But someone is actually VERY happy now... Blizzard, who gain a percentage of every single sale.

The real money AH of diablo is the typical Blizzard answer to a problem... it's not "how can we get rid of RMT so that our players aren't annoyed by them and our games have a balanced playfields", no no no! The real thinking is "how can we take advantage and make money of the RMT market". You can expect Titan to have a real money AH too.

It is no different than CCP cashing in on plex sales in EVE.

Rather than combat the gold sellers, both companies are getting in on the action.

I think it is a good business move, but as a gamer I hate it.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

It is, unless I missed something. In EvE, just like in the upcoming GW2, you can't sell in game stuff for real life money. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course. There's no (legal) way to make real money from the game.

In Diablo III, you can make real money from the game, and this totally legally and supported (aka encouraged) by Blizzard who makes a substancial percentage on each sale.

I must admit I only played EvE shortly and ages ago, so I may be wrong. Can you sell in game property in EvE directly for real life money?

No.   But I am sure there are people that do.

I still do not get it.    Why buy anything virtual with real money?   Someone please explain this to me so I can understand the need that some people have to do something like this?

Irrelevant to the actual discussion then. I'm sure there are people selling/buying drugs in "real life" too, it doesn't make it more legal or acceptable.

Point is, in Diablo III, this is 100% legal, and was made so because Blizzard is making money from it at the expense of the game's balance. It was predictable that the gold farmers would outdo the normal customer on this too, since it's their "job", so to say. The result of Diablo III's real money AH was predictable, and is the shining example of why NOT to do such things in games.

I dont care about the RMAH as far as buying items, as I wouldnt use it for that.  If I ever came across a nice item though that I thought would sell for actual cash, I would list it there.  Its weird/sad seeing people getting all worked up over this.

Companies want money. They also want happy customers but you're in for the money in the end. Why is it such a shock to soo many people that gaming companies make games for the money?

You think previously Blizzard made games for gamers and not for money? Think again. It has always been like this.

Not in game yet, and I am sure, since this is Blizzard we're talking about, there will be PvP gear you'll need to get.   You probably have to farm for it via PvP like you do in WoW.    So I wouldn't be so concerned right now.

Also, still do not get this need to buy items.   All you do is say it is bad for game balance.    Its a single player game with co-op optional game play.    You control no territory.  You own nothing.   So why the need to buy items?  How does it wreck game balance?

  • TheLizardbonesTheLizardbones Member CommonPosts: 10,910

What do gold farmers have to do with the state of the RMAH? There are so many people playing the game and so many items being put into the RMAH, there is no chance at all that the prices wouldn't drop. There are 6,000+ identical vendors and they all have nearly identical stuff to sell.

As far as game balance...it never existed in the first place. D2 wasn't balanced. Why would anyone have an expectation that D3 would be balanced. Unless "Balanced" means that a select few should have an advantage over everyone else, then yes, D3 is totally imbalanced. Now everyone has a chance to get what they want, and a chance to be on equal footing.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Yes, they can still do that.  Alongside millions of actual players doing the same thing, adding insane amounts of competition to the market.  Which dramatically reduces their potential profit.

Goldsellers, botters, hackers have huge competetive advantage over normal people.

They farm gold on bots / hack accounts  and because of that they will be able to sell gold / items much cheaper than normal user.  Not much players have dozens or hundreads of millions in gold.  Professional farmers gold / items farming amounts are not achievable to players, with exception of  those most hardcore of hardcore.

RMAH is gonna be owned by professional and semi-professional farmers in few weeks.

'Normal' players will be mostly buyers with exception of very those few lucky getting very good lucky drops.

It wrecks game balance because in someones mind they are competing with their fellow player. Even though there is no competition, but in their mind there is.

At the outset, let me acknowledge that I have not read the entirety of this thread.  But, has anyone brought up the point that every one of these RMTs constitutes a taxable event?  Just saying.

Not that I care myself but they are adding PvP some time this millenium.

Which is going to be rather hilarious when they do. Would be even without the rmah.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Because it's easy. Let's say there is some awesome gear you want. It could take months of playing to get it. Technically you play because it is fun so this shouldn't be a big stumbling block, but people are impatient so if you give them the ability to to get what they want immediately without the effort, a certain percentage of people will do it. <--- This is now the major business model of video gaming, as opposed to making money by simply making fun, good games.

Also somewhat more philosophically just because something is virtual it doesn't mean it has no value.  You can make the argument that if you've paid to see a movie, you've paid for a virtual item.

Really...so some gamer playing Skyrim has found this uber sword of "kill everything", let's say, and this would make you or others upset?   Or in any game where it is you against the AI of the game.   This is going to impact your game?   You honestly feel cheated?

The thing is you speak logic, and to most of these gamers they do not seem to grasp the idea of logic. I agree with you and had said the very same thing almost but with expletives in real life to these jackwagons on this thread. I laugh and say what is the point even arguing with them.

Competetive advantage in SELLING ON RMAH.

They will undercut prices to the point that 99% of normal players will not earn cash on RMAH unless they plan to sell gold they earned in long weeks of playing for let's say 5$ or their absolute best items at 0,5-1$ per piece.

After few initial weeks as it is gonna take a while for farmers / botters to own RMAH.

No idea why you talk about gameplay or balance as my post was not about that.

But so what??  If "farmers" have brought market price of Pants of Awesomeness down to $0.99/pair, what difference does it make?  You can sell your pair for $0.98 if you want.  Just because someone is willing to take a lower price than you doesn't mean something is broken.

I myself hope this RMAH does fail because I sure don't want this to be the next gaming standard. And everyone was against my idea of upping the cost of a true MMO to $50.
