I attempted to cancel my TSW account along with the GM pack I picked up along with it.  Apparently since I created a Beta character that I will not be able to keep when the game goes live they will not refund the initial game cost.  I guess I paid nearly $50 for the privalige of playing a few hours in Beta.  I may get a refund for the GM pack... still talking to support on that one.

No complaints just thought I would share in case anyone else had this problem.

My bad. I didnt know. Ahwell. You can always resub for 15$ to see if it improves.

  • RateroRatero Member UncommonPosts: 440

The GM pack WAS the lifetime sub :)  $199.95

I got my refund for the GM pack so all is well.  I'm still out the $50 but I guess it was just a lesson learned.

I like the concept of TSW but the combat just kills it for me.  Perhaps if the graphics improve it will spark my desire to play the game and I may yet pick it up again to play it.

Honestly, once so many titles started guaranteeing beta access with a pre-order, I figured we'd start seeing more of this. Strictly because one of the incentives for a pre-order is access to every beta event, and then a refund during the last beta event, well, I figured they'd look at it like you got your moneys worth because of the incentive.

Appears that is indeed how they are looking at it. Sucks, and I would be upset, but I guess I get it.

Well, it's said clearly, that that's how it works. That you actually got your GM refunded was quite a generous move by funcom - didn't except that actually.

Also, who knows, now you can atleast test if after launch, and see if they get the combat fixed to your liking - perhaps you'd start liking it; I actually had to play for quite many hours, before it got me addicted, before that I wasn't that impressed. Though it should be said, that the first time I played it, was back in December, so things was a little different.

Well i bet you still have 30 days gametime, you can play it a month but i think its just not your style if you complain about the grafix.

In my book the grafix are superb.

People need to stop thinking that a game that releases in a week is going to have major changes to the combat system. What you see, is what you are going to get at this point. Hoping for a different combat system for release is one of the most ridiculously unrealistic things you could hope for.

Sucks but its not new, so many products wont give a refund after enjoying a bonus perk. Its certainly not new in the MMO branch.

I guess what I ment to say is the combat graphics I did not care for.  The World graphics are outstanding.  The combat graphics seemed very stiff to me.  Using Blood magic it looked like I was throwing cherry pies at the mobs most of the time with a very stiff arm.  The combat just did not "click" for me.  If the combat graphics were more fluid then I think I would enjoy the game a lot more.

It's only $50 so it's not that big a deal and I did get into Beta to test out the game.  I just wanted to make sure others knew what happens if they decide to cancel their subs like I did.

Well when the beta client everyone is playing is like half the size of the game, and the people on the updated CBT client are telling us the combat is better...id have to think that theres a lot of changes in store in that missing 15 gigs of client size.

Oddly enough..this is literally the inverse of what happend for AOC's launch.  Here the CBT testers are saying great things while the masses of people are complaining about the game...for AoC the CBT testers were spreading doom and gloom while the masses blindly defended the game.

It will be a very interesting launch for this game, so far the people who hate this game the most are devoted GW2 fans.

I'm really just curious what motivated you to go for a LTS? Glad they gave it back to you though.

Yea, that is BS. This is what they tried to do with me as well. It clearly says Pre-order, and you always have an option to cancel it. Tera let me did it. Anyways, I had ordered through Pay pal, they got me my money back. If you did it through credit card then talk to your Credit card company.

When giving the opportunity to purchase a LTS I'll do so since I never really have to worry about another sub fee.  One thing I like about LTS's is that I can play other games for awhile and once I get ready for a "change" I can pop back over to one of my LTS's and not worry about restarting my sub.  Sometimes you get bonus stuff for LTS's each month and it's sorta like a nice present if you have not logged in for awhile to get all that stuff at one time.

Yeah well, paying someone $50 to test their game is $50 thrown into a fire...a complete waste, worse yet...you funded a company making a game you dont like enough to play. I would have gotten that charge removed...quick...well, actually it would never have been there for this game, its Funcom, they have never been able to release a game in average shape let alone good. You need to give them a year to work the kinks out, another year to bring it up to its potential, if they can ever do it.

  • heartlessheartless Member UncommonPosts: 4,993

The moral of this story is to never purchase a lifetime sub for a game you haven't played. I'm glad that the OP got his money back.

Had you pre-ordered from Amazon, you could've cancelled your box pre-order as well.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain it. Usually when this topic comes up it ends in forum PvP. I have just one question for you...

Knowing the track record of games that have offered LTS (as in they have all gone F2P) do you ever feel like you got jerked in the deal? Yes, I know they offer something in place of that LTS but that isnt what you bought to begin with.

To me LTS is now a warning sign. A quick cash grab before it goes F2P. Thats just my opinion though. i'm curious as to how you view it.

Glad your getting some of your money back but this is what companies especiially funcom count on is for ppl to buy it without thiniking and for them to make back a lil before they will shift it to F2p in a few months.Mean as it sounds wish they kinda had kept your money taught you a lesson for the future about preordering mindlessly if ppl would stop doin that crap then more game companies would be more concerned with the product they bring to market.

Well, I'm in the closed beta, and I can see what they're able to pull off. I'm not saying the combat will be completely different at launch - it wont. But for your information he has 30days to play the game; a lot of stuff can happen in 30days!

Furthermore, games can actually receive major changes a week prior to launch - for all we know; these major changes can have been in progress for a long time before getting patched to the client.

I actually think Funcom has done the exact opposite for this game. They've four Beta Weekends - and every single one of these betas, one could get the keys for free.

On the other hand, Arenanet; that's exactly what they're doing! - only letting people play if they've pre-purchased.

But for some reason no one complains about them? - no, because the cool guys hate on funcom, or something?..seriously, at some point you people most get tired, it's almost four years since AoC got launched. And now Funcom has actually listened; Very little hype, tons of ways to play the game before buying it, NDA lift - and still you're complaining.

Nah your right thinking is to hard a concept.

It's the difference between a preorder and a prepurchase. You should be able to cancel an order, but a purchase is, for the most part, final. ArenaNet is no way hides the fact that it is a prepurchase, and that there will be no refunds just because you do not like it. As for you point, I'd say people give ArenaNet a break since their game doesn't have a subscription. Atleast that's how I feel, for me GW2 doesn't have to hold as high of a standard as subscription based mmos, because I get it for cheaper. TSW is in the exact opposite corner, with an initial purchase, subscription and cashshop I expect something truly amazing. (And after trying TSW I felt that it was not for me, the combat was way to slow and uninspired, however that's besides the point.) I easily cancelled my preorder for TSW at my retailer though, no problem there.
