Tera is a new mmorpg genre for us gamers if we look at p2p games. The reason why you don't want to try it out, is maybe fear of leaving your longtime experience of the "standard" combat in mmorpgs?
In fighting games, when you execute a combo/finisher move you can't interrupt it. If someone picked up a pair of snowballs and threw them at me, he has to make a new pair of snowballs. I played the prologue and yeah I died some times on the boss. It showed how much skill you need to play this game (and why I don't understand why Froggies made the game a 12+ rating). Slayer was by far the hardest. Slow-hitting class that depend on being on the frontline duking it out hard with swords. I felt like I never have before in an MMO. This mmo is challangeing me to beat it and that I will do.
So it doesn't have dynamic events... I've played Warhammer and it was fun until you stood there afk waiting for the loot. I'm sorry but games like WoW can be infested with bots doing dungeons with you. Healbot??? Where is the skill in this? I have been a healer for a long time and my IQ dropped when I tested this out. Why use something so dumb when if you know how to play games would do better without it. Where's the action in these tab games? Oh... click on mob or tab. No aim, just click one button and roll the dice. In these games, there were no way for melee with 2h to dodge an attack. All they did was charge in and rage like a crazy bull hunting people down but just landing some blows before they drop dead.
You guys have wanted something unsimiliar to WoW for a long time now and you are complaining to make it more like it now? What a hypocrisy.
So the questing is like a console game. Too linear. Mmorpgs needs to differiate from the consoles "kids" play. Dudes, I have played sandbox games. If you want a huge world where you go as you'd like and have a billion of quests, hook up with Bill Gates and make him lose all those money on scientists to make you your dream mmorpg. No man with sense would even think about making that feature in a game. Starting areas... sure. But did you know how short WoW was with zones in vanilla? All I did back then was PvP because the PvE sucked. It was a little world that was an illusion to you because you didn't get a mount until lv40 and the cap was lv60 (+ the two continents) and honestly the PvP system was much more appealing back then than it is now.

Its not bashing when someone doesnt like the design direction of the game. I personally think the game would do a lot better if it disabled the Elin race and made the Elves, Castanic and Popori more masculine. Plus added more grittyness and mideval style art direction and then remove the kill 10 rats quest and finally remove the self rooting on combat animations. I would love to play the game and I would feel more immersed if the world felt more real and not looked like it was designed for pre-pubescent teenagers.
Neverwinter is doing all the things very similar to Tera and in a more traditional mideval fantasy way so thats where my action combat dollars will go. But I wish you all the luck in your game of choice.

Just not worth my time anymore.
The game is totally awesome... the problem are mostly just people on the forums who propably didn't play it or didn't play it past level 10. Our whole guild was sucked into Tera on the first day of play.
Alone the Open World PvP and Guild Wars aspect of the game will add so much more depth into a game than all those stupid and boring battlegrounds with points and rankings.
Can't wait to start playing on 28. April
Currently playing: Archeage
Waiting for: Black Desert
The inverse is also true for me.
L2P TERA combat:
I played it last weekend and must say that altough i realy dont like anime style games, this game realy got to me (never even remotely tought i would like it).
here are my personal pro and cons:
pro:
- good gfx ( it just looks good)
- combat system (dodging attacks and the chaining of skills)
- did i mention the chaining of skills...AWESOME feature imho.
- pretty original mobs (not all of them but i liked it)
- active and friendly chat
- easy to learn
- main city's (at lvl 11) are freaking AMAZING.
- the way mobs spawn and disappear look realy good (just a detail but to me it was a plus seeing mobs spawn with a flash of light and after death they kinda burn up in the sun like a vampire....maybe just details but i liked it.)
cons:
- no quest voices at al.....maybe i am spoiled ? hehe
- a lot of "go kill me XX of mobs" quest (but its like that in every game.....i bet even GW2 will have alot of them
Cant's realy find more "bad " things about this game.
Overal if GW2 and D3 wasn't comming out i would buy this for sure....
my 2 copperz worth on TERA.
The last time I was this hyped about waiting to play a game was when I was waiting for Aion, and then Brink. We both know how those turned out. I just REALLY hope the same doesn't happen for TERA. There's nothing worse than empty servers.
The thing that irritated me the most are the game controls if using a keyboard and mouse but apart from that the game is looking really good.
I am not bashing the game but I will not purchase it and I don't think it will be a very successful title but thats just my opinion.
Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I used an xbox style controller or a ps3 style one but then it starts reminding me of dc universe onlne in how much the controls irritated me there.
in other words, you want a different game. 100 % convinced that Tera isen't for you . i hope you find one that suits your personal taste.
So we want discussion forums to be filled only with people who agree with one another? Any attempt at raising valid issues and sparking debate is labeled as hating on the game. This goes for TERA, GW2, SW:TOR and any other upcoming game, but it sounds as if many fans of certain games only want their respective section of the boards to be filled with yes men so they can all live in a fantasy world where all is right with their game of choice and it's highly regarded as the best MMORPG ever made.
I'm sorry, but that's just not the way a discussion board works. The hint is in the name. Discussion boards are set up for people to collaborate, discuss, and debate issues not merely agree with everything everyone says all the time. If you did haven't threads full of SW:TOR fanboys vs GW2 fanboys with the ocasional TERA fan crying for attention, activity on this website would take a nosedive. We're all human and we're all naturally attracted to drama and conflict as if it's a car crash we can't look away from.
and that is exactly what is wrong this days. forums turn into a drama paradise, fanboys V bashers. none of them do anything constructive.
to find a none bias review around here, is like to find diamonds inside a butterfly head.
Why bash Tera? Because that's what people do here. Sad but true.
Bashing games is just the natural state of the mmorpg.com forums. All games get bashed, even the really hyped GW2 gets bashed. Just look at the GW2 forum. Games get bashed the most when people play their betas and realise that they are not the second coming. TERA has been played in the beta and soon GW2 will be played in beta and more people will start bashing it for the flaws that they have not yet seen, because all games have flaws and no game is for everyone.
Of course giving your opinion on a game is welcome, but going to other game forums to promote your game or trying to tell us why a game sucks in every thread is wrong. Just play what you like and if you think that you have an idea that will make TERA a better game without being unappealing to the people that play it, post your idea.
That, I would say, is because fans of their respective games label all criticism as non-constructive. You cannot go into the Guild Wars 2 forums and raise any sort of critism without having an army of fans attacking you, calling you an uneducated idiot while throwing at you link after of condescending youtube videos and forum stickies.
I myself regularly get called a GW2 fanboy and a TERA basher in this forum all the while I've been hated in the GW2 forum for bashing the game and praising SW:TOR, so it really is as if positive comments make you a fanboy and negative comments make you a hater. Fans of any respective game here are totally unable to withstand constructive criticism.
Well said Ganathar!
One can put this in so many different ways. Once you've realized this all by yourself, you start looking at each and every game differently and you enjoy them even more than if one hadn't.
An epiphany.
This happened to me with Kingdoms of Amalur.
L2P TERA combat:
I wasn't too keen on TERA at first, it wasn't until the later levels did my class get more interesting with more abilities, leaving the starter island and sampling the BRILLIANT PVP did my view of TERA change. The combat is just so good, especially for PVP with no lame lock on targetting.
Thinking of not getting Diablo III and getting this instead, I certainly had more fun in TERA then I did in the Diablo III beta.
and that is exactly what is wrong this days. forums turn into a drama paradise, fanboys V bashers. none of them do anything constructive.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a Tera fanboy. I love GW2 too. You can dodge there also yay. I will play both. First get my Tera toon to highest level and when I'm bored play a GW2 toon to max.
100% true
I find these thread kind of funny. People bashing and people whining about the bashing.
Oh dear. I guess it's too difficult to just play the game and don't shout to the world why you love/hate the game and how everyone who doesn't think like you is a fanboy/hater.
Tera needs to be B2P
i also entered this game expecting an asian type mmo but to my suprise i enjoyed my beta experiences alot, the game really opens up at level 20 with stigmas, and i've only managed to go to the first instance which we cleared but was quite challenging ( random group ) but im a PvP lover and i found the PvE elements of this game ( BAM / dungeons ) to be quite interesting because they are so challenging. The PvP is awesome due to combat but is average in design, still no BG's which i prefer because it will allow alot of World pvp even though im not sure if they have PvP rewards, personally we were ganked while fighting a BAM and they stole the kill from us, they're might not be rewards but atleast i'm getting that old WoW like feeling ( level 60 vanilla WoW ) of real world pvp and the most awesome thing is if you are skilled in this game i think it will offer a great amount of satisfaction.
I haven't decided to pre-order it yet or not for the headstart tomorrow ( EU version ) but it has been the best MMO i've played untill WoW 2004, but then again no decent mmo's have come out since then and Tera's release date is in the middle of Uni exam period. Anyway this is just my opinion of the game for whom ever it helps.
The headstart is not tomorrow, its the april 28th - damn!
www.play.com states its on the 26th of april if you pre-order and i was talking about EU Tera, anyway if i made a mistake i dont understand why its such a big deal.....my bad guys. -.-
Pretty sure thats a mistake, tomorrow is only for pre-character creation and name reservation. And yes I mean EU as well
my bad then mate, thanks for the info :] i wasn't aware.
So then, and correct me if I'm mistaken here, what you're essentially saying i, "I would play TERA if it were a completely different game"?
"designed for pre-pubescent teenagers"? Really? I can accept that you don't like the art style, but artistic style has nil to do with maturity level. Any truly mature human being knows that "gritty"and "realistic" =/= mature, and can accept that things outside the realm of their own preference can still be valid.
