Don't know about 7 years, but I still think this game will be forgotten 3-6 months after release.
That's just a really bad prediction, based on what really? That the game is better in every aspect than all MMO's out there? Or maybe that it's sub-free?
GW2 is perfectly forged for broad audience, mainstream as design guidance, so it would be consumed like any other mainstream product, 3-6 month top.
I didn't said GW2 will flop, Anet will earn more than enough.

What are you trying to say? WOW is mainstream, it has 12 million players and it's 8 years old.

That's right, WoW is 8 years old and with 12 million players, GW2 still not released.

You said that GW2 will be forgotten in 3-6 months. That's like saying people will stop drinking water in 3-6 months. So NOONE will play GW2 in 3-6 months? Is that after release or counting from today?
In seven years I hope there is something new and better. But I also would rather see GW2 clones than more WoW clones.
But I don't have Blizzard for WoW clones. WoW is a fine game for what it tries to be, though that's changed over the years, but the reason you have so many clones are that most investors won't drop money on a risk or an untried idea in MMOs for some reason, and most people can't come up with decent MMO plans, which might help explain the first thing. I hate those companies for not trying to come up with their own thing or do something different. I just don't get that in the first place though. Why try to copy WoW? You are going to have the same ideas, but not done as well. What makes you think people are going to flock to your game when you do that?
But yes, we will almost certainly see GW2 clones with GW2 blows away all the other MMOs releasing this year (yes, this is just my prediction). And I will hate those companies for not trying something new, because they will just do the same thing as GW2, but not as well, the same as we have seen with WoW. It's sad, really.

GW 2 is not going to get anywhere close to WoW in terms of its significance to MMO industry, in my opinion.
Is GW 1 hated after so many years? I dont know, I have not heared anyone speaking about it for years...it will be similar for GW 2, in my opinion.
WoW was significant to the MMO genre? WoW was an indie game which now struggles to barely keep its servers running lol. I doubt any non-MMO gamers have even heard of WoW.
Considering that an entire South Park episode was dedicated to WoW not to mention all of the WoW references in shows like Big Bang Theory, I'd say many non-MMO gamers have heard of WoW and it's probably the main reason that the genre has such a huge player base these days.
Dont forget The Simpsons episode as well
Besides that, I believe that GW 2 may last for 7 years, I just do not think that people will have reason to hate it since it will not set the course for future MMO's like WoW did. I just do not believe that MMOs will copy this game for another decade.
(I always state that it is a subjective opinion since I do not want to look like I am promoting it as objective truth...I would not dare to do so)
I understand that this is all your subjective opinion, but I would love to hear some indepth detail as to why you think this game won't make any sort of impact on the genre. Just for future reference.
I'm honestly curious about this. Guild Wars 2 seems to be resonating heavily with what the MMO community in general desires. It seems like it'll be a very successful game. What would happen if GW2 becomes the new MMO standard? Basically, the successor to WoW? Do you think that seven years from now we'll be complaining about how every MMO out there is a "GW2 Clone" just like we do today with "WoW clones"?
Please, they are already drinking the hate-orade and complaining about GW2 like they did WoW... However in 7 years I most certainly will not be playing GW2. I'll stay with a game for 4.5-5 years at best and then I'm out. I have never seen a game that kept my attention for 7 years and though I'm really liking GW2 I doubt I'll give it 7 years.
As far as it being the standard, well I would'nt say I see that happening. I mostly see it as being the game that broke the mold. Now it forces these other developers to think outside the box and give the audience more than the norm.
When I see GW2 now, I see a compilation of what people have been looking for in a game. Nothing new that would be considered ground shattering, although they did put a bit of a spin on things in their own way.
Only fools will ever hate the things that gave them pleasure once
Does this go for ex-girlfriends, ex-boyfriends, ex-wives, and ex-husbands too? Hate's a pretty strong word to use for an ex OR a game, in my opinion, but....some do, ya know. Edit: Oh you said THINGS. Well then nevermind. lol
