Why is gaming humanity going through a seemingly infinite loop of hyping up mediocre games, and then complaining when the same games keep coming out? This has happened with RIFT, this has happened with SWTOR, how is GW2 any different?

The overhyped themepark model is so easy to go into for developers because of YOU. I mean, GW2 doesn't even have open-world PvP. The PvP takes place on some magical island which is not connected in any way to the regular world. What BS.

That is sort of the way Guild Wars goes though isn't it?  I am just basing this from the fact that it is similar to the first Guild Wars.  They added more world stuff but the core is still arena based PvP. . they just made it a larger arena and a more gorified training centre.  Excuse the mataphores.

Because there are people who absolutely hate open world pvp? If this is the best "reason" you have for hating GW2 I pity you.

If you actually play GW2, you will see why people are so excited for it.

Well if PVP is your main point of contention keep in mind that not everyone likes PvP.. I certainly don't like open world PvP, and therefore didn't really enjoy Aion because of it.

PvP is not what the "Massive Multiplayer" in MMORPG is all about, it certainly CAN be a part of what it is about, but for many MMO simply means being able to play an RPG online with hundreds/hundreds of thousands of others to meet up, chat with, group up, or play against.

Too many people pick one thing about a game that they don't like and decide to complain about that saying that the game itself provides nothing new, or sucks.

I personally have enjoyed both BWE's and do not feel like I'm playing your run of the mill PVE MMORPG. I stated in a post on another thread that it GW2 is basically a traditional themepark but with the questing tweaked in a manner that it doesn't feel like your run of the mill themepark.  The personal story, hearts and DE's are all very enjoyable to me, much more than PQ's in WAR or Rift's in Rift ever were.

    1. Because people are hoping / waiting for fun and exciting MMOs. Overhyping a game is something we can't control.
    2. Not everyone likes open PVP and getting ganked while trying to do PVE content.

I think that you should really try to establish some strong points as to why GW2 is just anoter mediocre themepark. If you truly wish to discuss the issue in such a way that isn't flamebait, you need to make some solid points to back up your opinion. You made one statement about the game. However, the lack of open world PVP has been discussed over and over regarding GW2. And even beyond that, open world PVP doesn't appeal to everyone so to many, this is not mediocrity. It's a desired design feature.

Themepark mmorpgs suck. The only games that suck more are sandbox mmorpgs.

I have absolutely no desirte to mix PvE with PvP. Those are different types of games, they are impossible to balance; if a mmorpg wants to have both well-done PvP and well-done PvE it has to separate those two types, at least a bit.

That said, I don't believe in large-scale PvP. Large-scale PvP in 100% of mmorpgs before inevitably sucked donkey's thing (yes, DAOC too. Deal with it.). I don't see GW2's large-scale PvP breaking the trend. I am looking at it at most as at a distraction; my main hopes for long-time casual entertainment are balanced battlegrounds.

There's PvE servers for people who dont like owPvP. The reason is how the game is designed, it just simply does not support owPvP since everyone plays in the same "faction" basically. A lot easier to design and manage a world like that I guess.

Be my guest. I've tried pretty much all forms of pvp, and it sucked unless you could afford a life-time commitment to that game in order to get access to "good kind" or pvp, properly prepared, in proper trained guilds, etc. I have a wife, though, and I can't afford 2 life-time commitments; there are not enough hours in the day. And for casual player like me it sucked, and will likely terribly suck in GW2.

No. Give me my battleground and marry the game yourself, if you want to. So start laughing now.

Besides, many of the people excited for it have already played it.  Obviously they think it is pretty good.

Maybe some people aren't jaded, disenfranchised gamers and they  can just go into a game and enjoy it for what it is.

Perhaps this is the majority of people who buy and play these games while a smaller group of players, looking for their "perfect game" just keep complaining all the while being bitter?
