Blahh, Blahh, Blahh, everyone keeps posting…GW2 is awesome, it rocks, it’s the WoW killer etc.  And that is all fine and dandy.  But it is time to put your money where your mouth is.

We all know someone who is just wasting their time and money paying a sub for a game they have already all but played out.  It’s time to just go out and buy them a copy of the game.  This will in effect teach them that they don’t have to pay a sub just to log in and sit around a campfire comparing farts.  They can instead have all the adventure and excitement of a full blown MMO without having to pay a sub.

The money they will save without a sub will allow them to get a little something for their sweetie as well as get any future expansions.

So help a friend today and you will have helped them for a lifetime of game play.   As to those of us who actually pony up and buy that extra copy we will have supported a great game and only helped to make it better.

Note: All you haters keep coming and post all your venom.  All you are accomplishing is raising the hype meter that will only get more people turned on to the truth.

I've already bought two extra copies of this game and given them to friends.

    TWO.

I'd buy a third, but the third friend of mine who hasn't bought it already hates MMOs and I'm having a hard time convincing her that most of her MMO complaints don't actually apply to GW2.  I'm not going to buy it just to have her hate it though, I'm more likely to buy it for more neutral people.

So I have put my money where my mouth is.

It's a lot better than buying an MMO with a sub as a present.  Unless of course you're paying for a lifetime sub along with the MMO. :)

So basically, GW2 will kill subs? Where are you people getting all these cristal balls?

EDIT: BTW, YOU can't handle the truth. Also, when somebody says x is the wow killer, you lose all points in your post.

GW2 is a long ways from being a true MMO in my book. Great game for PvP but that is about it at this time. This is why we have to wait for the changes and next BWE to see what other features get implemented.

I know people hate to admit it and only see the surface but I am far past taking any game a face value.

wow has been stabbed and slowly crawling along the floor bleeding out subs for about the past 2 years... when wow dies... so will the whole mmorpg genre for a good while. Guild wars 2 is gonna be a good game, but its soo over hyped its hilarous... (fanboys attack now)

I don't think it will kill subs. However, I am sure the success of GW2 will put a lot of pressure in the MMO market (development and publishing, both). And, guess who'll benefit from that?

Yep, all of us, game consumers.

Would you mind telling us then a few examples of games you do consider to be 'true' MMO's?

Really?!?!?!? You mean like we all benefited from the success of WOW?

I mean I think I can see a way it will help in that if any mmorpg is a success it just gets investors looking for the next big thing hence more development but truth be told do we really need what will result from that which will likely be a bunch of GW2 clones.

Now if that happens I for one will be puzzled about all the comments we've read on here for years that people want to see originality when what they really wanted was a system they found acceptable and being fine with that system being cloned over and over again.

I'm not sure but I doubt very seriously GW2 won't sell well and from there we will see how the community reacts to devs reactions to that success.

And as far as all this buy extra boxes and give them away this reminds me of the ploy often used by mmoe'rs im regards to SWG people were multi boxing and sending copies all over the world to friends but all the ravenous fandboy/girl support didn't help sub numbers much they peaked around 750k and then took a nose dive so we'll see if things are different this time around.  I really do hope so though because maybe folks would spend more time in a game they enjoy and less trying to destroy any game not made for them.

Basically, no. There aren't any subs in GW2, let alone the torpedos or sea-mines to kill them with........

And, the TRUTH is: it's spelled crystal, not cristal (unless you mean balls of champagne, in which case, party on!)

How many points does this post get? Oh well, it increased my post count anyway, which is the point, right?

Free to play games are generally pay to win.

Monthly sub games are generally grind to win.

    GW2 is a new thing.

The title of this thread is gross, money is not really tasty or healthy to put in your mouth.

I've never seen such dedication in a droid before.....

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

It is easy to be cavalier about WoW at this time and age. But it is, like it or not, a game that has expanded the market, for good or ill. It stimulated an increase in MMO making, and thus, paved the way for a lot of games.

Most bad, some OK, a few great. But, that's besides the point. It is like condemning Gutemberg for the Twilight book series.

I do think that GW2 comes with a different philosophy, and that the business model is outstanding, even for the most jaded and motoroil-drooling critic. As such, I think it will impact the market. Let's just see where it goes from there.

Did someone just coin the term "GW2 clone"?

I think it just happened. We need to head over to urban dictionary and file this next to "Wow clone" and  "over 9000"

I don't even care if GW2 makes subscription model go away in MMOs... I just want, at the least, for them to force games with subscriptions to really seriously churn out some quality stuff to justify it.

I'm not a Rifts player, but just looking at all their updates, I can at least respect them for trying to pump out some content.

Most other MMOs I've played, I can't figure out what that 15 dollars a month is really going to, most of the time.

Doesn't everybody benefit if GW2 creates expectations from players that forces companies to justify their price or get cheaper?  I don't see how somebody could complain about that, or what that has to do with 'GW2 clones'.

Same here. No way am I paying to beta test a game that doesn't even have a release date and most likely will be a ghost town 2 months after release when all the fanboi hype fades.

Sad thing is alot of those that are saying go buy now, don't think, buy! Throw your money at it so even if it fails increbiable the advertisers can walk alway with a profit, are the same ones that'll be here bitching or strangly silent and not playing after they actually get to play the game for a week or 2  solid.

This is true. When i was playing EQ2 and heard they were opening thier fluff CS I was angry because even though its fluff I feel my sub was going on developing it and the stuff in it and they would also design less good looking armor/weapons/mounts etcetera that dropped ingame to tempt people to buy fluff items.

Thread seems a bit silly to me, there's no way i'd buy multiple copies just to "support" a game, they already have my support from buying my own copy. Some people take video gaming far too seriously.

That's the second time today you claim that GW2 isn't a true MMO.  Will you please explain this time why you think it isn't?  And, what abou the PvE sucks to you?  GW2 only good for PvP?  I don't get that kind of thnking.  Both ways of playing are done extremely well in GW2.

And how are we only taking a game at face value?  How much more can we get before release?  The BWEs have so much content in them already, they're almost as filled as some released games, and we've only really seen 3 starter areas and a couple of slightly higher level areas.  So, it seems that the rabbit hole in this game goes very deep indeed.

On topic:  I've already bought a second copy for my wife and kids to play, so I'm not about to buy it again to give to others.  However, I'm very actively talking about the game to others to generate interest.  It's up to them whether they want to try it or not.

I dont' have a problem with your point just hope you didn't think that my post was meant in any way shape or form to insult WOW just to point out that if you used the commentary on this site as any indication of gamer tastes that WOW by many is not seen as a good thing but as the bane of all mmo progress.

I loved the game up until a bit after TBC and since leaving I haven't taken up a crusade of hate I find a stable workig game to be a good thing for fans of gaming whether I enjoy it personally or not but if you look around here you wold find an alarming number of people who would hope for the failure of any game they deem as "not for them".

If most of those same people are true to the points they have spent years trying to make they should hate all the GW2 clones that we shoud see coming but I honestly don't think they will I think they'll love them because they are made with a system they have not yet tired of.

It sucks to say but I'm predicting that many of the posters on this site are about to reveal themselves as hypocrites because it won't be about innovation or originality it will be about their own personal desire to move on from a specific design philosophy.

And after about three years of GW2 cloning we can start the whole pity party over again.

How long will I be playing GW2? 2 months? A week or 2? I'm confused.....

I'm not paying to beta test a game, I'm beta testing a game as a bonus for buying it. The difference isn't subtle, but apparently it still eludes some (the type who troll forums of games they have decided, without playing, to dislike). It's really kinda cool to be able to give feedback and input that helps polish a game I know I'll be playing (and likely will play for years).

I'm fine with the release date being "2012, sometime". That means I won't have a month or more of playing an unfinished, hastily produced game. Seems the industry standard is to release a game in basically beta phase and let the polishing come as updates along the way.

After playing 50+ hours already, I can't see it getting boring for another couple hundred at least. That's like 25 cents an hour or less, really not a bad deal......

    Edit: oh yeah, topic......

I bought a second copy after the first BWE for my girlfriend, after letting her play on my computer for a few hours. Cheaper than a night out on the town, and lasted longer already. ;p

I took the liberty of going through his Post History and it seems that he thinks TSW, AoC, EQ2 and such games are 'true MMO's'. He seems to think that GW2's PvE is instanced and that the 20+ content is boring and easy.

I also seen one of his posts that he pretty much expressed the opinion that the best base to start a game from would be vanilla EQ so I must assume he thinks that was the 'best' MMO.

And to stay on topic, I've not bought a copy for anyone else but I very well might be for a good friend of mine who I know will enjoy it but hasn't taken the plunge just yet (It's his B-Day soon).

    Point nicely made.

One supports the developers by purchasing a copy, participating in the gaming community (in this case the beta events), and offering feedback.
