Months ago before I started ebta testing this game I was very excited. I had bought into the hype that GW2 was the future and was gonna do things differently but after all the beta testing I finally had to be honest with myself about the game. The truth is that GW2 is basically more of the same with a few differences.
1. No raids- ANet removed raids because they know that their PVE system is to simple and casual to support complex and difficult raiding. Raids like everything else in GW2 (like pvp) are nothing but a button mashing zergfest. Having raids would have made this all the more obvious.
2. No sub fee but cash shop oreiented which borders on P2W- One of GW2 's big selling points is that it has no sub-fee. This is a good thing but in all honesty they HAD to do this since GW2 simply doesnt have the content to justify paying a monthly sub. So instead ANet added a cash shop which gives rewards as good as the best stuff you can find in game and other things which makes it arguably Pay 2 win. And even if its not P2W at launch its obvious to anyone who is familiar with MMO's that it will end up that way.
3. Pointless zerg pvp- PvP is supposed to be the strength of GW2 but in reality it is extremely shallow. PvP basically consists of running around in zergs and punching gates for hours on end for no reason. There is no actual purpose to GW2 pvp. No ladders, rankings, and no way to build a rep because you are given a generic name so nobody knows who you are.
4. No endgame- GW2 endgame= the same stuff you were doing since level one since "everything is endgame". Once you hit 80 there is nothing to do which provides actual character progression anymore.
I really wanted this game to succeed and be great but I cant lie to myself. The fact is that GW2 is shallow and generic. Its more elves and orcs fantasy that we have seen a million times. GW2 is really just WoW minus raids and sub fees. Luckily TSW's excellent stories and atmosphere which is unique and difficult will be able to tide me over until Planetside 2 launches which will be the next big MMO that revolutionizes the genre.
i agree with alot of what u said . i also cancelled preorder after 2 BWE because the game lacks some features which are just a dealbreaker to me. be warned..gw2 fanboys will always protect their favorite game n they will blast ur ass into oblivion if u dont agree with them. this is what has become of mmorpg.com forums. this post definetly will attract some hate.
I really wonder why when the OP says he's just stating his opinion (of which he is entirely within his right to do) that over the course of 2 days I have seen 3 seperate threads in which he has been stating his opinion. Two of these started by the OP (includling this one). Why is it when simply stating an opinion he feels it's necessary to do it in 3 threads over 2 days?
OP do you not believe you've been heard? or that your opinion is so crucial to the forums that it must be thrust onto ppl over days and days via many various threads? In my own opinion might I suggest for yourself to simply walk away from extolling your views within the GW2 threads and perhaps post more on the forums of a game you do enjoy. A kind of 'turn your frown upside down' way of thinking. You know talk postitive about what you do like, rather than belittle other peoples opinions. I dunno thats just my way of thinking, But each to thier own of course and I respect that.
As to your remark of naming Aerowyn the cheerleader of GW2 in such a manner that he/she will accept no negative opinions upon the game, of all the time I have been following the game I have only seen he/she defending thier views on the game when people choose to voice thier own. But more than that I have never seen Aerowyn as some 'cheerleader' or such simply an invaluble source of video information allowing people to make the informed decisions that you personally may have benefited from before pre-ordering the game. He/she has always made it clear whatever said is thier own opinion and in my view people like that who simply hand you information to make your own informed decision are more valuble than those that simply try to state opinions as facts.
I am however glad you have found what you enjoy and know what you dislike too. With that I feel sure you'll have an enjoyable time in whatever you choose to play.
thanks for the kind words. I always try to be critical of things and look at games with a critial eye. In the past I have been very critical over flaws in games and voiced opinions about it but never went to try and straight up bash a game for no reason. Yes I'm some what overly excited about this game but mainly because after 3 beta weekends it's the most enjoyable MMO i have played in over a decade. Obviously I'm not stupid or blind enough to think this game will appeal to everyone but when the same people come back to these forums to say the exact same things again and again what else can you say but they are obviously just trying to bash and spread misinformation about the game form the context of their arguments. I made my video thread to try and help people make a decision of the game if they had not yet pre-ordered or wanted more information. So much information is out there on this game probably more pre-release information/footage than any other AAA MMO I have ever seen prior to launch. So if you don't know what you are getting into it's no ones' fault but your own. I'm all for discussing problems with the game but it becomes obvious when certain people don't want to really have any sort of discussion at all and just are here to bait people in their threads so they can bash the game over and over.
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. I've read through your post history and I'm not sure why you even pre-ordered (not pre-purchased ... which is non-cancellable). These things are exactly as they've been clearly stated. Anet has hidden nothing about their game, yet posts like this crop up as though they are surprised.
1. No raids. (well, raids as they are known in popular MMO's). I certainly disagree with your opinion on GW2 combat, my quesiton is that they have clearly stated form the beginning that they consider the entire game as endgame. Why would even pre-order a game like GW2 if you wanted to raid? That makes no sense at all.
2. No sub fee cash shop that's pay to win ... um, well this has been the same cash shop that's been known for months and suddenly now it's worth cancelling? They announced the cash shop and the types of items in it BEFORE you could even buy the game. Again, why did you pre-order in the first place?
3. Pointless Zerg PvP ... agian, it's the same PvP that they've talked about from the beginning. if you don't want this style, why would you pre-order? Why would you waste your money on a game that clealy wasn't made for you.
4. No endgame. Again, how is this different than anything they have said the whole time? You want end-game progression type raiding. You either didn't research the game or had a strange hope that the game would change.
So basically you are admitting that the OP has the things right as he said ? I mean you confirm there will be no raids why get GW2 if you want raids, you confirm the cashshop (which indeed surprise me that the OP actually could miss this from the beginning), you confirm that the PVP is like the OP is saying and if ppl don't like it then get another game and finally you basically agrees in terms of raiding that the endgame will not have this (I am curious about what will the endgame be? To be honest both swtor and even tsw are suffering from lack of endgame).
I am just trying to be objective since many people bash the OP for what he says yet many actually confirms what he says. If things are like this then there are valid concerns to be worried. To me it's the PVP that worries me the most, since I loved the PVP in Guild Wars 1 and therefor the expectations are high for GW2 PVP. I also tend to dislike the endless capture this fort/cast/flag or whatever you want to call it and then you will loose it and rince and repeat over and over. I would much more see a successful capture lead to the winners getting an oppoturnity to access a normally locked zone for a limited time, where they could adventure and get new items etc. Also if I recall correctly (was it Tabula Rasa??) there was a game that once you won the pvp then you got access to some really nice crafting resource zones which really helped the alliance in crafting new stuff. Just as long there is not this same old style.. capture these POIs and get a world buff etc etc bla bla... that's just so boring and not progressive at all
I myself preordered like a year ago and I will get my own oppinion about this game just some things worries me and some things really keep me interested.
Sincerely!
/Ely
I can acknowledge that these things are the OP's opinion without saying that I agree with them or that they are true. Listening and understanding does not equal agreement with said positions.
If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.
Quite Honestly most of us dont really care. I only glimpsed at your post but the only reason I am posting here is because I am otherwise totally bored atm.
Not sure why people have to announce every little thing they do to the whole world as if its something important. I guess this is an outgrowth of social media services like twitter. Oh I farted 10 minutes ago. I just got a glass of water. I ate something....we dont really care.

If you said that you did those things while playing GW2...you'd have a 14 page thread going...
WoW BildoDoggins is gripping the same things about this game again like he has done for a while now even before they had per-order beta. He has been on the big bite GW2 in the butt because he is truely affraid its going to be the game that does change the market and thats why all the nay says have been up in arms big time lately is because not just hype but the fact and this is fact sorry it is GW2 has had more hype for it sense it was announced 6 years ago and has been the most waited for game ever in history because it has a huge fan base and that fan base keeps growing with all the news on this game thats why GW2 has been at the top of list here for 2 years now almost 3 and not one game has moved it out of its space. Sorry haters but GW2 is going to be that good its proven it time and again and guess what its not even out yet why are so many players going nuts over this game because its just that good it has everything most of us have been waiting for in an mmo for going on 8-12 yrs some even more. The point is your know it's that good just because it does not follow the same set up of the norm does not make it fail it makes it win because it has raiding and it does have end game just not the normal raid or do nothing except roll alt's.
So yes to many of players the end of gear grind raiding/ PVP grind is over now we get a game that fits what we want and you guys go nuts. Also most games that have come out whats been the biggest grips with them hmm lets see not enough end game no end game and when they add more end game it done in one day maybe 2 tops. I remember Cata release people had done all the content added for end game in a day or 2 and where whinning thats it there was not enough. This is in every mmo that comes out no matter what the game people always grip end game 90% of the time even Spellborne and Talbl Rasa had this hell even games like FFXIV had this theres no end game wheres the raids well guess what there not there. I my self raided and hated it because like many said you spend weeks if not months doing nothing but worring about gettng geared to do it again for the next set of raids to me thats more boring than hearing in every mmo I have played your quiting why because I feel I played this before because it copys the same layout as Wow / EQ that I want something new differant but this is the same. Then you raiders say oh give a chance get to end game thats when the game takes off. Why the hell will I spend 80+ lvls to get to the end game when the whole game should be fun not just whats at max lvl.
And yes Bildo Doggins said he would leave and not come back till after GW2 comes out and he knew then GW2 was a failure and has known this sense it started to get big hype after Pax 09 and then its been none stop from alot of people here that GW2 will and was fail from the announcment of it at pax. Hell I read when most give GW2 some praise the haters do come out in droves and bash it more then most games comong out thats fear not hate thats fear that GW2 will be and do that good. So thanks for letting me know I made a good choice on this all the way back when EOTN was released and they said they where going to make GW2.

You have to say that GW2 sucks for whatever reason to get those numbers. If you say something nice about it, it only lasts a few pages.

Anyways, I have not purchased or pre ordered so far. I played BWE2 and I am still looking forward to buy. I think if a game is not fun than that is my only reason to cancel any preorder. Let me ask you a question: Do you hate japanese food if you hate sushi?

Well I am a fan. Prepurchased at first opportunity and will not cancel for any reason.
You feel differently, just like the OP and that is perfectly fine! Why on earth would I have a problem with that? I am not some sort of sadist who needs to see unhappy people ingame.
The majority of GW2 fans feel just like me or are completely indifferent to your choice.
Why do you feel a need to point out that there may be a few misguided people out there being zealous "fanboys"? Does that make you feel better? It does not help the OP, this topic or the GW2 community so WTH is your agenda?
Anyway: I guess this means that both you and the OP will refrain from commenting on GW2 gameplay in future posts?
We dont need casuals in our games!!! Errm... Well we DO need casuals to fund and populate our games - But the games should be all about "hardcore" because: We dont need casuals in our games!!! (repeat ad infinitum)
Each beta time just makes me want the release all the more. I love GW2. If the op doesn't that's his choice. Me? I'm awaiting more GW2 time with baited breath!

well it's you who's missing out but have fun where ever you find it, as for your points:
1. No raids : at last we get rid of this long 3h play over nothing, and it's totally killing the social aspect of every game that has it.
2. no sup: i just love that, and saying it's pay to win, it's totally not and totally unfair to say so, in wow u can just buy gold and be the pay to win guy.
3. no end game: are you for real ? did you even read anything about the game ??? any way even so i will go with what you say, i don't want to grind boring qs till 80 so i can have the so called "End game" i like to call it the Carrot and stick Developers technic.
4. saying that GW2 is wow ???? lol, the combat in GW2 only over come every MMO I've seen to date, under water combat all classes are fun, the great feeling of Exploring the great social aspects, wow will never have that it's that simple.
I think people are confused on why these types of threads get attention. Sure, some people get uptight when you don't use the same opinion as them. Not very realistic but it happens.
This is different.
The OP didn't just say he didn't like GW2. The reasons he used are unfounded opinions as fact for those who might not know any better. This isn't fanboy fanaticism, it's irritation at the trolling he is doing for the purpose of spreading misinformation.
If he doesn't like the game, fine, his enjoyment will not change my opinion of the game in the least. At least be as fair to this game ad you would the one you like.

exactly...not sure why this is such hard concept for people

Tournaments are the more organized side of structured PvP. Talk to the tournament master to join. Tournament play is always 5v5 and matches take place on the same maps that are used for hot join play.
I mean, come on. No endgame? How exactly would you know that? Have you made it there?
The info is out there and available if you want to get informed about GW2's "endgame". Basically all there is to do is the same events and heart quests and pvp you were already doing except it provides no real progression at all. Also the gear provides no upgrades. You can grind a legendary rainbow sword which also provides the same stats as every other lvl 80 sword.

And?
True progression only exists when the best loot is exclusive and based on how much time you invest, rather than if you actually know what the hell you are doing.
That's the message I tend to get from his posts. And most of his arguments I've read have yet to prove that this isn't the case.

OP, I'm glad that you got that sorted out. No game is made to appeal to everyone and there is nothing wrong with not liking what GW2 offers.
Good luck with TSW and your other future gaming endeavors.

well it's you who's missing out but have fun where ever you find it, as for your points:
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Oh god. You sir, are awesome.
Oh really. I thought it was 8v8 zergfest, i must be blind
exactly...not sure why this is such hard concept for people
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Tournaments are the more organized side of structured PvP. Talk to the tournament master to join. Tournament play is always 5v5 and matches take place on the same maps that are used for hot join play.
And?
True progression only exists when the best loot is exclusive and based on how much time you invest, rather than if you actually know what the hell you are doing.
That's the message I tend to get from his posts. And most of his arguments I've read have yet to prove that this isn't the case.
