The game has no levels and they can't make a trial cap like SWTOR, WOW, RIFT or others so that only means the whole game will be full F2P right from the get go as it should have been from the very start
I played the 2 betas and it's just horrible. With juggernauts such as GW2 on the horizion that are F2P its absolutely unfathomable to me how this unwieldy game with horrible combat and boring SP gameplay with dead community (SWTOR anyone?) could ever charge a monthly fee AND a cash shop.
I predict it will go F2P in the first few months but then again, even that won't save it form a swift and much deserved demise
Now dont get me wrong, I think AOC is a great game and it became even better when it went F2P (again, should have been from the get go), but AOC is way better than this crap so...

So the first beta was horrible, and then you decied you wanted to play more? For me that makes everything you say meaningless.
Well i can guess you wont be graceing us in TSW ? Thank god and i can see this game lasting a long time. cant wait for it to come out .
I enjoy this game a ton better than AoC.. ill happily subscribe to this while i also enjoy GW2 at the same time:)

Good thing for you there is a third beta weekend coming up so you can play a third weekend!
When, should be "IF" as it is not a forgone conclusion at this point & your post is making an assumption.
Trials can be zone selective so just the starter zones can be accessed.
If you played the Kingsmouth beta, the combat will be getting a revamp, word from closed beta is it is much improved in terms of feel & flow though the mechanics are not drasticly different.
I liked the game very much, I also felt combat needed work to improve it's feel, that movement particularly jumping needed a lot more work & the speed of the enemies was far too high negating the point of most of the movement being spoken of.
That said I felt the game's strong points were the setting, the portrayal of the setting in the graphics sound & effects, the questing system being more open with limited "hubs" where hubs made actual sense, & the jewel in the crown being the investigation quests.
I want to try PvP to see if that fits in well with the game, but I feel you may have been given a bad impression by the out-dated beta client from the 1st 2 weekends, however if the whole game made you feel so bad it's probably sage to say this game isn't for you, try the GW2 beta this weekend & perhaps that will be more to your liking.
I played the 1st beta for two days and gave it a fair shot and I hated it. The 2nd beta apparently was the same so I logged in for an hour or so to see if they opened up new areas or did something at least... and I stopped playing right after.
Your comment makes zero sense
Totaly disagree. I played in both GW2 and TSW beta tbh I think they are pretty close as far as fun and polish. I think TSW has much better story though. GW2 has super good controls. Bottom line I found them both to be pretty good considering they where still in beta. PS: GW2 is not real ftp, 1. it cost $10.00 dollars more then TSW for the box, 2. There are tons of vanity items like eq2 that are going to be for sale, so its kinda free to play. I mean eq2 which in the state of all 3 games is far better then the other two has no box price, and free or monthly. A great game I play recently though that is not even really an mmo is Diablo 3 really I think GW2 and TSW will both have trouble beating Diablo 3 fun for your dollar.
I used to think the same thing, believe me.
But do to things I cannot speak of (more precisely, recent changes to things I cannot speak of), I'm starting to have a glimmer or two of hope for TSW.
Btw, I am by no means a fanboi. Further, most in these forums would call me a troll =p

sorry I laughed so hard I cried on that one.

Let's go with a more plausible scenario....
You didn't play at all, and are just blowing smoke.
My guess is that TSW will become a niche game like EVE or STO. It seems to have an equal amount of pros and cons and the story itself I'm sure will attract some people who don't usually play MMO's.
Imo, it's a good game to play while playing another like GW2 or DayZ.
Well what ive seen alot of us is going to play GW2 and TSW together. Both real good games and tottally differnt on playing style. when you get tired of one switch to the other.
Eve isn't a niche anymore as it has a huge population, even more so for a game as old as anarchy online.
As for the OP's question, I don't see this outselling age of conan but even if it does here is my guess for the future and FTP model (if it outsells age of conan and keeps 500,000 subs then it wont go free to play):
If it undersells age of conan then a than more development gets cut or reasigned to other projects than is expected today so less future development and slower patches to fix bugs. This leads to fewer players that would have stayed anyway. Leading to fewer players per server and more people leave because of a lack of players in a social game. My guess is Funcom will save the free to play card for a rerelease type of campaign like age of conan so well over a year but it will be to late anyway if the game wasn't solid to begin with. Free to play didn't boost Age of Conan long and now it s at an all time low. So maybe they are just using the life time sub as a cash grab and will go free to play earlier.
My guess is they are copying age of conan's plan C business model on day 1. So the development will be focused on small content updates for sell once or twice a year to all players. An update may have a zone and two dungeans, so around 1/10th of a real expansion released by peer MMOs.
Using the above assumptions: free to play model will cap Skill points and make you pay for other skill points, likely overpriced at like $7 for 10 SP and then pay to unlock every instance available on day 1. They may not let free to play players use the mission packs but if they do then $$$ for each. Aside from that expect items with powers to show up in the game store for $$$ with free to play for more money when it goes free to play.
If it is a great game then it will do OK, but I doubt anyone who played open beta felt like this game is anything special. Besides Funcom's strategy isn't to get loads of players anyway, though to hit marketing goals they do, but the stated strategy is to get more money per player.
I laughed to and had a bursting out moment at the clueless factor of that poster.
I came across this interview http://www.inquisitr.com/249634/the-secret-world-exclusive-interview-with-creative-director-ragnar-tornquist/
The fun part comes when you read the conclusion: This concludes our exclusive interview with Ragnar Tørnquist. He has shown great passion for creating a truly outstanding MMORPG. He has designed a vital, exciting world that combines incredible originality with all the fun and excitement any gamer could ever want. Judging by over 150 hours of play time in the press beta, we think Ragnar and his team have achieved all that they hoped for and much more. If you play any MMORPG this year, you should play The Secret World. It is just that good.
So, someone from the press got to play 150 hours of it and really likes the game? That at least shows that the game is solid, way past Kingsmouth.
They have already stated that 500k subs for TSW is a huge success, it is what they are aiming for. Around 250k subs will mean the game is still profitable but not as successful as they wanted it to be.
If it bombs and does not manage 250k subs then it will probably go free to play at some point, but most games that hemmorage subs do end up going free to play. If this game can hit the mark for a select number of people it will be a success no matter how many people on these forums hate it.
More MMO's need to launch and aim for similar sub numbers or less rather than going for the millions since the WoW anomaly happened.
Well in my opinion TSW is a lot better than GW2 during GW2 closed beta i got bored as hell so i aint getting it.. boring boring boring same old same old..
After testing TSW i really enjoyed it and pre-ordered.. SO i dont expect it to be f2p form the get go LOL..
We all like different things but you dont see me maknig posts slating GW2 because I find it boring..
Sure, story and zones will have their use only for a limited time and next to no replay value. The lack of real social features like cabal (guild) housing, trophy gathering, etc will also lower the replay value.
BUT:
TSW has a horizontal progression. One character can be anything and mix concepts.
The whole "Builds" idea is vast in TSW.
You don't need to min-max to the extreme to understand the "keeps you busy" idea behind the system.
I understand that the "build" concept may not fly for most people because they don't want to actually develope and test their theories out themselves. Most people enter a dungeon with the mindset they need (and have) a build which does the job -either through fixed roles or "guides" from google. Those people naturally will not be engaged into the "Builds & Decks" metagame.
If you can't see yourself fiddling with passiv & active skills every day for a "good" setup for boss X and trying to make an idea work instead of just copy & pasting a guide build, well i doubt TSW will keep you entertained, but then again that is not bad initself.
Logic at it's best right here.
Indeed. No one has ever made a trial that's based on time played instead of the level cap trend.
Talk about a leap in logic... Or would that just be a long fall into the illogical?
While people love choice and enjoy finding something/a setup they find fun and rewarding, I don't think most like being forced to change to something else to complete an encounter and being told it's still their choice.
Who is forcing them? Players can either fail repeatedly or learn to get better. Getting better includes experimenting with skills and builds. If people choose not to do it well the game probably isn't for them in the first place.
Nice of the OP to share his thoughts on TSW with the community
The game clearly doesn't appeal to him, but luckily there are dozens of other games in the market to choose from.
The world would be so boring if we all liked exactly the same things...
Opinion when they announced the game: "YAAAAY!"
Opinion after playing the game: "LOL"
