You do know that only MLAA and FXAA actually do anything to 'textures' and essentially the traditional forms of AA only affect the edges of polygons?
had the same argument with someone over AA in TSW a lot of people for whatever reason think CSAA, MSAA, and the likes improves texture quality.
I think people just don't understand that a lot of what they see in games are transparant textures and that traditional AA just doesn't even know those things exist. A good screenshot comparison can be done in Counter Strike by looking at the wire frame models for fences and trees as can be seen on the first page of this article - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2006/04/07/transparency_adaptive_aa_explained/1

which is why games you can force sgssaa look so crisp its crazy. SWTOR you can force sgssaa it cleans up everything at 8x it kills pretty much any gpu and will keep it maxed at 100% all the time though heh. But once yuo see a game at 8x sgssaa its hard not to notice the little things other forms of AA don't clean up

Yeah, another game I *highly* recommend sgssaa on is Eve online, that slow up and down movement you get while stationary in space makes my eyes bleed even while running extremely high levels of MSAA but a nice low dose of sgssaa stops it dead.
[EDIT]
Rather than posting again I would just like to say that I am very happy with the FXAA in GW2. It isn't as brilliant at getting rid of the jaggies as I would like but for me at 5280x1050 it takes 2 FPS to turn it on.. any other form of AA at that kind of resolution is a *serious* workload for any gpu setup.

at that resolution you shouldn't need much in the way of AA anyway unless you are on like a 32+ inch monitor:). But I agree FXAA is sufficient in this game overall if you don't mind a little blur although I still prefer SMAA in this game but many aren't comfortable with injectors

Anyway, does this disussion mean that it is better to leave the nVidia Control Panel alone and handle graphics in each application?
it means forcing anything in the panel as far as straight AA will have no effect in game. You may think you get an effect because when you turn OFF in game FXAA it sharpens up the screen since FXAA adds a blur to everything. You will get increased jaggies with FXAA off but some people don't even notice. Really depends how much you notice differn't forms of aliasing in games.

I've got a few uploaded to http://coroder.minus.com/m1rrBateo/1f - You can download them to have a look at the aliasing in game if you want. I was only running the default renderer with FXAA on those. All other settings were maxed. Next chance I get I will try some SMAA injectors and maybe do a few smaller screenshots to show as a comparison to explain why some people think it is better with forced settings.

great shots!.. if you do try smaa in this game change the default preset in the ini file to ultra looks a little better and almost no change in performance at least on my rig.

There's no point, he doesn't care that he has no idea what is happening when he picks some settings over others. Let him play with 32xCSAA all he wants.. the fact it has no performance hit at all would have been the wakeup call for any sane person that it wasn't actually doing anything.
I actually read the OPs posts. I think I know exactly what he experienced. Turning Post Processing down or off makes the game look MUCH better, because the Post Processing bloom and depth of field blur, in spite of what the tooltip implies, makes the game look worse, IMHO.
I prefer it completely off myself and today I noticed the game has never looked better.
(I actually have a number of screens from BWE3 with Post Processing on and I was so disappointed with them, I scrapped plans to share them online. Luckily, I figured out what was going on before I took the CC screenshots I shared last week).

its a combo of this and turning off FXAA that sharpens everything up which I pointed out to him in this thread yet he still seems to not care and believes I'm lying to him. Post processing adds the bloom effect which also adds some overall blur when you add this to FXAA you get a LOT of blur which is more noticable to some people than others. I also play with post processing OFF all the way because I think the game looks way better without the effect.

So in the end. What are the best setting ingame and in the panel?
by that i mean default in panel or AA on or off . ?
in your control panel for your graphics card just leave all AA settings at application controlled. In GW2 options it really depends on personal preference. For me I play on highest settings BUT i have post processing OFF, Reflections set to Terrain & Sky, Shadows to High(ultra makes such a small difference it's not worth it), then if you use SMAA injector turn FXAA off or if you don't want to use SMAA just turn FXAA on.
Now depending on your system you may need to turn things down but if you have a decent system you should be able to run with these settings and get a good framerate

To OP, like everyone has said, forcing AA through the control panel does nothing for this game, and many others. Check your video card ram usage with MSI afterburner. It will not increase since it is not doing anything.
FFXA blurs the entire screen, which is why when you turn it off, it looks sharper, however you will not get smooth edges. The reason they use this is because it uses almost nothing for ram or GPU, so it is very effective for low end computers.
Take a screenshot with FFXA off, AA override off, and then take another one with FFXA off, AA override on. You will see zero difference. Anytthing you are claiming to see right now is a placebo effect. Rather than insulting and claiming you know everything, read what you are being told and learn something new. The only person you are fooling is yourself.
You guys need to Install Nvidia Insector which allows you to change the settings for the Nvidia Application profiles - in here you can change the AA rules. By Default for GW2 they are set to ignore any changes you make in the Nvidia Control Panel - meaning that no matter what you set in here the game ignores it.
Nvidia Inspector allows you to change the behaviour so Changing the Rule to 'Override Application Settings' you can then set your AA within the profile and it makes a hell of a difference.
I didn't know this used deferred rendering. That explains some of the localized slowdowns in performance.
Does GW2 have a setting switching to forward rendering?

the 2nd one is of course with pp effects on (like bloom etc.)
