Traditional MMORPG fan base, WoW will sell more, at least short term.

The wild card is if GW2 can draw people from non traditional MMORPG market, with less focus on grinding and gear treadmill plus a more active/action combat that is less reliant on RNG and no sub fee.

    WoW will sell more..

GW2 might sell 2 million in 1 month, with hopefully 3 million in 1 year.

Cata sold 3.3 million in 1 day alone, and 4.7 in a month. Despite WOW's decline, it's still a far greater IP and game on a global scale and beyond the gaming community.

To me , GW2 is a better game by far so i don't give a damm, MOP will probably outsell it by a large margin.

WoW is available to a much broader base of people which is one of the reasons why it is successful. To say that millions of it's currently subcribed players won't purchase the expansion is kinda selfish.

GW2 will sell plenty, but it won't mean it's not a better game nor as successful as WoW. That's just the way it is... Deal with it.

The Gamer base is much broader than the MMORPG base.

In fact WoW player base is much bigger than what the traditional MMORPG market was at WoW launch.

I guess we have to compare the first year of WoW against the first year of GW2.

From what I know WoW was not quite a bestseller in its first year.

So my guess is: GW2 will sell more copies in its first year than WoW did.

Played: Guild Wars, AoC, Lotro, CoH, Warhammer, Tabula Ras, Spellborn, Second Life, Rift, Aion, Tera.
    Playing: Guild Wars 2, WoT

Can't really compare when WoW released at a time when PC gaming was nowhere near as large as it is now.

LOL. GW2 fans trying to twist logic when the title clearly sayd WOW MOP. That way, almost every mmorpg in the last years out sol and will out sell WOW.

I can't see GW2 selling more than WOW MOP.

GW2 will sell a lot but more than WoW?

Outside of the this forum community, I don't see hype for GW2 yet. Which is strange since the release date was just announced.

I do know some were really upset at the cashshop and went somewhere else; mainly to LoL/D3.

Warcraft has a ton of people that multi-box. So for every 1 person that does that, he buys 5 copies of the game.  Kind of hard to compete with that.   I still think GW2 will sell a decent amount though IF they do some massive marketing.

Initially, MoP will definitely sell more boxes. Existing install base vs. new game. No contest.

I would expect GW2 to overtake it around the 1-year mark though.

  • InFlamestwoInFlamestwo Member Posts: 662

Most boxes in a week? a month? a year?

    GW2 boxes in a week: 6 millions

MoP boxes in a week: 6 millions

    GW2 boxes in a month: 10 millions

MoP boxes in a month: 8 millions

    GW2 boxes in a year: 16 millions

MoP boxes in a year: 12 millions

Why MoP? Many of the WoW fans will buy MoP once it release and not many others that aren't WoW fans won't touch it as much, even some WoW fans think MoP will ruin WoW and therefore play another mmoprg, maybe GW2?

Why GW2? GW2 is hyped all over the world and not only by mmo players, but many think that GW2 is crap and they won't leave their game for GW2. GW2 will get their attention once it get good rewievs and everyone talks about it.

I think alot of people tend to forget that GW1 3 stand alone games and the 1 expansion sold over 7 million units. it should be fair to quess that the first one sold over 2 mill then.

It should also be a fair quess that GW2 would sell more than the first GW1.

With the amount of hype there is atm anything less than double the sales would be a dissapointment. That means 4 mill

This actual bring it in reach of being able to be compared with expected MOP sales.

My quess is that for the first year MOP will sell way more, then GW2 will show its staying power and come closer and closer.

The people who pressed "GW2 will sell way more" are SERIOUSLY deluded.

I'd be surprised if GW2 sells even half of Pandaria in EU/NA.

If we take asisa into accounts then GW2 will be lucky to sell 1/10th of WoW's box sales.

i dont think for a second that gw2 will beat  MOP

    but for one second

just just dream if it did  and there was a new kid on the block how it would rock the mmo world

Poll needs a "I have no idea" option.

I already bought GW2, and I'll be buying MoP. I suspect lots of people will buy GW2 if only to see what the hype is about. If you've already invested in WoW, reaching the next level cap is just reflexive at this point. I've got several 85's I haven't played in over a year, but they'll be 90 shortly after MoP.

And then I won't play til the next WoW expac!

Though I agree WoW is played out, they still have most likely 10+ miliion subs (Blizzards to afraid to come out and say latey for sure).  That being said, even if only 75% buy that'll be over 7.5+ million.

  • SinakuSinaku Member UncommonPosts: 552

MOP will easily outsell GW2. Overall right now there is a higher player base than GW2 will have on launch I can assure you.

Well boxes and digital ofc, diden't want to make the title to long.

And both of you think that MoP will have 0(zero) digital sales?

    /facepalm

Won't even be close.  MOP will way out sell GW2 and it has nothing to do with which is  a better game.  I hate WoW but it has way to much of a player base to not sell really well.  It will be in the top ten for box sales for the year for all games where no other MMO can even come close on that list.

The WoW zombies (including many that escaped) will march to the store and buy/download their copy with credit card in hand.

i believe gw2 will out sell wow by a lot!at lunch tho?they should be about the same!people seems to forget how guild wars was.

the first had one flaw!other nation werent in the game till much later (like the korean the russian etc!but once in?oh boy it was addictive.american would gain a foothold in pvp get the buff and all once they went to sleep and korean woke up they gained the advantage once korean went to sleep russian woke up and they owned the pvp.if its anything like it was it will be epic and adictive for all nation!we would see the name of various team etc in korean or in russian and it instilled a kind of!dam we re going vs this nation or that nation team!it was awsome.people that havent played gw at the top of its glory when arenanet put very nice rewarded tournament wouldnt understand!hell arenanet could charge 20 $ a month for those going in the torunement and people would still go!(ya the possibility of beating the foe and making money at the same time is a huge incentive!

the fact that the gw maker(the original)are ex wow employe, means they know what it take to bring in player .they showed that!i only have one concern.arenanet might need to release a tweaking guide.for computer .not just the generality .but all the setting

like how do i set my computer if i am in ycbcr ,do i set it to 4.4.4 or 4.2.2, etc etc etc

why?because all the video i saw on the web graphic all looked awfull like the computer was using a setting that isnt being accepted by the game!
