Bunny hopping is pointless, game has collision detection. It fun taking out wow types in pvp who can't understand why their fig8ing "skillz" aren't paying off.
Resource builders .... the fact the whole combat system is built around resources, makes the whole system feel uninspired and dull. Tried being a main healer in a Dungeon? it's tedious beyond comparison to ANY healing system every utilized in an Mmo. ( Obviously imo ) The combat system behind the game seems to have been the least of Funcoms concern, it's not difficult ... the synergies are not difficult to figure out, everything being resource driven reaks of uninspired developement.
All that said .. I'm still enjoying the game at this time, I just wish they had spent more time making the combat .... fun.
I refuse to play any MMO that has poor combat. Hence why I've only ever cared for a select few MMOs. Heck, Warhammer Online had better combat than this and that still wasn't good enough.
The Secret World has garbage combat so I refuse to play beyond my initial week.

how is being built around resources play out any differn't than games that don't? For instance in most MMOs that aren't built around resources for every class you generally have a spam type skill with no CD then several other skills with CD so yuo are basically playing the CD game waiting for those to pop. Overall it plays out pretty much the exact same you use a couple abilities while waiting on others to be available.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. Pretty much feels the same to me. Only annoying thing is that due to people not paying attention you end up essentially spamming your heals at times to try and keep everyone up. Normally in other games you may only have to worry about this for a boss fight or two. Since this game pretty much revolves around being mostly all boss fights can get a little long in the tooth at times when people continue to not pay attention to mechanics.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

I have wanted to love this game, but I can't. It's just tedious. The combat is a horrible button mash fest. Everything else is stellar. The atmosphere is perfect, the quests are fine. But the combat is atrocious. AOC was sooo much better in this area. I've gone back to lotro and won't be renewing my sub. I appreciate TSW and what it's trying to be, but I don't have the time or patience for it. Instead of getting better, things just get worse as you progress. Crafting is a pain in the ass instead of something to look forward to. It seems like tedium and repetition are the games replacement for leveling up due to lack of content. Otherwise, a small area takes forever due to really slow advancement and the intention of keeping players in one area as long as possible. On top of that, there is very little reference to secret societies and all that. TOTALLY dissappointed...
I was turned off by the clunky combat system as well. The spells are copies of one another with different names. What over 9,000!? Seriously though, the game is fun for an MMORPG... but I fear that this game is out of it's time. It would have been awesome 3 years ago ... but as 2012 MMORPG competing with newer games like GW2, Tera etc... I think it comes up short.
P.S. Please keep us informed on the game though. I plan on trying it out again when it goes f2p down the road just like AOC.

I agree, it's absolutely terrible. The game would actually be good if the combat was decent.
if the combat was decent i would have bought the game for the free month at least. Combat and sub kept me away.
i like the game, but dont like the combat. Since thats what i do the most in an mmo, fight stuff in PVE the game must have a good combat to keep me entertained. TSW lacks one
EDIT: i combat the most when it comes to interactions with others. For the rest i do explore and follow the lore but need good combat

I don't play classes in mmo's with resource because I detest the system, I have always considered it a lazy mechanic. That doesn't change the fact that resource mechanics in just about every other Mmo I've played have been infinitely better than TSW's.
In other Mmo's spamming one ability is typically the hallmark of an unskilled player, or a horribly designed combat system. Very few mmo's actually have a main "spam" type ability akin to the resource builders ... there are a few out there, but most don't. Most mmo's have variety in what abilities you spam ... you can switch it up, in combat. The whole system is a product of only having seven abiltiies to use at a given time ... and absolutely having to build resources. Healings even worse because I have two resource builders ..... healing turns into builder spam fest, its not a good system and its completey detracts from the freedom present in the skill wheel. Why they put so much time into developing a unique progression system only to have it gutted with a combat system that restricts it so much is a mystery to me.

Every single MMORPG uses resource builders and consumers. Even everquest uses this mechanic. As long as you are playing a game where your character is always using a resource to use their skills like mana for example you will have this equation. The only difference is that TSW took it one step further to try and make their game faster paced combat wise. While it works in that aspect, it fails in making the combat itself interesting. Its like they had a great idea but never flushed it out thoroughly. You guys are arguing something that has not changed, just the presentation of it.
Ultimately the original poster is saying the combat feels lackluster and the development team should have done more to enhance it for the players. I agree with him here. There is no point in arguing WoW or shadow cost since this is a constant.

Having a mana pool, action bar , or endurance /= Building Resources and using Finishers .... not the same thing at all. I can see where scemanticly we could begin an argument that lasts ten pages about how everything devolves into some form of resource , therefor it is in the same line and the same thing. It's not though ... so lets not start that dance.
This is what happens when the rest of the devs dumb down their combat system and when someone actually makes something different they freak out. I think a alot of people are just too lazy and spoiled because most mmos have been pretty easy. Now when actual effort is needed it is labeled as bad combat. What a joke...
As much as I like TSW generally, the combat is my least favourite. I agree but not really in the mood to get into another hundred page discussion about this.. went on for to long during CB.. Either way I do agree I wish the feel of combat was improved some and how some abilities react and effect enemies feel more dynamic but the actual mechanics of combat I don't really have much of an issue with. I haven't tried healing as I never enjoyed healing before in an MMO so can't really give an opinion on that aspect of it.

You can dismiss critical comments as all coming from people who don't "get" the system if you want but it's not true.
I keep saying this and people keep ignoring it but the act of picking 7 active and 7 passive skills is NOT combat. Combat is what you do after you target a mob and hit that first attack key.
I have no issues with the way TSW lets you pick and choice 14 skills to put on your bars. I do have issues with the way combat paces and flows once you hit that first attack.
Honestly what I have been doing is just trying to keep combat to short spurts and avoiding long grinding sessions. If I'm fighting non-stop for more than about 20 minutes with this system it starts to really get to me. If I can keep my combat sessions to 10-15 minutes each and fill between them with other quest related things I find the combat is bearable. How long I'll be able to keep that up we shall see.
I have yet to see the negative nancies post which game has what they think is good combat.
AoC, GW2, Blade and Soul (not out yet but i played a korean beta so i can tell), Even WoW has more polished combat.

I dare say that the majority agrees with me when i say that Age of Conan has more realistic combat mechanics, combat animations, movement / jumping animations. FunCom should have copied those features straight from AoC since TSW is realistic.
Tsw combat is better than wow combat. It has collision detection, it has true los, you can't stand there and spam a rotation, it doesn't suit macroing, it has dodge, it has a sensible cc system.

Originally posted by Czanrei Originally posted by pierthOP, I really wanted to take your post seriously, but then you had to say that your big complaint is with boring combat and you've gone back to LoTRO as if that's an improvement.TL;DR- OP complains about combat in a MMO, then returns to another MMO with (arguably) worse combat.
So by bashing another IP, you expect others to consider your view unbiased and informative? Yah, that's not going to happen.
You don't have to take my word for it at all- look at all of the complaints from players that have tried LoTRO out and the great majority of them (aside from things about the cash shop) are that the character models suck compared to the environment and that the combat is slow, stale, and boring.
I did nothing more than point out a glaring flaw in his initial argument.
