TSW is my new obcession after playing for the first time over this past weekend (never payed attention before BW3). Funcom delivers challenging scripted PvE like no other (AoC raids were my fav all-time), and this Darkness War dungeon sounds pretty twisted.
After years of searching for a goddamn good MMO I've finally found my fuckin' holy grail and I love it. It will be great to share this amazing game with like-minded folk. See you lot on the other side.
alot of the animations and sounds were different this weekend then last two OBs so they did add some new ones. idk if more are otw but they werent too bad like people complain.
I had an absolute blast this past weekend and trying to compare TSW quests to GW2 is beyond me. GW2 hides questing behind Hearts and DEs but you still have to kill x this or that as others have said. I can't remember in my time beta testing GW2 did I have to step back like I did in the quest Something Wicked or the Black House etc and really think about what I needed to do to complete it. They are two completely different games and bashing one or the other is really tasteless, but the same people over and over continue to do so, maybe their life sucks and need to feel good about themselves by putting other people down or a game.
I also tried to help people but when I got a repsonse after I gave the person a hint on how to do it of "You suck" I sorta stopped helping people. In addition the same players kept spamming chat asking the same questions repeatedly, that does get old especially when they were not really all that hard if you took your time and thought it out.
I also did both instances and they were both very smooth and polished, and not 3 hours long, so hearing about another new instance is very nice and I am sure it will be fun. After all isn't that why we play games to have fun, I know I do.
I enjoyed the game as well... but I felt it was missing something. When I couldn't continue the storyline, I uninstalled. I have a feeling that's how the game is going to go too. It feels a lot like SWTOR in terms of longevity to me - albeit with a better crafted story and much more impressive graphics.
I'll play the story line then quit. Sad this isn't a co-op single player game.
you obviously havent been out of kingsmouth lol wtg with that sjit

I played the beta this weekend and played GW2 last weekend. I have to say, Im longing to play TSW more. Once you get the hang of it, the game really drew me in. All the different skill combinations should be a blast and the quests were fun. The enviroment was different and it was nice to play a non-fantasy enviroment for a change.
If they can get the pvp right, this game may hold me for some time.
Love the setting and story but oh my GOD is the actual gameplay bad. Not sure if I'll buy. I expect it to go F2P soon. My money is better spent on GW2.

This
I have and I felt the same.
Maybe you two can just admit that opinions are subjective.
This is a good game with a very unique setting. It wont be for everyone of course.
Its sad how the GW2 fanboys/trolls are doing everything they can to bash this game and turn people off from it when honestly the type of player who plans to play GW2 probably wouldnt be interested in TSW anyways.
Ive played both betas and all i can say is GW2 has better PvP and thats about it (and maybe not even pvp since we havent seen what TSW's will be like yet). Other than that TSW's world and story is 100x more immersive and interesting than GW2 super generic fantasy setting that has been done ad nauseum. Both have good graphics and art styles. GW2 combat at the moment is more fluid and has better animations. TSW's leveling is slightly better although both are good.
when i first got into the game i found the graphic was good and the UI was clean.
however, the gameplay did not start quick enough for me. there were lots of slow pace conversations at the begining. speed things up here a little bit would help (tbh i almost fell asleep in the first 15 mins doing the Dragon storyline).
cutscene has potential but still need improvements. not closed to swtor standard (apology to make comparisons, but i feel its reasonable to. they are both mmorpgs.i am not going to compare it to mario or tetris)(fyi i dont even like swtor). really need polishing. for example, eyeballs of player character had no focus, no direction etc. also it felt wierd to have NPC talking by themselves all the time. player character never speak a word. this was intended but yet after a few convo it did feel really wierd.
ok. so i followed the butterflies got into Agathar and reached Kingsmouth (very L4D is Kingsmouth). this was where i really get to try its gameplay. was kind of meh. the graphic was really nice but the gameplay was very tab targeting (i am sorry for those of u who really like this game but i am just being honest here, dont feel offended). i did not see much variation between different weapon playstyles. ok hinder them and follow up with this. afflict them and follow up with this.
i didnt fully believe when i read about a concern re character combat animation. but it was just that and it was not good. top part of body and bottom part movement did not sync well together. really need to fix this soonish. oh and have u tried /sit with a female character wearing skirt. its not nice for children. pls have the female sit animation changed!
quests are very generic. but ok most mmorpg games got generic quest style, i can live with that (although i did hope they did try something different like in GW2. ok some say they mask the quests and present them differently. i say yes totally. if only for nothing eles, the masking and different presentation alone do help so why not have them). the quests are however very heavy on details and this can be good/bad depends on each player. theres a lot to read, if u like obtaining a massive amount of info. a lot of stories. unlock more clues. if u like this feature, then i suggest u try it. u may well like it.
the world was very funcom style. multi instanced maps. each map has a fairly good chunk of area. but it did not feel persistent. oh and despite very good graphics. the immersion was somewhat... i should say... disturbed. imagine hell broke loose, zombies everywhere but yet those NPC guys were like hey its all good ere. we are enjoying it like this. i need a lot more intensity in these darkdays and hopefully it will be added.
lastly i would rather not comment much more on the value/price issue. box fee + sub fee + cash shop. seriously? i have no problem with all these costs as, no bs, my income is USD10000 a mth. not exactly a professional footballer or golfer wages but i absolutely have no problem spending a couple hundred USD on games. but still, i dont see TSW as a good purchase here. some of u may well enjoy it so good luck to u. i want to be able to enjoy it and hopefully it will be improved to a level that i do. but as of now is a no go.

95% of the negative post about TSW come from those people. If you see a bad TSW post look at the poster history. I promise you will see pages and pages of GW2 praise.

The GW2 trolling is not restricted to a single game unfortunately.
At this point I just hope that GW2 launches at last, so people land back to airport reality. Not going to happen any time soon though, that game seems months from ready for release.
Must admit i was kind of torn between TSW and GW2, mostly GW2 for the PVP, the whole W v W v W thing is definitely GW2's killer app, but... yeah i was kind of put off by the box price.. and although the box price has dropped quite a bit now - in the UK at least its now down to £38 probably due to the fall in value of the Euro .. but, after playing TSW, i have to say, it gets my vote, or in this case, cash, i'll be buying TSW on preorder, something i definitely wouldnt do without trying out any game these days. at least i still get to play the game, its a shame the cb toons don't get carried over.. but at least i get a huge headstart in learning to play the game
if i get GW2, and i probably will, it won't be until most likely the middle of next year... if i have the time
Not sure how long some of you been playing MMOs, but I thought TSW was definitely one of the worst betas I have been in since 1999 (tried hundreds of MMOs).
Got my refund from Funcom for pre-order, and playing Everquest 2 again until World of Darkness comes out.
Well I've been playing mmos MUDs and what have you for the past 20 + years or so and beta tested almost every mmo out there, I can say that TSW beta was almost flawless.
It's nice to actualy read a thread on the game that focuses on the positive side , and I for one cannot wait to get my hands on this game! Ahit, I can't even play anything else right now.
I spent a few Hours in the beta but I am holding out for the release. I love the genre of 'magic returning and the modern world going to crap'. I hope the pvp is balanced. That will keep the game alive once mysteries are solved.
I am not a fanboi of either GW2 or TSW. I like them both and will play them both. Both have some weak points and both have some strong (or very strong) points. Both are good games.
A couple points:
TSW Instances - There definitely are some instances but the main maps of all the zones are open, large and persistent.
Animations - While I agree that some are a bit stilted, the 'final polish' is yet to be applied (as per the devs). Same as the skins on the NPCs. For the longest time they all looked exactly the same (well a small handful of variations). I can't foresee the future but so far everything they (devs) were supposed to deliver they have.

This. it's another mmo where I'm more annoyed by other people than happy to see them. they interfere not only with immersion but are completely unneded for the main draw of the game.. storyline.
3 months after release we will see who was right about that. Imo most players will leave after expereincing sotryline.
I like tsw and gw2. They state many things Not wow clones Not using the tired old hub system Easier grouping through either no trinity or on the fly build switching Persistent 3 sided pvp Inverse power curve Not focused on raid raid raid Story element Reasonable level of exploration compared to recent themeparks Build flexibility (esp tsw) Combat that's evolved from typical mmo combat (esp gw2)

Most mmo's today are nothing but lobby games anyhow and have no real immersion anymore like the classics (to me).
SWToR even though it is a great game leveling to 50, but thats where it stopped for me. GW2 feels too much like a arcade game to set your character up for a e-sport like GW and doesn't feel like a seamless open world mmo (to me). Now this doesn't mean I don't like SWToR or GW2, but it's the same ole same ole experience I can get it WoW with a different skin.
With TSW, to me it just feels different and especially the atmosphere, I feel more immersed in this game, probably due to the fact I like reading suspense books and thrillers. I will actually try this game out since it's odd and off the wall.
Then again, what we got here is different strokes for different folks.

I really look forward to playing this game Full Time and slowly walking toward enemies while firing off my Shotgun.
That was just... enjoyable in this last weekend's beta test.
But man, I'm strapped for cash right now....
