I'd be happy with a coin lock feature like Rift has. Works like a charm...

Coin lock is a very simple but effective feature. Best security feature I have every seen in any MMO

Well according to the OP he is expressing EVERYONE is wanting the console-game-shoved -on -to -the -pc- theme park online game. I'm not even sure this game is considered to be a mmo just because it has persistence now. So much instancing is still being used like the personal story and map travel. How do you map travel in a mmo ? MMOs are supposed to be worlds not the weekend stay at your favorite shoreline that happens only a 2-3 times in the summer.
SWTOR,WAR,AOC and many others....promised features and content and then didn't deliver them...
GW2 promised features and content and then delivered them....as evidenced by the BWE's...
That tells me I can trust them more then most MMO releases....
This thread tells me that people who enjoy working a 2nd job and calling it a game are still butthurt GW2 isn't catering to them....
Well we still should be humble atleast fans, because the only thing A- NET has yet to prove is if what they are doing will remain consistant and their views remain true.
Like we know so far GW2 isn't P2W
So far all the features they promised is there
Now we as fans should see and hope they stick to that post release.
Though that's what I'm doing at least, because every company have fans that trust them, but then they screw them in the end. A-NET does get a plus 1 for GW 1 though because they never went against their philosophy on that game. Hope I made sense lmao.

Plenty of people still trust Blizzard. Else D3 would sell that well. It's just part of us that got disappointed with the direction they took eventually. Can happen to every company out there as it's impossible to please everyone equally. I'm not ashamed nor regretting years I've put into WoW. Got my moneys worth even including sub fee and expac costs.
The thing is, that so far, Arena Net didn't really disappoint at any major front, and that's a difference from all the recent MMO releases that promised mountains of gold and barely delievered molehills. It's not perfect, but the devs know it, they are open in communicating what will make the releasse and what is reserved for post launch work, they interact, they answer questions, they are present. Which is really rare as of late when it comes to gaming companies in general. If they keep at it, even if part of playerbase will eventually get bored, there will be enough of people to keep them going.
Arenanet hasnt dissapointed at any major front? Literally the ONLY thing they have done/released was original guild wars and associated guild wars products. They havent had a chance to dissapoint.
All the trust in Arenanet to me is hilarious. GW1 was not an mmo by any stretch of the imagination, so you can't use that as a reference point for trust that they're not gonna screw up a real MMO. So, literally all of this is blind faith
"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."
It's something that is often overlooked but it is probably the most fundamental aspect that all players subconciously desire. Why do players always ask about longeivity of a game? why do they always speculate about success? or sub numbers? Why are many players wary of f2p or port games? It is because they want to know if they can trust an mmorpg company with their INVESTMENT.
when gamers dive into an mmorpg, it is like they are starting an account at a bank. They tell the bank "Hey, i will start this account with you and from now on this is where i will be storing all (virtual) money i make, my achievements, and my time investment for the next few months/years or whatever." What we as the players expect the bank to reply is that "OK, sure. I promise to keep your investment safe, to make sure we use this money to better our services (expansions, patches, balances and not to just pocket everything), to keep it secure (hacks, password stealing, bots, etc), listen to and value your feedback, and to above all, NOT TO JUMP SHIP AND MAKE A RUN FOR IT JUST BECAUSE SUBSCRIBER BASE DIPS by 10%.
Instead, nowadays with all the wow clones and console-style themepark games, the traditional expectations of trust has been raped and violated. Companies nowadays lie to us about future updates and patches, never listen to our complaints and concerns, and jump ship as soon as soon as the going gets rough. They tell us that they plan to make a happy home for us for the next few years while in the back of their minds they are already planning for an escape route after their user base discovers that the game is shallow and leaves after the first month. Whats worst is that most big game companies accept this as the current business model: Make your money with the first month, "founders" packs, and the first month subs, and then GTFO as fast as they can.
Hopefully arenanet will restore this trust in us gamers. If they can maintain this trust, then they will truly succeed and maybe even topple the aging behemoth that is WoW..

there is enough in gw1 to compare to a real mmorpg. Skill system/combat, Economy&trade(Yes guild wars had a very good economy), graphics/models/skins, PVP balance, PVE balance, dungeons, lore/story, quests, events, retaining a fanbase, experimenting with business models to generate revenue. Sure they never connected all those things into a persistant world, but they showed a preview that they can do that in the BWE's. These people are smart and they actively learn from their mistakes. a small example, they understand how UTTERLY IMPORTANT first impressions are and that the launch day is flawless(unlike AoC, diablo 3), which is why they made are constantly doing stress tests, and refused to release a product "until its done." Also, they understand how important balance is in a game, which shows because they have been constantly balancing gw1 from the time it launched until now when they launch gw2.

if you want to call it co-rpg go right ahead, the fact is that gw1 gave many many people including myself, an mmorpg feeling that no "real" mmorpg gave.

Originally posted by Badaboom Blizzard is a bad example in terms of trust. Blizz lost a lot of customers because of how crappy D3 was/is. Trust has been broken. No more free passes for blizz. I won't buy another game from them unless it has a trial.
You, and those like you, are the vocal minority. You may see the hundreds, or even thousands, of message posts, twitter rants or blog posts about disgruntled fans and feel that Blizzard has betrayed everyone and Blizzard will fall because of it, but you're wrong. For every one of you ranting about how bad D3 was there are hundreds who played it, enjoyed it and left it at that. For them it was a game, they played and when they were done they moved on. They didn't assign some deep seeded hatred to Blizzard.
Heck, D3 has sold what, 10 million copies?!?! I'm pretty sure Blizzrd has plenty of people ready to line up for their next offering.
Like I said, D3 pissed off a lot of people. D3 has sold 10 million, you are correct, but if they ever release a D4 (i'm guessing no) then I guarantee Blizz doesn't get 50% this number. Feel free to bookmark this post.
The thing is though, I feel that D3 was just a benchmark for a RMAH for Titan, and am guessing that Titan will contain the same fail.
The thing is the "lot of people" really translates to several thousand of the MILLIONS who bought the game. That was my point. You are HIGHLY over inflating the number of disappointed people. Just because you see a whole bunch of threads on message boards about how upset people are doesn't mean the number is anywhere close to denting Blizzard. Trust me the next Blizzrd game that launches will be a mega block-buster just like every other Blizzard game.
I think the people claiming there is too much trust in Anet from fans are building a bit of a straw man. If you read the thread most people (including fans of GW2) do not trust developers.

not really
its the companys that listen to much to there playerbase that is the problem.swtor is a prime example of this, the game would of did so much better if they would of told the wow community to shut there traps
I agree with you to a point. Do you really think it's wise for a company to ignore the wishes of people paying by the month? I don't think WoW (or any game for that matter) can stay profitable if they ignore their customers. It's up to the gaming company itself to strike a balance between happy customers and a decent product.
