In my country, DSL Internet access is not limited in any way (except bandwidth of course), so I couldn't care less.
That's great, because it isnt about you, you asked why other people would be enticed by a steam version of gw2.
Nice "force the customer into a monopoly" system you describe there btw, I'm glad not to be forced into such stuff.
Hmm its an international offer from steam....there are mirrors across the globe (participating isp's have their mirrors too)that offer this. And how can this not be a good thing offering customers this flexibly?.
Forced? you must be joking. how can anyone be forced to do anything in this conversation. Isnt that they key argument from gw2 supporters, "you dont have to use the cash shop" "you dont have to pvp" you dont have to ..."
You wouldnt have to buy from steam if it were available.

If steam offers unlimited downloading on an otherwise restricted Internet access, it's a way to "force" people to download games there rather than at other places. Maybe "force" is a bit too strong, but it's a... big incentive, at the least
I edited my previous post to add that I understand your position btw - sorry if it came a bit late, I totally understand why YOU would like GW2 to be downloadable on Steam.
What is your monthly limit btw?

Me personally? 250GB at @60/pm60 Australian dollars for 250GB? Wow... (no pun =P)... that's like 51 Euros. You guys really get screwed, I'm sincerely sad for you.
I pay 21 Euros (25 AUD) for a totally unlimited access (no restrictions at all).
I noticed all the other Guild Wars are on steam, anyone know if GW2 will be on there too?
No. Anet and Valve had a disagreement and as such, GW2 will not be on Steam.

Keep in mind the GW2 client is free to download from our web site and has no copy protection. (And if it's really important, you can add non-Steam games to your Steam library.)
That quote doesn't make sense to me and is factually false.
There are MMOs on Steam, EVE-Online (Sub), DDO (F2P) etc.
ANet had a disagreement with Value, fine. But I found that attack on Steam really unprofessional and expected better.
Notice he used the words "new MMOs". EVE and DDO aren't exactly new.
than rift is new one or is it also old for you . huh huh huh ?

RIFT was March 2011. The MT through Steam came June 2011 along with their F2P offer. They managed to release their game 3 months before Steam introduced that.
Its funny seeing people rip on Steam, blissfully unaware how it has resurected PC gaming. Try finding all those games Steam has in a store on the back wall in the one and only rack that has pc games. Most people would probably never even have heard of a lot of the great indie games Steam has. Yes, Steam has been awful for PC gaming.

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

Unless we are renaming 'B2P' to 'F2P' your post doesn't make sense.
Is Diablo3 'essentially free to play PLUS you have to buy the 'box'?
Blizzard can use whatever marketing terms they like but in my book if a game or service has a micro transaction system or an "in game shop" - free to play. Also remember, diablo 3 is not an mmorpg.
Mmorpg's are sold a service fun fact read your terms of use.
If I brought CiV5 - its a multiplayer game with numerous purchasable expansion packs. - not b2p or free to play.
Actually, all online games, and any game that requires you to register online is a rented service. You own almost no game these days, just the ability to play it. Sad really.

I don't see much ripping going on here. Steam hsa been great for PC gaming, but its new rules are not very healthy for games that are MT based, such as most MMOs.
I like steam and I like gw2 . Steam wants cut from online store for game it sells and obviously for Anet it is simply not worth to sell gw2 through steam. They can't agree on terms selling gw2 ? Tbh, I couldnt care less . And I dont understand why it bothers you ppl, you can add gw2 to steam anyway and I dont see gw2 being 50% discounted anytime soon - it's mmo not single player game.
