Tera is a new mmorpg genre for us gamers if we look at p2p games. The reason why you don't want to try it out, is maybe fear of leaving your longtime experience of the "standard" combat in mmorpgs?
Tera isnt new.... its between Aions gameplay with Dragon nest combat...
Its not bashing when someone doesnt like the design direction of the game. I personally think the game would do a lot better if it disabled the Elin race and made the Elves, Castanic and Popori more masculine. Plus added more grittyness and mideval style art direction and then remove the kill 10 rats quest and finally remove the self rooting on combat animations. I would love to play the game and I would feel more immersed if the world felt more real and not looked like it was designed for pre-pubescent teenagers.
Neverwinter is doing all the things very similar to Tera and in a more traditional mideval fantasy way so thats where my action combat dollars will go. But I wish you all the luck in your game of choice.
So then, and correct me if I'm mistaken here, what you're essentially saying i, "I would play TERA if it were a completely different game"?
"designed for pre-pubescent teenagers"? Really? I can accept that you don't like the art style, but artistic style has nil to do with maturity level. Any truly mature human being knows that "gritty"and "realistic" =/= mature, and can accept that things outside the realm of their own preference can still be valid.
lol, yeah I would have to agree with you.
Sorry Zylaxx, I do think everyone has the right to their opinion but you are saying that the game would be better if it was a different setting.
I think the game would be different if it was a different settings.
The whole "thrust" of the settign is this weird over the top fantasy setting. It isn't a "game of thrones" setting. Changing the setting doesn't change the game play. Just the flavor that the game play marinades in. So to speak.
I also agree with FrostWyrm in that a gritty setting is not necessarily mature. I mean, loook at the conan universe, that's pretty gritty and very far from being any more mature than Tera.
Quite frankly, if one were to come from the outside one can make an argument that playing any video game is far from mature (and I know people who would very readily point this out).
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

it will fail
Tera is a game that has been westernized and it's not a f2p business model. Besides, they aren't Ncsoft developers. Why not compare the companies instead of being so short sighted of the whole thing. BHS made a game for asians and westerners.
Speaking of fail. A mmo can never fail. They win even if they have low amount of subscribers. It just depends what the developers are aiming for, "amaze factor", "lazy work to pay everything back and some profit" or "niche game".
Teras combat is amazing imo. The quests may seem lazy, but I believe that they lacked the fund to make them creative. I've heard that it gets better after 20+. Btw, the AI is also a wow factor. Is this a niche game? It might or might not be at the moment, but I think the tabbing will be forgotten in about 10 years or so. It will be remembered as pixels and created by indie devs but a little more advanced.
Come on... who doesn't think sometimes that a non-aim, lottery evasions, and heavily gear dependant games makes you think if you have become braindead? No /ragequit because someone else got luckier than you?
The fact that you feel like you need to defend the game should answer the question.
If you like it, then who cares if others bash it. Just play it and enjoy.
For me, i pre purchased and will play until GW2 or TSW comes out. I just dont find the game that compelling. I played to level 32 and didnt see the improvement others have talked about. The action combat does not make a game. Its the whole package.
But hey, its just my take on it. I've seen people diss games i thought were outstanding. they gave reasons i totally disagreed with....dont take it personal. just play and enjoy.

In fighting games, when you execute a combo/finisher move you can't interrupt it. If someone picked up a pair of snowballs and threw them at me, he has to make a new pair of snowballs. I played the prologue and yeah I died some times on the boss. It showed how much skill you need to play this game (and why I don't understand why Froggies made the game a 12+ rating). Slayer was by far the hardest. Slow-hitting class that depend on being on the frontline duking it out hard with swords. I felt like I never have before in an MMO. This mmo is challangeing me to beat it and that I will do.
So it doesn't have dynamic events... I've played Warhammer and it was fun until you stood there afk waiting for the loot. I'm sorry but games like WoW can be infested with bots doing dungeons with you. Healbot??? Where is the skill in this? I have been a healer for a long time and my IQ dropped when I tested this out. Why use something so dumb when if you know how to play games would do better without it. Where's the action in these tab games? Oh... click on mob or tab. No aim, just click one button and roll the dice. In these games, there were no way for melee with 2h to dodge an attack. All they did was charge in and rage like a crazy bull hunting people down but just landing some blows before they drop dead.
You guys have wanted something unsimiliar to WoW for a long time now and you are complaining to make it more like it now? What a hypocrisy.
So the questing is like a console game. Too linear. Mmorpgs needs to differiate from the consoles "kids" play. Dudes, I have played sandbox games. If you want a huge world where you go as you'd like and have a billion of quests, hook up with Bill Gates and make him lose all those money on scientists to make you your dream mmorpg. No man with sense would even think about making that feature in a game. Starting areas... sure. But did you know how short WoW was with zones in vanilla? All I did back then was PvP because the PvE sucked. It was a little world that was an illusion to you because you didn't get a mount until lv40 and the cap was lv60 (+ the two continents) and honestly the PvP system was much more appealing back then than it is now.
Why would you want to play an action style combat game with out actiona nd a perma root after every ability ill pass.
Normally i would agrue logically, but becuase the op feels he is entitled to just toss in random games their issues or his preception of them ill do the same. doesn't make me right just , wrong as he is.

Is it me, or did anyone else have a hard time going back to their other MMO combat system after the Tera OB weekend?
I logged on Aion last night and just couldnt stomach the combat, I kept thinking about my zerker on Tera and the named BAM i Soloed in the Basilisk area.
I logged on EQ2 and got on my healer to run a few dungeons and just couldnt take the boredom of spamming the same abilities without any real dynamics to the fight. Just stay in place the whole time and spam heals while looking at health bars. I kept thinking about my Priest in Tera, and how I would need to keep movement focused on my group in order to place AOE heals in the right area, and mitigate the big hits incoming on our Lancer tank.
People can say what they want about Tera, but alot good can be said about a combat system that leaves you wishing to play more. I even tried to log on my Tera launcher just in case they left a server up by accident

So you stand by and do nothing as people bash on things you like? Ya people is picking on your friend in school making them of them but you know no need to go defend him/her but you know all those things are false. Ya does everyone else know what you know? The whole point is to stop bashing is to other people will be willing to give their unbias try of the game, if they like it or not is up to them but many form a opinion based on what people say, and teh bashing is the easist band wagon to jump on.

I am not bashing the game but I will not purchase it and I don't think it will be a very successful title but thats just my opinion.
Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I used an xbox style controller or a ps3 style one but then it starts reminding me of dc universe onlne in how much the controls irritated me there.
How it is annoying on keyboard/mouse? i find using a controller much harder to use. Also Tera control is nothing like DCUO at all -.-

As i stated for about the 50th time lot of action combat game have root on every action. Monster hunter one of the best action combat stratgey game is almost identical to Tera combat. Also dark soul and demon soul and god eater burst all action combat with root. Heck street fighter have root as well.

Lol same i realised i couldn't play other mmorpg = not even dragon nest. it felt so empty when all i do is run the same instance over and over. also the way combat went in dragon nest felt worse because i feel like i'm flailing around like a fish out of water. Ironicly i can play maplestory because the game is so different it doesn't remind me of Tera lol.

Like most games it has its good points and bad points, to some people the good points out weigh the bad so they are willing to roll with the game, to others things like the quests out weigh the combat system and so over all they cannot get into the game. I love swtor's quest vo, cut scene system but Tera has some nice qualities that remind me a little of Shadowbane so I might consider it
Remember when you were like in midde school and the you started to want to emulate the high schoolers and the adults more?
Remember that kid who still wanted to play action figures, because he just wasn't as mature yet and didn't realize that now he was getting big/old enough to play with people? He still wanted to walk in the creek and get all muddy on the way to school or some other fun but childish thing.
Yeah -
That action figure kid is the one who wants to keep playing tab targetters.
He hasn't realized that all that kiddy BS crap was in place of and in preparation for the next step.
His friends will leave him, or he has to double up his efforts and get comfortable in the adult world.
OR HE GETS LEFT ALONE to play in the mud while the big boys learn to fight.

Haha - are you not aware of the definition of simplistic?
This is an "overly simple" reasoning.
I am not saying this is necessarily the case. I am just putting it out there, that if you aren't going to go forward with the combat, you can stay and play with the other people. But those of us who are ready to move on are moving on.
TERA is not perfect. BUT the combat is different from the other MMOS and in most objective ways is more difficult and engaging. In my opinion, it is vastly superior to the other MMOs out there. But that is my opinion.
You guys have wanted something unsimiliar to WoW for a long time now and you are complaining to make it more like it now? What a hypocrisy.

First, this game is not unsimilar to WoW except for the combat, which is very interesting, but it is the only feature that is different. Amazing huh?
I should remind you that the oldest and longest running sandbox game is still pay to play and still making a profit. Ultima Online. Eve Online is also doing incredibly well. So your comments about a sandbox MMORPG being a waste of money is ignorant.
I do not like Tera because it is worse than WoW... Maddeningly sad.
I did not read the quests due to them being so obviously the same thing and boring I was uninterested, so I skipped them simply because, well, "Hey! This is probably a go kill x quest." and it was.
Oh look buttons! Just like wow... shocking.... Except they're just a poor attempt at organizing how you activate your skills... They are trying to mix it up a little and call it "new". WoW's button system, and interface is superior because it is more simple. I would like to add that WoW is not my cup of tea, but the animations and the design of the game speak for itself. I find it an appealing "Online Game" for the lazy. It doesn't matter, it was well made. Tera showed no immediate depth and the lore is less than nothing in comparison to WoW.
Presentation is sorely lacking. This is probably what "online games" fail at the most. This games presentation of the prologue was sad... Slow (In performance), choppy, and most of all super boring. Reminded me of Wrath of the Lich King in WoW... This is somewhat of a common problem with Korean-like cookie cutter games. Ya, graphically they get better and better since Knight Online, but is it not obviously the same game?
The intro voice presentation and flying on whatever lacked tact, and any sort of timing or acting. The animations were choppy and boring... Who cares who is talking? I didn't care... Anyone care? Do we know these characters flying in? Do they matter? Do they die? What's the point?
The only thing about this post that chafed me was your blatant attack on sandbox games... It should be 'blatantly' obvious to anyone who pays attention that the very fact that Skyrim wiped the floor with Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare in sales, and continues to do so, speaks volumes about the desire for an actual RPG environment such as Skyrim. MMORPGs are suppose to 'represent' that environment but none of them do today, they are simply "online games." Developers continue to pump out this crap and after 7 years these games continue to fail repeatedly in hopes they are the next "WoW" game... People are not looking for a WoW clone, they are looking for originality, innovation, more advanced AI and immersion. If I wanted to play WoW I'd go play WoW. These games simply do not have it, and neither does Tera. The quality of Tera is subpar in comparison to a 7 year old game.
