It's way past my bedtime, but after playing in this Beta wekend, i have to say I'm pleseantly surprised, the storytelling isn't overdone, you can skip though it if you'd like, the combat could use a little bit of love, but aside from twitch it's always going to be same ol situation. Thank god though its better than the total and utter button smashing that seems ever present in nearly all MMO's these days.
But all that jazz aside, what really made me smile, were a few of the quests, and the puzzles involved. For the love of God TSW made me actually think about how to solve a few things, I had to try different strategies, I had to go to Google in the game and research some things for my Kingsbridge History of the Illuminati quest, I had to approach a poisonous pool in a few different ways so it wouldnt kill me, I had to use some logic to turn off an electrical grid, and when "hacking" into a doctor's computer, i got a hint, the answer was (POTENTIAL SPOILER) a classical music composer, and it tied directly into how he'd felt about his wife. Just blew me away.
Hats off FunCom, hats off, if you can deliver the rest of the content in TSW the same way, and at the same quality, I'll let the little things go.
As for everyone who's looking for something a little bit more, have a go. Cheers
Edit: I also wanted to say that the music effing rocks! You go into the diner, and there's a radio playing, or you visit a dude in a kate park, and he's listening to some form of hardcore or metal or whatever. It's just wow!

SPOILER ALERT:
Don't know, hint: Music of the Seasons.
Answer Vivaldi... Is that supposed to be a challenge?
But the one thing that gets me, button mashing? I found this to be a button masher far more then say WoW/Lotro/SWTOR. Attacks are extremely short so you have to hit them over and over again.
I fail to see how this game is not about smashing keys. I tried a couple of weapons and they all are about the same few skills you just hit over and over again. No strategy no tactics. Only time I died was with one fire using civil war zombie and when I needed to for one quest.
I REALLY would like to know what people like so much about TSW and AoC (pretty simmilar limitted skills which aren't very intresting you hit a lot) and then STILL fail to actually play it?
There are some intresting things in TSW but the combat is not one of them. Which is a pitty since so far it is also the only thing to do.
It's fun to read people posting "is THAT supposed to be a challenge?!" to stuff they know, and "that's not difficult, it's just a stupid riddle, poorly made" to the stuff they don't know We will see a lot of that after launch
it is a sad day in the adventure game buisness when googling a composers name blows people away... there a much better quests in this game than that one
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
If you had never heard about this particular piece of music -how do you know what you are googleing for? How do you know you are supposed to google it? Not every quest is googleable (yet). There are lots of people ingame who are stuck on this one. It's solveable, sure, but far from obvious for many people.
Combat - yes in thebeginning you only have a few skills so you press them 3 buttons. But later on its all about builders which will show a bit of the skill needed. But people will Get to see this before launch and then make up their own mind.
you get two hints Music of the seasons and a number. I plugged both into google and vivaldi came up.. doesn't take much. They give you an ingame browser for a reason. Just saying some other quests in this game actually make you search around or think a little bit I just didn't find this one to be one of them

yea I enjoyed following the notes it was erie and soothing at the same time.. for combat it does end up boiling down to basic builder spam --> finisher rotation though even at the higher tiers.. I'm ok with it it's not great but the amount of options you can choose from the skill wheel makes it a little more interesting..

this quest is not an investigation mission... it is from the story mission, I doubt funcom is going to put the hard ones in the story quest..
If you played more than 12 hours and don't know yet why people like TSW, it's because it is not going to be a game for you, better luck next time =D
I'm enjoying my time, even though this beta build have like 0,01% of the mechanics and content that is allowed in the closed beta build.
I'd wager that many people will not get a 4 seasons reference, and I'm sure there will be a lot of "resort" answers. Either way, this and the illuminati quest were thus far super fun! It's not for everyone, but I like the adventure-esque riddles, etc... I doubt most younger players will enjoy this part of the game, and that's fine by me. At the same time it's also rated M.
As for the button smashing, well... I hooked up my XBOX controller to XPadder and I play that way, occasionally touching the keyboard. Fo some blasphemous, and prob not the best for PvP, but I'm having fun, which in a way, is really the most important thing. Right?

Im not sure as it being adult specific, however i sure as hell know the ADD kiddies and young adults will treat this game like the plague.
It was just so great to play a game where your not rushed to progress so you can start grinding your endgame gear before everyone else so you can own them in pvp when they do start to grind for their gear ect.
Sick of games being a damn race.
Ill go one step further, this game requires you to really use your head. 90% of complaints I see or supposed "bugs" are due to player ignorance/stupidity. But these low IQ individuals tend to think they are just as smart as everyone and cry on the forums how the game is broke, when the truth of it is they are too stupid to understand. Kudos to Funcom for making an "intelligent" game. Lets stop the cycle of dumbing games down to the IQ of most players.
And on the other end, they make those of somewhat average intelligence somehow think they're fucking geniuses because they can use Google or follow insignias on sewer lids.

haha i cracked up on this one.. true the game does require a "little" more thinking than other MMOs but its hardly what I would call hard or brain intensive from the content I have played so far that is. But it's still a good time and differn't enough from the rest to not feel a constant surge of deja vu flow through me

Have to agree. The game does require more brain power than your standart mmo, but this whole "TSW is for smart people" is starting to get has pathetic has SOME of the GW2 cultists who think their game will "change the genre" and whatever.
I agree that the real challenges are the ARG's that surpass the Investigation Missions - which makes sense, obviously: you don't want only 1 in every 500 players only be able to solve the implemented ingame puzzles, that's what the ARG's are for where whole guilds and factions are supposed to work together to solve them, hooking into various disciplines and areas of knowledge expertise.
However, compared to the hand-holding and no-brains-required questing that's common in most MMO's, TSW's questing as a whole is certainly several steps above that. Which is refreshing indeed in a time where general quest philosophy seems to be that they should be as easy to finish as possible, with only combat as the challenge, and no use of thinking required.
The challenge of missions aside, this game is just not made for kids. There are lots of mature references. I was a little shocked myself the other day when a possessed female mob walked near screaming, "F*ck me! F*ck me! F*ck me!"
I did enjoy the limited hand holding style of questing while playing TSW. I would want to play this game with the chat turned off so that the community has little to no chance of spoiling my game play.
Just like in this thread, there are far too many people that want to show off their epeen with leet skills, sarcasm, and super smarts.
Look at it this way folks. People might actually learn things from playing this game. It would be a shame to dismiss this game so quickly or discourage someone from playing because they had to look something up.
How are we going to maintain an MMO friendly world when the community attacks each other for things like this?
Yes OP, the game is meant for adults and the content has not been reduced to the lowest common denominator. I do fear that the adult theme will become a haven for the usual immature riff raff that pollute the chat windows and the content might encourage it more.
I wasnt saying you had to have an IQ of 150 to play, but the avg 80 IQ players that seem to be the majority of human beings these days, are going to struggle mightily and rage.

I have enjoyed my time testing TSW over the last few weekends.. did not have much time over the last one but still had fun..
Quests are pretty good and refreshing, story was pretty good from what we got to see, graphics are awesome, combat system works just as well as any other tab target game...
I think my only little let down was some of the combat animations but its not the end of the world..
I think this game will appeal to adults (18+) simply because most of us have played 1000 games with almost the same levelling and class system. My first one was pokemon on gameboy. Never played anything with this skill and fighting-system before.
For 8-14 year old children I can understand that it's still fun to boom up to max-level as fast as possible, but for mature people it's more about the gaming experience and setting. Mature people will also understand faster the mathemathics behind the fighting system than children, and thereby much of the joy is gone. I haven't played PvP in TSW, but from what I belive now, this is going to be much more complicated and more tactical than anything I've tried.
My expectations are sky-high!! Looking forward to release
I think we will see a relatively smallish but devoted fanbase to this game. It's certainly not for everyone. Im going to go ahead and predict thatthis game is going to have a better community than most. It may take a little while, but I think we will see a strong community here.

Funcom has always made their games for adults. AO had nipples and fowl language...so did AoC only to an extreme.
It didnt help those games much either. I really wish a company that knew how to actually make decent games would do it instead of just Failcom.

you realise ofc it is a double bluff, its not really aimed at adults at all, its aimed at children with an enticing 'adult theme' i.e do adults really care about nipples...
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
Both games had adult ratings...so yeah...game makers dont want a rating like that unless they dont care if a store is actually going to enforce it and lose a sale to a kid. As for nipples...yeah, a lot of adult gamers loved it.
