Let them add mounts... but the only mount available is a cow, no speed or any buff at all (purely cosmetic) and only a cash shop item... for a little extra you get an extra animation of loading your mount on a trebuchet or drop it on a fallen foe in PvP.. :)

What can men do against such reckless hate?

You can already do that - no need for mounts =)

There's little risk for that I think... actually I'm confident it will never happen. The world is just not designed for flying mounts, even if Anet had the stupid idea of wanting to add them.

Not to mention, flying mounts would ruin jumping puzzles, skill challenges and the fun of exploring.

If they have some additional functionality like combat, that's fine and nice, but I'd be fine if they were only just fancy speed buffs too, I just simply love to ride with creatures in fantasy games/mmo's (and with vehicles in scifi/modern games). One of the biggest shortcomings and immersion breakers of GW2 for me, the lack of mounts. Sure there's portals everywhere and quick travel (lazy), but I'd still rather ride [insert mount creature here] since it's fun.

But waah waah that makes everyone just skip content! - Well my friend, I'd be totally happy if it was a max level thing, so I couldnt "skip content" while leveling (I dont even know what the hell the "skipping content" means in a mmorpg, it's a huge world where I do what I want to do, as long as it's possible).

Just no flying mounts please, personally I dont find them very immersive if everyone has them since they are exotic by nature even in fantasy world usually, and they are boring since with flying mounts you kind of remove the physical world from around you. If enough people want these too, I suppose go for it, I dont need to use them my self if I dont want to. Edit: Yeah no flying mounts, jumping puzzles and so on! :P

flying mounts really won't be put into this title, but i can see them putting ground mounts in the future especially since they stated they would be doing this so really there's no hurry until they release the game first :)

Voted couldn't care less. I don't think they're needed, but it wouldn't bother me if they're there.

In GW2 that means noone traveling will stop to rez or help anyone anymore, because it's just too much of a nuisance to dismount, rez, mount, and thus be counterproductive to the ideal and experience of the game.

Even if we never get mounts, there will be many idiot selfish people who never stop to rez / help and they rush through mobs and events just to reach their destination ASAP.

I dont see horses fitting this setting, high speed travel ruining much of the immersion, allowing people to bypass things, its a big NO from me

i would like a pet mount. For example, i buy a horse (or tame a wild one), then i get my horsie and take care of it. Horse can starve and decrease performance (run slower until fed?), if you dont feed it for certain amount of time it will die and you have to get a new horse or maybe use an item to revive yours.

As you take care of your horse it will gain experience and at certain point (level) your horse can be upgraded to a war horse that can have armor and mounted combat. A war horse can have a set of skills on its own (like the weapon sets) so you can swap between the horse set skills and your weapon set skills.

i would love to see that. Also please NO flying mounts, they would make jumping puzzles useless.

edit: each race can have its type of mount, just dont add 1000000000 different mounts to collect. just 1 type per race is fine

I think every fantasy mmo should have mounts but i would leave how they can be used and or are implemented into gw2 without screwing the game up for anet to decide..

IF DONE RIGHT THEN SURE MUST KEEP IN MIND LORE AND GAME MECHANICS(Just a note not yelling lol)

People already said it but mounts will need to be balanced and also made for where in WVWVW a ground fighter will have a chance against a mounted player. Can't make em OP, I think just making them have speed and maybe skills based on the mount have attack power like elites and then other attacks same or less stronger than being on foot.

Kind of like underwater combat changes your skills you could change it once on mount and make attacks weaker but your spedd faster of course. Then have mounts with cons and pros like horses can't go under water but a Drake can go under water yet weaker on land compared to a horse, just an example.

Far as air I think Guild Air ships that move slow could support air but must be raidable somehow by enemies.

    That's just my 2 cents.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

Why does mounts have to be horses when we have a vast fantasy setting? Actually running everywhere ruins immersion rather than mounts tbh, it's very inconvenient and not very realistic when people are carrying tons of stuff, put 50kg-100kg stuff into backpack and tell me how far you ran, please. You can bypass things on foot too, just go around them, you have to go around them with mount too, what makes you think you can survive a pack of monsters trying to run them through with a mount?

  • WorstluckWorstluck Member Posts: 1,269

I don't care either way.  I would be ok if they did not add them, however if they did I would use them of course.  Mounts can be cool not only be for transportation, but for role playing, immersion and they can also be something else to collect, so in those regards I would like to see them.

  • terrantterrant Member Posts: 1,683

There's just no practical need for the,. In overland travel, waypoints and such are close enough together that you can easily get to them within a minute or so at worst. Once a waypoint is tagged, you can return to it instantly.

I can see a mount as a "bundle" that allows for some mounted combat but doesn't work indoors, but a mount as a runspeed buff just serves no purpose.

  • friednietzfriednietz Member Posts: 118

No thanks. I never want to see a mount in GW2 unless it's well designed and not a glorified speed buff. In many themparks, you have to dismount or you're auto-dismounted during combat. This means their only purpose(s) is(are) for cash shop revenue, epeen and/or speed boosts. Some other reasons I hope they're never implemented are:

    1. The waypoint system is far superior in getting you to area locations at a reasonable rate with a good gamewide goldsink. Moreover, many skills and consumables provide very nice speed boosts already.

    2. The utter annoyance of themepark mounts far, far outweigh the small bit of epeen growth they provide to some. The constant neighing of asses being spammed? The inability of developers produce well designed grounded mounts? The clutter they cause in packed areas? None are worth it.

    3. They are often designed visually to be very flamboyant and gaudy in the same vein as cash shop aviator sunglasses and modern beachwear.

Also, do we really want to see a huge mount standing on jumping puzzles' edges, small platforms and planks?

It would be interesting to see mounts as a tool rather then just transportation.   For example GW2 prides itself on exploration,  what if each mount was a tool,  one mount could jump much higher than the player, while another would be able to glide.  What this does is creates another dimension to exploration,  and open up areas that were previously closed off in the earlier areas but no accessible cause the player has obtained a tool that allows the player to explore and find a new DE, etc.

Currently it still feels a lot of the exploration is on the horizontal axis and by opening up a Z axis of exploration, the maps become much more replayable and interesting.   In any game, a great map doesn't reveal everything at once but gets the player build curiosity and surpise the player with something new but in a familiar zone.

  • ScalplessScalpless Member UncommonPosts: 1,426

Hmm, interesting. So, it looks like people who want speed boost mounts are a minority.

I would not object to mounts, but they don't seem necessary.

1: The poll is very poorly designed. What kind of answer is "No,but I wouldn't mind" or "no, I don't like mounts"? The first one doesn't make sense at all and the second one is just odd.

2: No mounts for me, it amazes me how many bad ideas that have been floating around this forum lately. Mounts are a bad idea for the simple reason that it would just cheapen the game experience, it would also cripple the sense of scale you get from running around on foot.

3: Adding mounts only to pvp would make just as little sense like removing the "downed mechanic" for pvp!

Edit:  Purely as an aesthetic ground based feature, no speed buff or other perks... then maybe.

I'd love mounts if there was good mounted combat.  I think it's kind of stupid that you have to stop, get off your mount, and then fight.  Considering that all the weaponry and magic used in the game could be used while mounted, I don't see a reason why they can't have mounted combat.  And just like true mounted combat, there should be some advantages vs. foot and some disadvantages as well = balance.

I would also be ok with a slight speed boost - say, 10%.  I think much more than that allows for too much of an advantage in combat - unless combat had a disadvantage built in that would negate much of the speed.  For instance, if mounts gave 33% normal travel speed boost, when in combat, the speed is reduced to 10% and then make it possible for a foot soldier to knock the mounted player off their mount.  I think something to that effect could work, and could be a lot of fun as well.  :)

If there were only speed boost mounts, I'd be ok with that, but a little dissapointed if there was no mounted combat.  I personally don't care if someone else has the ability to blow past content and exploration.  It doesn't ruin my immersion.  In fact, it kind of enhances it because irl people blow past life's content all the time.  :P
