It was a real pain to have a horse following you through a dungeon and everything wanting to kill it. The only people that consistantly had a mount were the people that had a vet reward mount that could be shrunk and placed in your bag.

Nothing else in GW2 is this complex. You really just run around and kill stuff while achievements pop up on your screen.

Only if they are the same speed as normal running. I don't wanna be forced to mount and dismount every 30 seconds

  • SuperDonkSuperDonk Member UncommonPosts: 759

If they implemented new skills while being mounted that would be awesome. It could be like the skills for weapons/shield/etc. Your main hand would be the first three skills, while your mount would be the last two. Different weapon/mount combos for different skill combos.

But I wouldn't mind it for just a speed boost or cosmetic either. Nor would I have a probelm with them in WvW, the maps are huge, and running back after getting killed can get old.

Technically, the game already has mounts, in the forms of things like the golems.

As long as they're things like that, I don't see much difference between riding a horse and having your character still visible, with a different set of skills, and riding a golem without your character visible, with a different set of skills.

I agree they shouldn't be a flat speed boost, though having a skill that adds swiftness or something probably wouldn't be out of line.

You can forget getting mounts used for transportation. They are completely against the world design. You have golems, trebuchets, arrow karts, guns, lasers.... You won't see horses, or mountable charrs in this game.

I bet we'll see horses in at least one place!

    Orr.

Haha, undead horses were the only horses running around in GW1.

I think all the horses lived on Orr before it sank. :(

Best times was accidently hitting the horse and it turning on you. In turn you having to put it down.. hahha..

Perhaps just another item in the Gem Store.

No because the game is made in a way that does not require any. Imagine how bad WvW would be if everyone was on a mount....

When do people accept this is a different game.

Copying everything form other games would just make it more of the same, i am really glad they choose the portal system.

This is a game that makes all content challenging, including low level scaled content. high speed horses would allow people to bypass content. I think that should never happen.

On top of that the lore clearly makes mention of no horses or other mounts being availalbe.

This gives both technical aas lore based reasons why there should be no mounts. Why cant people just accept these facts as they are part of the vision of Arenanet.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Game was not designed with mounts in consideration.

Than add them for what purpose ? Because you like watching horse butt when you walking ?

Personally, I could see ANet adding them in an expansion, with mounted combat being a bit like underwater combat - a completely separate and well-developed system. However, I'd hate to see typical MMO mounts that are just speed buffs that go poof every time you enter combat and look stupid.

    The poll is useless

Arenanet already stated that they don't like the idea of having mounts as speed buffs

So we won't get speed buff mounts any time soon.

Where is the "I want a cosmetic only mount" option?

A game like Guild Wars 2 doesn't need mounts. There are enough waypoint saving you alot of time running, so no to mounts!

  • ennymithennymith Member UncommonPosts: 121

I agree, with waypoints mounts just take up space, and credits usually.

I have played/play other games with glorius mount, even flying ones, but I really don't miss them.

I prefer the cooperative almost non-stop action GW2 offers.

There are other things Anet needs to finish/polish up first, like the WvW que and process, and they need to add a Looking for Group feature that works.

I think mounts are extremely convenient to have and I am very disappointed GW2 doesn't have them. Nothing sucks worse in MMOs then having to run everywhere, especially when you are covering the same old ground over and over again and having to fight mutliple mobs to get to your destination. Lack of mounts does not increase immersion level, but frustration level. There is a reason getting your first mount was such an epic event for so many people in games like WoW. Flying mounts in particular are excellent at getting you to where you want to go quickly while bypassing the trashmob gauntlets you always have to run in these games, which destroy immersion by turning every  journey into a frustrating chore. Mounts in Rift sucked because anything could knock you off them which defeated the purpose of having them. In no way do flying mounts killl immersion for me but rather increase it, by adding a new dimension  to the game experience in the form of sky travel. You still have to fight on the ground.

I could care less about some silly platforming puzzle game and it is possible to make flying mounts not work in or around these games.

Waypoints solve this issue, they are scattered all over the place so you never have to cover the old ground over and over to reach your destination.

If you haven't played in a BWE or Stress Test and experienced the PVE then please revise your opinion on mounts until release.

I can appreciate why everybody wants mounts but because people want them is not a good enough justification to include something that impacts on world design.

The way point system is fantastic and better than any other mmo I have played in terms of mobility. Including mounts on the whim of the community would go completely against Arena Nets methodology. The community shouldn't be pandered too when it comes down to items that will impact gameplay and the feel of the world.

I personally think mounts would be a slap on the face in terms of lore. That is why I personally am against mounts in GW2 - there haven't been any in GW1, there shouldn't be any in GW2.

Sure, there's been dolyaks, siege turtles, and wagons drawn by ox - but those are slow moving beasts of burden for transportation of goods, not mounts.

  • ThrennieThrennie Member UncommonPosts: 107

I like mounts. I like collecting mounts in whichever games supports them and have a wide range of different models. But saying that I feel there's no need for them within GW2  as the waypoint system creates a far easier method to travel to different locations.

Ah well, at least there's still the vanity pets for me to collect. :D

GW1 had siege devourers and wurms, with their separate skill sets. Of course, normal horses would look really stupid and out of place, but ANet can always invent some exotic, lore-friendly mounts. So, I think it would be possible, but looks like it's not really needed.

If you mean that little stupid icon of a horse in your inventory that appears in a puff of smoke after a 2 second casttime? No, fuck no.

If you mean mounts like in Skyrim? ... Maybe.

Honestly, we have teleportation devices, i'm not sure i understand why you'd want mounts.

Both siege devourers and wurms were very location-specific, and you actually had to fight against them to earn their respect. Once for wurms, for siege devourers every time you wanted to use them. Wurms couldn't burrow on rocky ground either, so the lore itself places pretty tight limits on using these as mounts.

I fully agree, Anet cares about their lore. I do not want to see any mounts in the game at all.

I admit the wurm idea is far-fetched, but you're wrong about siege devourers. Charr used them as weapons, so you did not fight over their respect, but to knock the rider off. So, using devourers as mounts and weapons wasn't uncommon in GW1 and smaller devourers could be used as mounts in GW2 without bending the lore. They're just an example from GW1, though. There are many other creatures that could be used as mounts, such as drakes, wolves and Asuran golems. IMO the real question is whether this game needs any mounts.
