Very satisfying to me. The over-all environment was rather engaging and entertaining for a dungeon diver like me to find great pleasure out of playing. As a fan of Diablo 2 I was disapointed with the dumbing down of the mechanics, but in the end it wasn't that huge of an 'ick' factor to me. I'd say putting pros/cons
Pros:
1.) Fun Dungeon Crawling Combat
2.) Interesting story development (gives a more action feel in many sections)
3.) Random events provide extra challenge while normally partying.
Cons:
1.) Ending is a bit... lackluster. Felt like it should of done more.
2.) A bit to far dumbed down, itemization as of now seems a bit iffy making pure stat items generally best
3.) Relatively short. Under 12 hours of gameplay going straight through from start to end.
If you enjoy dungeon crawlers and those old style click away games, you probably will enjoy this more then you expect even with them taking a lot of the rpg elements into the casual level.

You haven't finished it until you've done it on every difficultly really.. thats why you need to unlock them. It will start taking much longer than 12 hours each time to finish it as it gets harder. I know people that have taken 'at least' 5 hours on just act 1 though, so you must have intentionally been aiming straight for the end?
Really? I remember buying Diablo 2 less than 5 years ago..yeah late comer. I played hours...at least 30 or so....and never even finished the first part. I even bought the additional content. Never got to touch them. Can't imagine how long the total content would ahve taken. Not to mention the re-playability of that game and online community for co-op...which I never delved into. I believe it's surprisingly strong even now.
Now Diablo 3 finally comes out and its 12 hours of playtime. Bam. That's it.
Please tell me this is bullshit.
At least i can always go back and restart D2.
The only difference from begining to end with difficulty is... just that... difficulty. All the other elements remain the same. I purposely didn't even mention how hard it was to take that factor out, just covering the whole experience from begining to end. I'm a dungeon crawler fan (can't even tell you how many times I ran through torchlight to name the most recent) and its all the same going through, you can't really try and claim going through again is some big change cause its not. You will have all the skills by the end (runes of course not) which pretty much gives you a big idea about the gameplay for a class.
12 hours is just how long normal took and its going to probably take longer for those less hardcore. Harder difficulties likely won't increase the time so much to get through the story (just the added length in killing stuff is pretty much the only thing that makes it longer) the biggest thing that will change is the speed at which you level which will likely get you playing through some chapters a few times through.
Thats not good.. That was too dam fast
And this cost how much?

Over 10 years of waiting for 12 hours of game-play? That's just...just..well... it's something!

The real question is, how did you play? Did you scour every nook and cranny of each area or did you just go in a straight line to the quest objectives and bypass all the side stuff? I can see it not taking long if I played that way, but that makes the game boring, who would want to do that. What level did you get to in this 12 hour finish?
Friend finished it in about 13-14 hours by searching every area on the maps. So OPs 12 hours might be for a full clear also if he played more intensivley.
I got Torchlight 2, maybe if they get rid of the DRM and put thit on sale, I'll get this, but as it is, it doesn't seem worth 60 dollars.
What? If he likes Diablo and could play it today why wait to play it next week? Doesnt make sence what you just said.

I am near the end of Act 2, got to find some guys blood and I have spend just shy of 11 hours (one character), so theres more than 12 hours, it depends how you play. Looks like I'll get about 20 hours out of my first play through, then I have co-op and additional difficulties to further level up and get abilities.
Well, then...I must be a very different gamer than some of you folk. Makes me wonder what enjoyment that type gets out of RPGs considering they are about immersion and story, not rushing to the end. Ah well, I'm enjoying it and I'm only level 10 and played for about 6 hours today.
I guess 20 hours is a little better, how is the co-op, same campaign or do they change it up in MP?

It's pretty sad that expecting the player to run the same exact content over to get any kind of long-term gameplay out of a title is becoming an accepted development philosophy.
I confess I haven't played D3 much today, but to me the game just feels lackluster and shallow. Even the soundtrack is "off". Actually, this feels more like a few steps backwards instead of an improvement over Diablo II. Right now, I'm looking at a Collectors Edition and the Special Edition Guide (both out of stock) and wondering if I should even take the wrappers off.

Kill the casual before he lays eggs o_O
it took me 9 hours to beat act 1 guess im slow
Immersion and story?
In a Diablo game?
HNNNGGGGGG
Same as single player though the more in the game the more health and hitpoints mobs have, bigger mob group, they hit harder etc. all the randomness of dungeons, mobs, events and loot is still there.
You will need to play through the game several times to see all the dungeons and events. Also factor in the extra difficultiy levels etc and the perma-death mode if you dare. At the hightest difficulty all mods are atleast1 level higher than you all the time and yes you will get oneshot.
Yesh I thought my 6 and half hour was slow.. you win
My guess is that OP powerballed through everything. He's a self-proclaimed Diablo / Dungeon crawler head so he's pretty advance at how to crawl mindless through stuff. I can't see you actually exploring through the entire realm. Collecting the lore books and all that achivement stuff.
Thing about Diablo has always been about running through on harder difficulties so I disagree with you there OP. You run though the difficulties and while trying to get the phattest gear you can for your toon. If you honestly did that all within 12 hours then more power to you, but more than likely that isn't so.
I'm not saying that it is not at all possible to run through the game in 12 hours, but there's no way you are truly going to cover the breath of the game in that amount of time. You should probably take a little more time to enjoy the game imo, but maybe speedballing is your crack.. again no problem with that..
Just that your opinion is probably not that of the average to high-end Diablo player may experience. There's always Hardcore setting. You could do that and run thru by yourself and tell us how long it took you to complete on Insane.. LoL
How's that sound?
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
what a waste of money.
guess im bad at video games
Heh , we got a bad ass over here :P.
Yea ,any game is short when you go straight from start to end and skipping all the side stuff. By next month we'll have rushers and you'll probably be able to do Norm to Hell in under 5 hours , D2 Style , that's how 99.9% of people play Diablo. Anyways my precious Torchlight 2 is coming out soon and I can't wait !! Enjoy D3 though!
