I agree that nobody should be surprised that D3 ended up a lot like D1 and D2 but I think a lot of people were expecting something more out of D3 than the same mobs with bigger stat numbers as they climbed in difficulty.
D3 didnt end up anything like D2 unfortunately. and it was hard to tell what a steaming pile of crap D3 would be just from "research". in fact, it was hard to tell even while playing before Inferno.
basically. im starting to wonder if those claiming that D2 was just about gear grinding have even played the damn game. i want some of what the fanboys are smoking. the game didnt have the artificial gear checkpoints. i.e. you didnt have to have certain stats to be able to pass a section (on any difficulty), or rather the permissible gradient was much larger.
in addition, lets say D2 was about gear grinding and nothing else. it was BETTER executed than D3. the stat randomization mechanic is fucking moronic, as it essentially makes 99% of drops useless. the best build will always be the one with primary stat + vit + resists.
