gamelist.

I admit my wording was not well chosen and therefore its understandable that you would think i did mean you when referring to Blizzard fans (and i do apologize for that) but it was aimed toward some of the replies you got praising blizzard for this function (checkpoints)

I also do not try to make the game sound bad or anything the RMA does that all by itself.

Everyone should play whatever they enjoy most i just find it silly to use something so normal like checkpoints ( which actually is pretty old and outdated) D3 is not an MMO so don't compare it to one its like saying the main reason for me to play Fifa is because of the ball all the other MMOs i played didn't have a ball i could kick so thats why Fifa is so awesome....it has nothing to do with each other and therefore shouldn't be compared.

As for me recommending games well thats tough since i do not really know what kind of game you want to play if its something you can play solo or in coop/multiplayer that also offers itemfarming i would say give Borderlands a try it pleasantly surprised me when i played it.

Apology accepted!  And I should really clarify the checkpoint comment... After so much experience with MMO's, it was just a totally welcomed capability to have a game that I'm interested in actually having that feature.  You're totally right in saying that it's nothing new or groundbreaking, it was more like a fist pump for me knowing that virtually everytime I play I'm going to have to end my session abruptly... If my kid wakes up, or has a major meltdown and Mom needs my help, or Mom and child get home, etc. etc.

i am in the exact same situation, fiancee-2 year old daughter.

but instead of diablo im choosing WvW pvp in gw2 because of how accesssible it is.

(ill probably do a single player run through of diablo myself this summer though)

i dont see anymore hardcore raids in our ever so slowly but surely aging lives.

    played a million mmo's

I'm looking at these videos of PoE and Grim Dawn, and I have to say that it's in the realm of reason that I'm basically just going to switch from MMO's to ARPG's.  Both of those games did look pretty cool.  I'm definitely going to stick with D3 for a while out of the gate (until I lose interest or my Wife takes my computer away), but I try to be as open minded as I can and those two games looked pretty interesting!

I'm interested in GW2 as well... would someone take a moment and let me know if it's going to be possible to play GW2 in a similar fashion to the way I'm planning on playing D3?  Is it possible that I still have one MMO in my future?  I mean I have an idea of how its structured, can GW2 be considered a casual MMO?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

GW2 can definitely be considered a casual MMORPG. The PVE and character progression side of the game can take as long as you want with littl enegative side effect, because the PVP side of the game doesnt care about your level or gear. I ahve a feeling many people who normally just crash through levels to endgame wont be doing that in GW2 because the world is so massive with crazy immersive features that to crash through it without exploring every nook and cranny would be a sin.

Back when I lived in my Dad's basement and played WoW (no, I'm not joking) and had endless hours to waste, MMO's were freaking awesome.  Now that I'm all growns up with Wife and Child (and even a Mortgage!!) those endless hours of gaming are gone forever.  Quite frankly, I wouldn't go back for anything.  My playtime now is restricted to maybe an hour at night after everyone has gone to bed, or maybe a few hours early in the morning on the weekend before everyone wakes up.

The first time I was playing the open beta and say the word "Checkpoint" go across the screen, my jaw opened up and hit my keyboard.  To be able to get in and play for a few minutes, kick some butt, advance a little bit, and stop was a very welcomed capability. And then, I started experiencing a feeling that was very unfamiliar to me at first (lost after the countless raids and time suck that is an MMO), but I eventually and immediately recalled it from the recesses of the dormant youthful area of my mind.... fun.

Yea, I am in same boat. And main reason i am getting it also.

I am locking this into a QUOTE right now for posterity!  Oooooo, Lobo.... BUSTED! image

Yea, but i addmited I changed my mind. image

Although I am still bit on the edge because of the price tag in europe - 60 euro :(

The war is over.. if you can be won over there is nothing left to fight for -.-

Though people have said it was 27-45 euro. Amazon was supposedly 27 i though unless i've been misinformed.

I don't know if I can stand all of this peacetime between two such gargantuan opposing forces... What's next?

I too have a 9 month old little girl and a 13 year old son. Yes it's hard to fit games in some times, especially with a full time job too.

Baby is in bed at 7 o clock that leaves me with a good few hours to enjoy "My Time". The wife has her time too.

My 13 year old boy plays mmo's with me sometimes, so he is rewarded with farming if he does his homework. :)

Same boat, but with 3 year old and 1 month old daughters.  My wife has been really awesome and accepting of games except for when she needs me and I say that I can't help because I am in a party or in a dungeon or something like this with an MMO.  I was playing Diablo 3 in the hospital and after our newborn came at times and she said, 'Whatever that game is I love it.'  This was simply because I could stop at any moment and help out.  I can play for 10 minutes or 10 hours and it caters to whatever I need.

This is a bonus of ARPG's in general, but since Diablo is the king of them (or queen) it really shines for me.  I also know that there is no sub and combining this with GW2 will cover me gaming wise for years while I wait for something to happen to this genre.  How can you have so many games that are essentially the same and boring shallow instant gratification clones?
