As i said before, its a shame, trickery and they should be punnished for this, because as long as authorities dont act against things like this, Companies will keep and try abuse it.

This is just a case of reading before clicking.

Same thing that's wrong with MMO communities nowdays.

Well, thats the problem, there was nothing to read...  And more obvious they didnt ask me to submit a payment methode for my subscription.  In this case Its not the community but the company.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Reversing charges like this will also get banned from a website/MMORPG. You know what is worse? Getting banned from Amazon! A friend of mine got banned because he did a chargeback. So that is what all companies do. But in his case he is blacklisted from using Amazon ever again :D So now he can't use the same address + name combination ever!

But yeah you signed up to a recurring sub service and autorenews automatically so you have to cancel before payment is due.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

I hate to use logic on the internet as it seems odd to so many but here it goes.

CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT AFTER ANY AND ALL PAYMENTS IF YOUR BROKE SO LATER YOU DONT GET A CHARGE YOU CAN NOT AFFORD!

I had kept paying for EvE Online a few years back when I was down, no internet or anything.  I would go to a friends or Mc Donalds to jump on a quick wifi to load up some more skills because I could manage the sub with my ingame isk and keep training for my later return.

I still cancel most every game I am sub'ed to after paying just because I hate not actively paying for something.

I started playin TSW on the 3 day headstart (preordered the game), and until 02.08 I had roughly 16 days of played time, meaning I dedicated alot of time to this game. Regardless, my financial situation is bad and I was not going to sub the game, and was just waiting for the 1 month free time to expire. They sent me an email on 02.08 reminding me to manually renew the game subscription for another month - I use Paypal. I thought to myself: I wish I could, nice little title etc, but no can do right now.

4 hours later, 15 EUR were billed on my Paypal account to Funcom WITHOUT my authorization whatsoever. They just took my data and BILLED me. I did not signed up for any form of automatic subscription or payment method, I didn't need to because I am an old AoC player (who has been disappointed with FC before, but this is much more aggravating).

I proceeded to contact FC via email, since their live chat is worthless, and was answered I could not get a refund because it was a Paypal transaction. I then proceeded to file a Paypal dispute, which obviously was solved in my favour. Result: I got my 15 EUR back - which I never inteded to give FC in the first place - AND HAD MY ACCOUNT BANNED. Yeah, Funcom permanently banned my account because I filed the Paypal claim.

Now I will not be able to play TSW unless I give them another 50 EUR which is obviously never going to happen. I then proceeded to file another Paypal dispute describing this situation and got my 50 EUR back, since I cannot use the product I paid for due to an arbitrary and unjustified decision of the seller.

This is my short story to you, as cool as the game might look, sooner or later it will become just another endless gear treadmill - literally. Endgame content resumes in 5 Dungeons you grind every 16h to get a currency named Bullion, which you use to buy Vendor gear and upgrade them from tier 10 to 10.4. This is endgame. The skill wheel is a good way to make you think you have possibilities, but in fact you are pigeonholed to DPS, healer or Tank role and there is very few skills that work for said roles. LFG is also based on your gear score, so fellow WoW players would feel like home.

Despite of this being just another generic game, I liked it and was intending to play it in the future, but looking from my perspective now, I am kinda thankful to Funcom for their incompetence which led me to receive my money back and take my girl to a fine dinner tonight, which ended up in sweet love.

Stay away from Funcom and don't be fooled by their marketing of this game. They are incompetent and this game is crap.

    Best regards,

    Knuckle

Yes OP almost your same story here as well, but in AOC lucky for me my old CC wasn't working so ofc they did Ban me, even tho the payment they requested came after i quite the game in 9 months :).

am going to call it Funnycom

Funny as I have been playing Funcom games for a long time , also played many other mmorpgs in my life and not once had I had the issues you had with the sub.

Little hint, for myself I tend to read and reread everything to make sure what exacly I am buying, it tends to help.

Not trying to be an ass here , but some times they word it differently , depends on the company.

How many times have we heard this same story from different companys as well.

Players waiting till the last minute to cancel in which you have 30 days to cancel, use your brain next time.

Except that other games don't use your payment of the game box and that first free month as part of the contract for the monthly sub.  Or if they do, they tell you about in nice big bold letters and with a check box to agree to.  This one did not.  So get off your high horse.

Nothing personal and I am not addressing you, but if you can't figure out how to cancel when you got 30 days to figure out the account page, it's your fault, not Funcom or any other company.

TO MAKE BIG BOLD LETTERS TO SAY 'CANCEL' HERE, seriously.. What kind of player to do take me for.

I don't think the OP had an issue with finding out how to cancel.  His issue was that he wasn't aware he had to cancel anything because he, like myself, thought the subscription past the first free month wasn't set up.  I, personally, have a 6th sense when it comes to my subs and I went to check to be sure that they didn't bamboozle me and set it up anyway.  Which they did.  So I was able to cancel my sub before they pulled money from me.  I'm still not happy about not knowing they had set a sub up, though.  Lately 3 games have pulled this crap, Earthrise, Tera and now TSW.  Never had this issue with SWTOR or other MMO in the past 10 years.

I hear you elocke and understand where your coming from, however I have never had a problem with Funcom myself, but I did with a couple of other mmo titles in the past, one of them was 'LoTRO' before it went to F2P, but Turbine rectified themselves and credited me.

For every one person who has some strange billing or customer service problem, tens of thousands don't. I've had good experiences so far.  To pretend this is the experience everyone is getting from Funcom, is ludicrous.

    ----

The game is a themepark.  The setting, graphics, some of the puzzle mechanics, and the ability to change and hold multiple roles in a group make it more fun than most themeparks, but it's still just a themepark.

They are all the same, and 30 days into Guild Wars 2, I suspect everyone is going to feel the same way about it though more people will realize they have nothing else new to play and will probably just keep playing it.  A lot of people have been playing the BWE's and find that once you get past the fancy repackaging of standard themepark features, it's still more of the same.

The point is, themepark = story driven contrived content, gear grind, PvP, and raiding.  That's about it.  That's all you are getting in any pure themepark.  Until something actually innovative and new comes along, all you can do is pick one you like most, or leave the genre.

I personally consider TSW to be the best themepark game ever made from the standpoint of actually being interesting and feeling hand-crafted.  Even WoW failed to emmerse me in the game world like this.  I prefer something more along the lines of a sandbox (or hybrid) but we clearly have no viable options for that yet.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

There was no cancel option when I logged into their website. NOOOONNNEEEE. This is 100% of why I have a problem for being billed the extra 14.99.

There was no cancel option for me either. I spent a good 5 minutes looking before I just deleted my Paypal info. I didn't get charged though.

Lucky you. I was charged despite not signing up for their SARL on Paypal or through their own website. They simply took my Paypal information and sent me the bill. Ridiculous.

I can only speak to my own experiance.

I've had 3 accounts with Funcom, for me and my 2 boys. We played AOC on and off and I've never had a problem with billing. When I cancelled accounts atleast 9 times between the 3 accounts, I've never been incorrectly billed.

So I take claims like this with a grain of salt.

If I accomplish anything by telling my story here, I hope people are a little more responsible when it comes to these things. Making sure your account is cancelled, and making sure you don't have any surprise charges or anything on your bank statement.

The one thing I could have done that I didn't was contact their support to make absolutely sure 100% I would not be billed before the 30 days expired. But I assumed their web page was telling me correctly that they weren't going to bill me.

I with you on this MindTrigger.

    On another subject at hand..

I am honestly tired of all these Themepark MMO's despite a few that raised my eyebrow like TSW, but until Repop, ArcheAge or World of Darkness is released, we will be caught in this endless Themepark mmo fiasco.

I can confirm there was no cancel option on my account page either.  I just removed my credit card payment option and took a screenshot of the confirmation page for my records.  I just assumed it was the usual bullcrap that FC likes to feed us.  Anywho, no charges were made to my CC.

A word of advice to the OP though, FC is a master at forum trolling and manipulating.  I would venture a guess that they have MMORPG FC-related forums under their grasp too.  So there's no point in arguing it here.  Just state your case and move on to a better game.

FC is terrible. When I wanted to cancel my subscription, I couldn't find any option for that. I wrote to customer service asking how to cancel my subscription/account so that I would not be charged for the new month. Off course, I never got any reply. Few days later, I managed to find some option to cancel account/subscribtion/method payment, but it wasn't very clear.

This is true, this post has moved from General Discussion to "reviews" because less people now will see the true joke that Funcom is. At least I got my money back.

So this means that Paypal can not be trusted?

You just said that a company can send a bill to Paypal without me agreeing to it on/at Paypal?

I have had my gripes with Paypal for being to uptight, but this seems thay can not be trusted either if they let buy orders through without a concent.

I would not believe that if this is the case that it would only be Funcom that can do it.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
