Interested in seeing peoples thoughts on this one...
LMAO... great poll.
I really do hope that sometime in the future, maybe in an expansion down the road, we get mounts. However, I would not want flying mounts; it somewhat ruined wow for me.
i fear the humorous options will destroy the poll's utility!
agreed... in this thread, I view the poll as a humurous way at looking at the topic. I voted for Charr as mounts, so I guess I wasn't very helpfull haha
The general statement out of Anet is, " There will be no mounts in GW2 in the initial release".
So there wont be any when the game launches. Yet I find it likely enough that they will be added later. Or Anet might have said there will likely never be mounts in GW2 and they are not needed in the type of game they've made.
There will not be mounts upon GW2s release. Thats almost 100%. Unless something changes later. However post launch I really do think mounts will show up perhaps at some point.

cool picture. and yes, I agree with you completely. Most def upon release there will be no mounts. Mounts will probably come (if they come at all) with the next expansion or the 2nd expansion. If the demand for mounts is large enough, there's prob a good chance they'll come with the 1st expansion. My thoughts anyway.
I think it is likely that mounts will be put into the game at some point in time, but I hope that mounts act more like low-health siege weapons if they are allowed in WvW.
They might add it if too many folks keep asking for it.
But I don't think the game needs it with all the waypoints, they work fine for me and I didn't miss mounts for 1 sec. during the BWE and stresstest. It doesn't really fit the pace and style of the game imho, if you run around on a mount you'll miss / skip a lot of stuffs because you just don't notice them. Example would be that some folks are already saying there's hardly any story because they rush through and just complete the objectives of DE's and don't pay attention to what NPCs are saying / doing.
I hope not, I'm sick and tired of seeing the same horse resized to fit different races, " lookz I has a horse it is brown and has barding, he has a horse too, it is also brown and has barding, but it is not the same, because it is a different size than mine." please there are approximately 267 breeds of horse in the real world, ya think they could use more than one design in a game, If GW2 where to have mounts, especially horses I hope they use a bit of logic and sense with it, for instance the Charr would never use a horse they would most likely eat it and a horse would never let one get on its back, it would bolt as fast possible, all I’m saying is if they do I hope they invest a bit of thought, money and logic in the idea before they do it.
PS. I play a Charr, anyone trying to mount a Charr is in for a rude shock!
Anyway, what I've seen from the cities and world spaces so far doesn't seem to rule them out: cities, zones, roads and squares are often large, wide and open enough to support a lot of models bigger than the characters themselves without becoming overly cluttered. In that sense they didn't rule them out in designing the world.
The biggest diminishing factor on the chance to have mounts, in my mind, is fans who are vehemently opposing their addition because they have been up in arms against people complaining about the lack of them. It could work like a self-fulfilling prophecy to not have them when a big chunk of fans desperately cling to the notion that they are not needed, nor wanted and would make the game more wow like or something.
I would like to see them personally. Running everywhere already started to annoy me in the beta weekend (not because it took so much time but because it's kind of unimmersive to not have any natural kind of transport).

Ugh....this is kind of something I was worried about. I had hoped that maybe if they just refused to have mounts the world would not be tedious to run across on ones own two legs. Im sure the teleportation hubs are enough to avoid major frustration.
Yet mounts are in every type of fantasy fiction and historically, most major civilizations had figured out the benefit to one. Having heroes running around all over and having several sophisticated societies not having figured out how to ride on something instead of walking seems kind of wonky to me. It just doesnt make sense.
But if it is as you say, then I have no doubt mounts will be added in time. Especially as the world grows slowly larger through perhaps updates and expansions. They may just be needed at that point.
However if its done I hope Anet gives it the careful attention and creativity they've implimented so far in their game. No other game did mounts so well as Red Dead Redemption. Id like to see something similar again there, with perhaps the devs own creativity poured into the mix because I hypothesis those people are darn creative and capable. Time will tell I guess.

Im the exact opposite. I think mounts ruin immersion because it allows you to RUSH. MMO's have only gotten worse once Developers started implementing ways to RUSH. RUSH to end game, Hurry up and wait, Quick Dungeon Finders, Mounts....the lsit goes on and any thing that fosters RUSHing is detremental IMO.
I would much rather have to walk from Point A to Point B and experience the content that a Dev has hidden along the way. I guess thats the explorer in my though.

Did not really notice anything like that myself. Just by using the teleportation thingies I was able to go whereever I wanted quickly and exploring new places by foot is just that much more fun than running past everything with your horsie Convenience wise teleportation beats anything on four legs by a mile!

Agreed on both accounts. I guess I'm torn on the issue. I would like to be able to move a bit faster but I also don't want to miss anything and I most def not want to have anything RUSHED in the game. I completely agree with the effect "rushing" has on mmos; it pretty much destroys them IMO.
Could we have mounts that don't necessarily go that much faster than just walking? Could they serve as both a small form of "siege-type" combat and just for fun? Maybe we could have mounts that go slightly faster than just running but not fast enough to miss out on the world. I don't know... I could go either way. I guess for now, I won't argue for either and just let the Anet devs decide what they want to do with their game. So far they have not let me down.
Some have hinted at my wishes for a mount in GW2 in earlier posts...basically mounts for use in WvW that have a battlefield function aside from transportation such as being mounted cavalry to counter arrowcarts or some form of siege weapon. It would be similar to the siege suit except cheaper to purchase and fairly weak in HP/Armor I would think.
Some Examples:
Human mounts = Armored Horse and Lance
Charr mount = whatever this is just using the spiked wheels or piston ram as their melee option
Norn Mount = Dolyak and rider wields a hammer (That seems very norn like I'd wager)
Sylvari Mount = Ehh no idea, was thinking Avatar of Melandru or even more widely accepted by MMOs is a birdlike mount such as a battle Moa! Not really the black moa but some form of Armored moa, rider gets a spear
Asura Mount = A more compact "Recon" or fast moving version of a siege battlesuit (here are a couple variations )
Anyhoo thats the only way I can see useful mounts, pve wise they are sorta obsolete from teleporting...only good for aesthetics which isnt a bad reason on its own.

Those would make pretty cool mounts. I would so get involved in dolyak racing! haha

The rushing argument falls a bit flat in the face of teleporting. Anyone in a hurry would use teleporting instead and only use mounts for short stretches (unless you are discovering the world for the first time so you are still unable to teleport everywhere, but they could always restrict mount use to a certain level range to prevent low level "turbo-discovery").
Personally I would use a mount to "not rush"; physically travel from A to B rather than teleport there whenever I feel like it.

Mounts as way of fast transport, there is no reason to expect.
Mounted combat why not? We already have plenty of polymorf and chapechange situations, with skillbars changing accordingly.
No reason why that couldn't be used for mounted battles.
I left that purposefully ambiguous to promote more discussion. The general consensus seems to be that people would like to have mounts (or vehicles) in PvP.
For PvE the game mechanics make mounts largely irrelevant.

I would like Anet to do a serious attempt at mounts and mounted combat, keeping up with their inventiveness.
a polished and well done mounted combat would be freakin epic!
I'd say very likely.

If Im not mistaken, some of the GW2 artwork is...well.....pictures of mounts. There's not many but there are a handful. Such as this one. http://www.arena.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/oceanlookout1-600x337.jpg

I guess that you could technically call a war/siege golem a mount, so maybe this question is already a non-issue?
