If they don't allow the usage of skills while mounted then what's the actual point of using a mount?
Cosmetics? Looking good? Looking like in those medieval heroic fantasy movies like Conan, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, riding their horses? Fun? Roleplaying (mmoRPg)? Collecting?
God forbids anything in a game may actually be in for FUN...

They already have mini pets in the game for fun and collecting. And I doubt ArenaNet will put in mounts purely for cosmetic purposes.
I could think of a lot of mini games that would be fun to use mounts in. Some sort of obstacle course, or a jousting mini game, but purely for cosmetic purposes? Not a chance.

"Of course, mounts could be used "just for show" which is viable in a game that has miniatures (which I like - yay mini battles!). Like large "minis" that you can mount, maybe also getting a speed buff while mounted on them but completely useless in combat." I already answered myself? I just wanted some more opinions?
Block the trolls, don't answer them, so we can remove the garbage from these forums
If I remember right, Anet said a couple years back that they were considering adding mounts at some point post-release. I don't know if it's for sure or not, as they have not said it. Maybe they'll add it when we get the guild halls and player housing post-release?

EDIT:
Found one of the links. Few other tidbits in there as well. http://guildwars2.cz/otazky-odpovedi-pro-guildwars2-cz/2/
actually mounted combat in WvWvW already exists with Siege Golems ...
It would throw off the balance of how travel is currently implemented.
