"It is not related to pedophilia. It's just part of the culture to have small, little girls that run around smiling. People just find it normal,"

That's culture for ya. Very interesting how things are persived in different parts of the globe.

I don't see anything pedophilia about elins, to me they are like female gnomes asian style. People really need to get a life, you act like kyle's mom from southpark.

I do think (from the vids and screenshots I've seen) that the Elin do look somehow ''too damn sexualised''... almost pedophilic.

    But than again, I don't really give a f*ck.

I posted here to say that i think if the majority of the playerbase are fine with it, than it should stay IMO.... As long as no kids are getting hurt of this $hzzt in real life, im okay with it.

There is no way my daughter gets out of the house with that short of a dress. And I'm not a hypocrit, so yeah......

Then again, Im not taking up the crusade against it either. It's sort of in the "meh" zone for me.

As I have said before it all really is perception. All I saw when first trying the game and seeing the Elin was a cutesy little race that I would never play, same for the popori. However I did end up making a popori and now quite like the race.

Being in the Navy, I have spent a lot of time in several different asian countries. The sexualization of young girls IS  a part of their culture. It has nothing to do with being cute, or innnocent, it is ALL about sexualization.

There is a vending machine in the Osaka International airport that dispenses little schoolgirl panties in plastic break-apart globes. The machine has stylized depictons of Japanese school girls all over it. I watched a seemingly normal Japanese business man walk up to it, and purchase a pair. Right in front of everyone. This was not considered strange.

First off, fuck censorshitp.  The only person on this planet capable of determining what kind of media I can or can't see is me.

Second I don't think it's the fact that it's little girls running around smiling, it's scantily clad little girls running around smiling in G-Strings that did it.  If that's normal, in Korea, so be it, I'm not gonna judge. It's not even real, it's just a cartoon.  If I ever had my head so far up my ass to be offended by a video game, I just wouldn't play it.

That would definately not fly here. I understand that is the way things roll over there, but I don't expect to see anything like that here anytime soon.

Even if they were Cindy Crawford's underwear that would still be the wierdest shit ever.

What's even stranger is that there is such a demand for something like that they need the convience of a vending machine for it!?  What the fuck do they do with them? Wait..no I don't want to know...

Parents should be the censor for their children, it should not be the place of society to watch kids for parents.

Elin censorship doesn't make any sense anyway. I mean, they say small girls in panties are a no go, so they decide to change their outfits and what do they do? They let them wear HOTPANTS.

Seriously what changed? Nothing. If they're too revealing, cover them up but by changing panties into hotpants you don't achieve anything.

Yes, I have kids. It's my job to determine what they can't see. It's not up to the rest of the world to raise my kids for me.  One is 16 and he's mature enough to decide for himself now.   They only place I draw the line is shit like kid porn, where the production of the material is literally ruining the entire life of someone that doesn't have a choice in the matter.  In that case the evil of censorship is nothing compared to the hideous crime of an abused kid.

I am told that Japanese society is so formal and repressed, that over the years behavior like this has developed as a result. Apparently, a lot of weird shit is acceptable behind closed doors, and is seeping into mainstream society, just as long as you don't talk about it. The proliferation of online worlds where you can spend time anonymously makes it tempting for game developers to offer choices like the Elin for certain types to drool over.

Anyway, people who like to pretend that it isn't what it is are ignorant, or unable to admit the truth.

EDIT: I know that Tera is Korean, I just use the Japanese as an example because that's where I spent most of my time. I have been to South Korea, and as far as I could tell, it was very similar in attitude.

Isn't the whole censorship about people determining what their kids can and cant see? I mean, you pretty much agreed to it right there.

Personally, Im more for the "if you dont want them to see it, keep them from playing", rather than go all-out and make the developers change the game. Im guessing this is what you meant as well?

    Public Flyers?  Advertisements?

    what are you talking about?

Do you see overly sexualized children on flyers and adverts all the time?

Why is it society's job to concern itself with how you raise YOUR child, you made the choice to have one, you have to take the responcibility to raise it right.

    Please do so, thanks.

So you would be OK with a huge billboard advertising hardcore porn right across the street from where your kid waits for the school bus?

Saying that you're "against censorship" is all fine and dandy, but use some common sense.

Your hypothetical is an impossibility, and its an outlandish far fetched one at that.

We as a society don't like having those sorts of things plastered everywhere, we don't let Porn be shown on billboards.

You are offering up a situation which will never occur.

Edit:  In before you say common decency is somehow censorship.

    I have a daughter.   She's 1.

I'm obviously protective with her to an extent.        As a parent, it's instinct to protect your child.    That being said,  it's my responsibility, not anyone else's.  There are 6+billion people on the planet that all see things their own way, and I would be a very unrealistic person if I expected them all to change based on my personal beliefs of what my daughter should experience.

That being said, cencorship is frakking stupid indeed.    Esp. when it comes to entertainment.  no...  not especially...  I take that back.  All together, cencorship being done by a regulatory entity instead of people themselves being responsible for what they or their children experience is shitty.

In regards to TERA -  Yes, I have experienced asian culture as it is part of my own heritage.    In other countries, the simple fact of the matter is a lot of things are sexualized, because sexuality is a natural aspect of humanity.   EU and US try to avoid that fact and hide it and mask it with smiles, rainbows, and good manners... but it's still part of us, and the rest of the world take advantage and sell it.       TERA is nothing to even raise an eyebrow at in places like Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, etc..

I understand people's discomfort with the Elin.         All I can say to them is, don't play the game then.    Don't spend any of your time or effort stressing over what other people find entertaining or enjoyable, and move on with your life.

Personally, I don't play Tera.    I am intrigued by the graphics and combat but I don't find it worth monthly fee.

The Elin make me laugh.    Just like gnomes.

The whole game is obviously painted in a sexual or sensual light, and that's fine by me.   Online games with a monthly fee that requires a credit card should start to offer more adult oriented content anyways.    That being said, since the whole feel of the game is sexual anyways, I take that with a grain of salt and put it in the "lore" section of my brain and continue to focus on things that matter a little more to me like GAMEPLAY.

It has nothing to do with agreement. It's a fact just like the sun is going to rise tomorrow. Asian culture sexualizes young girls. I lived there, and saw it with my own eyes. I am also sure that horses exist because I have seen those too. You cannot argue this, it is not a matter of opinion.

EDIT: Also, the word "ignorant" just means that you are unaware of something. I would say that 90% of Americans are ignorant of actual Asian culture beyond what Anime and Manga show. It's not meant to be an insult.

You are generalizing, this is always, always, always, wrong.

Please consider the fact that though you may have experienced living in a part of asia, to assume that you know the minds and hearts of ohhhh 4 billion + people and their society is downright wrong.
