Do you not think the ingredients storage in the bank specifically for cooking will suffice? I admit I haven't deved into cooking yet though I'd like to. Is it a case that like some of the crafting items, some ingredients don't fit in the collections tab?

Apparently from what I've read bank space is shared across your accounts.

So rolling an alt would not work.

For bank space anyways. You would have extra inventory space I suppose.

But if it is shared account wide, you wouldn't need to buy it 8 times for each character but instead only once per account.  I couldn't tell but did you include that factor in your calculations?  Also, don't most of the f2p games or at least the weastern ones have bag space unlocked per account rather than per character?  Maybe I'm off on that one.

The Bank slots are account shared.

The Bag slots are not. They would have to be purchased seperately for each character.

I also cannot take credit for the op. It was written by Valatar on the GW2 beta forums.

Many people raised a major point in my opinion.

In the usual MMO pay to play model (WoW, SW:TOR), if you stop paying, you are screwed, you can't play anymore at all.

In GW2, you may miss some confort options (more char slots, more bags, more bank slots) BUT you can still log in and enjoy the game until you are able to spend money on the game again. It is YOUR rythm.

As long as the cash shop doesn't become "pay to win", this model is better than the monthly sub model for the player, since he will never be locked out of the game even if he has a hard real life pass where he'd rather not spend money on a video game.

I just dont understand people that want everything for free and on top of that have a really bad attitude. If I like this game I will happily spend my money on it so they can keep making it better.

OP, you are the kind of person that believes that you have to have everything available even if you don't need it.

So for example, in League of Legends are you the kind of person that must have all the Rune Pages unlocked, all the available Champions and every single build possible stored just to be competitive.

Your Must Haves aren't really Must Haves for everyone.

In beta, the amount of storage available is enough for normal PVE, I only had to go back twice to sell off items. And thats with only one bag. I don't know what you are doing or what you have against going back to town to resupply and sell items, but normally you do go back atleast once or twice to buy new weapons, do some crafting and sell off some items.

Do you really have to have all 8 character spots opened, are you really gonna play 8 characters, how many hours in a day do you have to spend on playing your games.

If they had only 2 character spots then yes, it might be necessary because people do get up to 3 characters, but they are giving you 5, and you only have to pay if you want more than 5.

I just don't understand this mentality of I have to have all 8 character slots open and all bag spaces open when its not a MUST HAVE.

I am going to spend 10$ a month just to support Anet and it will STILL be cheaper than any subscription game.

That is, of course, unless I can't find 10$ worth spending in the market.

I'll probably buy gems to convert to gold if nothing else.

I work, a lot, I have lots of money IRL...

I'm tired of being broke in MMOs (like WoW/TOR) because I don't have 40 hours a week anymore to farm and craft.

Besides, a subscription feels more like a tax to play the game now... where as the GW2 shop feels like I am investing in the game, the company, and my future within the game.

  • Four0SixFour0Six Member UncommonPosts: 1,175

The OPs post, IS a valid agument.

There ARE "hidden" cost's to GW2, ANET has even said they need a constant cash flow.

  • zimboy69zimboy69 Member UncommonPosts: 395

the most this game should cost you is and extra £50 (or £20  or less if you wait  )

if you are seriously running out of space make a alt

if you run out of alts then buy a new account then you will have at least 15 more bag spaces  plus the  bank account for  the account

    5 additional character slots

and your friend could play for free   to check the game out

so unless your really after  costumes or minis there isnt any reason to  spend any more than  the cost of a new account

and as games drop in price very very quickly    you could probably pick up gw2  in 6 months for less than £20

Extra bag space? Who cares. Just means you need to instantly teleport back to town 30% quicker than someone who buys the slots. Must be such a pain to instantly teleport back to town and then instantly teleport back to where you were adventuring.

Well said.  My thoughts exactly.  I just want 3 extra character slots for the other 3 classes so I can have 1 of each.  Bag space has only ever been an issue in 2 games for me.  FFXI and Lotro and FFXI was the worst and it was due to their stupid PS2 limitations.  In Lotro, even they had a limitation for some reason, but they worked to make a wallet so as to free up half your bag space from tokens and marks.

With merchant NPCs everywhere and instant teleport, if my bag is full I just sell the junk.  There IS bank space in the game that I can use for crafting mats and other stuff.  I think only packrats, those who collect every little item, will have any issues, but then, they have issues in every other MMO they play as well, so go figure.

Point is, this stuff is still optional and not mandatory.  Claiming otherwise, even if one individual considers these things mandatory, is pathetic and a blatant attempt to discredit GW2.

Another useless atempt to badmouth the game through meaningless "hidden evils". -.-

It's like the people that went in the beta for one hour and immediately jumped into the forums starting "boo hoo" threads with "I was cheated, give me my money back, omg that's a beta and I payed for it" among other stupid things.

I was a level 7 - 8 charr, had reached the black citadel and had already crafted me 8 slots bags on my own without spending anything.

Don't quite remember but I think we can hold around 10 bags in overall?

That would be 80 slots without spending anything else than a few coins on the material npc and crafting monster drops to leather or other materials to combine them with them and craft the bags at the end.

Yes the bank slots are limited unless you unlock more and they are going across all your characters which I think its a good thing cause you can just add stuff there for your second character and he/she just picks it up and starts through with them.

Still plenty of room and since every character can carry so much, you won't need the bank slots a lot anyway.

So in overall, you have plenty of room. Armor and weapons you equip are not using extra slots on your back either (unlike some other games).

As about character slots, yeah we have 5 races and for that we got 5 slots. It's a fair deal.

Not everyone will play all professions and even the ones that will do overtime, it will be months if not a year before they go through the whole game with their 5 first characters.

There was a other topic of a guy that wrote a possible estimate including exploring the whole world+ all dungeons+ all events back and forth+ hidden areas by the huge world we have, it would be around 1000 hours per character and that without exploring the whole pvp parts of the world or even playing it.

    Now do the math 1000 x 5 characters = 5000 hours (roughly)

I would say for the 49€ I payed for the game + beta access + 3 days headstart + in game item, that's A LOT of entertainment compared to what we get from console, pc and other mmo games that you need to pay more for less content, less fun and in many cases rather frustration than fun.

I guess that after the people couldn't get the blaming  on their "gw2 is p2w" threads through and got proven wrong when it comes to the boosts and keys, they are starting to attack now character slots, server transfers and other stuff.

Can you guys be ANY cheaper?

Just a small info in case you didn't notice in the beta, the npcs you finishing the dynamic event, are opening a kama store for you to spend the through the event earned kama to buy items.

Not sure if you can sell by all of them but the ones I came across you could also sell items too so there is no need to run back to the town if you wanna have more space. :)

Crafting 8 slots bags is also very easy and you can do it immediately after you reached the town and learned the profession so space is not a problem at all.

Yep,  I'll probably spend at most during a year  will be about 50 dollars.  Plus you have to pay upfront to even get that deal from TERA.  What about the months I might not play.  Wasted money.  At least with GW2 when I purchase something I will be using it right then and there.

Realistically speaking, how many people going to level 8 classes to 80? Personally, I may level 1 or 2... but 8? That's an crazy. Maybe, if I decide to play GW2 for the next 5 years.

Level them to max perhaps not, however you're not given the space to even try them besides make them and delete them.

Also about the guy mentioning bag space as industry standard, I will have to disagree. There is no industry standard in bag space, your game and its needs dictate the bag space you need (along with the gameplay, although players can work around some limitations, for example by using mule characters. Looks like the mule characters will need to make dummy guilds to gain more space per account in GW2).

Personally I'd be more inclined to buy a digital collectors edition that offered full bag and character slots than what is now offered. What is now offered only worth the standard edition for me personally.

That's basically what me and hubby are doing.  Digital Deluxe didn't have anything extra we really wanted so we bought Digital basic and are going to spend what we saved in the cash shop to get  what we want.  No reason for them to come up with all kinds of editions - just make your own.

I agree with you in informing others regarding whats in the Cash Shop, but in your post you are stating that these items are Must Have, items that you can't play without!!

Which isn't true!! Let others decide if these items are required for them to play properly.

For a item to be Hidden Costs, they have to be only available to be seen once you buy the game, Anet prior to the Pre-purchase, already stated that Character Slots will be in the Cash Shop, Bank and Bag slots will also be in the Cash Shop. We the gamers just didn't know how many Bank Slots and Bag slots we start with and how many character slots we start with.  None of these items are hidden as you stated.

And Yes I finally realized that I can sell my items immediately after completing some heart quests, and it made my journey so much easier, because I didn't need to buy any more bags, and I just kept the one that I got from the very beginning. The gathering tools also dont take space, after you equip them, they are equipped and no longer in your inventory space.

Oh yes, I have a lifetime in LOTRO too (which is the only reason why I'm still occasionally playing). I was just pointing out an option that wasn't available in "pure" F2P games. LOTRO is an hybrid.
