Intel series 4 graphic cards banned by anet

DirtrotDirtrot Member UncommonPosts: 9

Just a heads up to people looking at purchasing the game. I have a toshiba laptop 2 years old with an intel series 4 graphics card and have played in the first 2 betas and now cant in this last because for the card and im not the only one there are many. There were issuse in the first betas but was still able to play. Now anet has decided to blacklist the card saying they wont suport it so my options are new comp or refund. Weird that I can play Rift and other various new games and not Gw2. There could be a chance they change there minds and figure how to make them work like the other betas but I dobt it.

Not all games support all hardware, always been the case, and when using laptops there's always a big risk of incompatibility.

As I well know, having done all my gaming on laptops for many years now.

Always try to buy gaming laptops with decent nvidia or ATI cards in them, Intel is never a good idea.

I would do a refund on principle...you can always buy it again later once you have the proper hardware. If there really area lot of people with this problem, the number of refunds might change antes mind.

Those with embedded Intel video cards in the categories below may experience crashing issues or sub-optimal gameplay because such video cards which are below Guild Wars 2 minimum system requirements:

    • Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family
    • Intel® G45/G43 Express Chipset
    • Intel® G41 Express Chipset
    • Intel HD 2000 and below
    • Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family
    • Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD

In short, if you have one of these cards you won’t be able to play Guild Wars 2, with our regret.
    Thought Id post this

Refund for what reason? They have posted minimum and recommended SPECS for a while now, way before BWE#1 started.  If the person's hardware doesn't meet or match those,  and they still purchased the game, who's fault is that?  It's like buying a car before doing your driving test for your license.  That's only the operator's fault, not the developer's.

Sorry the system requirements about intel graphic cards was added just before this bw3 because of issues in the first 2 betas not bw1 dont make it sound like were the bad ones here. Ive played many of games below system requirements we all have, sheesh Gw2 is cool and all but the fanboyism is out of control anet can do no wrong.

Have you enjoyed the free beta?

I see your point tho why were we able to play the first 2 betas. I would be fine as I posted on their forum that if the game lagged so bad under my card (un payable) I would except that. As of now i cant even down load the game client without it stopping and saying my card dosnt meet requirnments yet the first 2 betas I could play with minor lag. I can play rift on this comp no problems. To me and others it seems like they had issuses and rather then adressing said issues they are turning us away. A. we should of never been able to play bw1 and bw2 but we could, now we cant even play the game peiord. Like I said this was more of a warning to other gamers I still love gw2 and will be playing on an other desktop I have, just would of been nice to play on this comp with my son is all. Weird these days that comp makers cant keep up with these games or choose to put crap cards in. One gals sony vio is only 1 year old and shes srewed as well.

And it won't run on my old NES, either!  The horror!

What did you expect when you tried to play a game on five year old graphics that were the ultra low end when they launched, and never did get drivers that worked right?  The problem isn't ArenaNet.  The problem is Intel.

More seriously, I think gaming companies should have other priorities besides trying to make games magically run on non-functional graphics chips.

Would it really be better if they let you try to play it, and then a few months after release, the game no longer ran on the laptop?  Intel GMA 4 graphics has what, maybe 5% of the performance of Radeon HD 7660G laptop integrated graphics?  I can understand needing to support something somewhat slower than modern laptop integrated graphics.  But you can only go so far.

So we're supposed to pay for voluntary charity work now? Screw that.

I dont want to lead you on

its possible you may be able to play come release

GW2 issued known hardware issues for this BWE3 that will hopefully be resolved by retail

I think the main issue is not that the card the OP is using is subspec but that ANet has set up the game to detect this and prevent the OP from even logging into the game.

They have said on the beta forums though that they are looking into this and will be posting a new build to try and resolve it.  A new build was just put out, so try again now and see if you can get on.

Sigh...again this was a heads up post might of saved some folks that have 2 year old laptops and in some case 1 year old laptops that think they can play gw2 since they can play other games like Rift skyrim ect. Yes now my knowledge of Intel cards is way better after this and yes there junk.

You know, when I played SWTOR during the beta I found the same thing my PC could run the game but not well, then they show the minimum requirements and hey my card was lower than that, with GW2 same story so at the end I end buying a new card, no for those games, was because my card was crap and I couldn't play  a lot of games.

The card is really crappy and I can understand ANETs decision, even if they have to refund some people it is worse that they gets a buggy gameexperience, words like that gets around and they could loose a lot more in decreased sales if people tells their friends that the game is in bad shape.

Gaming laptops are pretty expensive and if you buy one you must get one with a good graphics card. Intels built in are not good at all.

My recommendation is that you get a cheap desktop to have at home while using the laptop for your mobile needs like school or work and travel. You can easily build an acceptable desktop for $600 or buy a pre assembled one for $800. Just avoid brand computers and have the people at your local geekshop build one for you.

If you can´t afford that I am afraid you are out of luck. GW2s graphics is really a lot better than Rifts so I am not surprised you can play it (but I doubt you can get it look half as good as it does on a acceptable desktop). It is far from unlikely that ANET will fix so you can play it after launch but right now their priorities are finnishing the game. Later optimization usually halps a lot for low end users but that does not help you on launchdate.

Sorry mate, but you bought a rather crappy laptop.:(

as noted not supported doesnt  mean dont work just means its highly unlikely to work

Is a Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT too weak for this game? My previous card was a NVIDIA Geforce GT 220.

I am using an Intel Series 4 card now. I can play GW2.

Does it perform well? Not in the least. About 6-10 FPS when there are lot of other players on screen, but as you go to other areas where there are not a lot of people it can go up to about 15-20.

To me personally, it's playable. Barely, but playable. I've never gotten any error message about my card being unsupported and have absolute no access to the game.

You could also use a program such as 3D Analyze to make GW2 register your Intel Series 4 card as a different GPU, but you'll still have to live with the low performance.

A GeForce GT 220 is easily an order of magnitude faster than the Intel GMA 4 series graphics that the original poster has, even if it's a crippled DDR2 version.  A GeForce 8800 GT is considerably faster yet.  This is not a thread about real video cards from the last five years failing to work, or even integrated graphics from the last four, excluding Atom netbooks.  Any of those would be vastly more powerful than the graphics that the original poster has.

pre purchase was available before they posted those, right? If that is the case then refund the man for sure, hell since this game is video game jesus they should refund him or anyone else for any reason.
