I just wanted to pull a couple of lines of DSWBeef's list of game features that kind of summarize the complaints everyone has been offering;
1.) "Recreating the freedom Elder Scrolls players expect within the World of Warcraft-style mechanics Zenimax Online is using for this MMO would be impossible without changing the way that players interact with the world."
^ This of course is damning, using WoW as the paradigm for the game system. If only, as other users have pointed out, because it set's a precedent and gives an impression. What impression and precedent? As Seven of Nine might say, Irrelevant.
My personal opinion, I shall preserve.
Huge seamless continent???
Huge seamless continent: good / bad ?
Lol, I am not providing an opinion here so much as offering a viewpoint. It's damning BECUSE it brings a preconceived notion to the table. What that notion is, depends on the observer.
In your case, I would assume "huge seamless continent" rocks your socks. Which is awesome!
I don't know if TESO has any of these. This is just the general list of feature need to be classified a WoW clone.
Tab Targeting & Keyboard Activated Abilities (aka face roll) w/wo GCD all of which is AKA MMORPG combat.
Quest leveling that often takes months or years, as apposed to sandbox that takes hours or days.
Crafting w/wo interdependency, any additional work where gear and consumables are not handed to the player. Like in console FPS and so called sandbox games.
A Level Design, Polygon Count, & Art Style that facilitates a MMO, as apposed to one that is often found in a console shooter that supports 64 concurrent players or less.
PvE content w/wo instancing that requires player character interdependency to accomplish (AKA Holy Trinity)
PvP that is limited or controlled in anyway to be consensual.
Any game that doesn't look, feel, or play like Grand Theft Gears of Modern Halo Duty. Some may say I am attacking console fans. I say after reading this same thread again and again for the past 12 years I have a true understanding of the question.
SWG pre-CU/NGE had everything on that list to be categorized a WoW clone, but it still considered the last great sandbox, why? Because it had Macro Leveling that could be done in 3 to 5 day.
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
1 yes (although sounds more like gw2 and tsw than wow combat wise) 2 no, there are NO QUEST HUBS 3 who knows, but the 3 games the devs are coming from uo, daoc & tes all have more complex & useful crafting than wow 4 what mmo, I don't get why that's "wow clone", you could apply that to eve for instance. 5 no agro mechanics, no tanks, EQ style open dungeons 6 well its a very daoc like rvr system, I'm not sure where that fits, its not grind instances for tokens to get gear sets like wow, but its not sandbox like eve either, its kinda in between. To me its more tes like than wow in that its out in the open and player action effect the world VIA territory held etc..

Sounds far more similar to DAoC going off the limited amount of information we have about it than it does WoW.
hahahahahahahahaha it's funny because it's true.
but... CLEARLY DAOC is a WoW clone too!
Wait... it came out a year and a half prior to WoW?
uh.... oh no.... world collapsing around me... What ever shall this hater do now!? I'M MELLLLLTINNNNNGGGG!!!!!
(heh)
This is why TESO will fail because it takes all of what made Elder Scrolls games great and trades them in for basic WoW mmo generic features.
Grim Dawn, the next great action rpg!
