are people dumb?

Its two part.  Yes people are incredibly dumb, more on this later.  Also, times have changed.  By this i mean beta is no longer a bug hunting task.  People play a buggy beta, it gains bad press, people shy away. 

Now beta should be renamed  "Preview weekend / Public stress test event"...this is what beta is.  Show off your product and get as many people crammed on a server to see how it preforms ect.  Beta has NOTHING to do with bug hunting and creating a polished release, they do this in house where it wont cause their paying public to nervous of the game launching buggy.

Other than performance tweaks that dont involve coding (setting max connections to server ect) nothing is going to change in between beta and launch.

Now to the dumb people.  People buy the hype before playing.  Get all worked up while investing strong emotions into the game.  They play their beta/launch.  Turns out the revolutionary game the developers said would change mmorpgs forever for the better is just the same concept they played in the last game.  Sure theres new ideas on how the old systems should work but it still feels like the same game.

These people branch out into two very entertaining categories.  The "in denial" and the "reality ragers"  who attempt to consume eachother in text flames.  Deniers say "everything will be diffrent at launch/endgame and it will be like the developers promised"  reality rager takes the "WFT lied to/game sucks/failure/refund" route.

And to package this all up nicely into "why people are dumb" they both decide to move on to the next unrealised game, where they instantly believe the game is going to revolutionize the industry....and so the cycle begins again.

i dont know why people think a game will someone magically improve and become awesome especially if the game is to be released within 1 month or so. devs can only make small fixes such as glaring bugs, imbalances, exploits. if the game runs like crap and lags it most likely because of the engine (the heart of the game). this cannot be "fixed" without pretty much remaking the game on a better engine.

i dont know why people bend over backwards when it comes to mmorpgs, why would you pay for something you dont know about because it was under NDA or you couldnt try it?
