    Already back and loving it.

VG went ftp last week, 1 week earlier than expected -- but today is the "official" day

It's pretty restrictive. Grouped with a couple of subbed people and went in a dungeon and could not wear any of the drops.   It will be uninstalled shortly  before GW2.

Vanguard, GW2, and DDO are now the games I play untill Archeage ever comes out in the US.

Under most models youd have to pay to enter the dungeon.  Never understood why people prefer the turbine method over the soe method.  content > gear.  Attuning a piece of gear is 45 cents, 22.5 cents if you buy station cash on a double day if you really must wear that gear.

I would rather pay for content than gear!

I know, and I even like Turbines model. Ultimately I will sub, I just hope the population picks up and more people try it. This game is worth a sub of the population increases.

I would try it again, but the f2p restrictions and all are far to insane.  Maybe when they realize restrictions they are doing, much like eq2 are to impractical to keep in place I will give it a shot. Never good when a free trial sounds more appealing then the F2p model.

Honestly, this game was such a flop at launch that they should make all content free with a cosmetic cash shop. Nobody is going to pay for gear drops in a dated game. It's only going to push more people away. Sounds like their f2p model is a let down.
  • teakboisteakbois Member Posts: 2,154

I was looking last night and this is probably the most aggressive SoE games in terms of cash shop.  I didnt see any p2w stuff, but the gear is stronger than the crap they sell in EQ2 (in EQ2 they sold easily obtainabe n game gear for the sub level, VGs still isnt overpowered, but its above the f2p gear unlike eq2) and selling boats IMO is a big non no.

However, this is also SoE giving VG one last chance and they know its never going to grow to 150k+ subs, but if they can get enough money they an develop for it.  SoE is taking a pretty giant leap here hoping enough people will pay eother sub or cs for what they are doing to be financially feasible.

This isnt Aion which is being financially supported by one million koreans and can affod to make next to nothing per player.

If they were smart they'd give free access to everything and maybe some people would become invested in their characters and become more willing to spend cash. As is people are skeptical from the get go. Once they see they have to spend real money to gain gear it'll just be a turn off and they'll move on before ever giving it a chance.

If you went by public opinions you would conclude that SWG was the most populated MMORPG of all time and WoW was a huge , crappy failure.  This is the fourth game SoE has converted to f2p, and if they werent happy with the results they wouldnt keep using the same system.

they dont, you can gain plenty of gear still.  There is tons of blue gear out there, crafted, quested and dropped.

maybe they like the system because it weeds out the immature people that focus on wearing the absolute best gear possible at level 25?

What about max level dungeons? Do you have to pay for those drops? I'm asking because I honestly don't know.

you dont pay for the actual drop itself, its 2.25 for a pac of five attuners if you want to wear it.  Given there is 15 or so gear slots, you can fully outfit yourself for 6.75.  If you dont use unlockers on every minor upgrade that comes along it will definitely be cheaper than subbing, especially if you buy the sc on the double days, which happen often enough.

Before level 50 theres just no need to wear anything above blue.

What is not is the control responsiveness and animations.  They are about as bad as anything that I have ever seen in a game.  You approach a mob and he starts meleeing you from 10 feet away.   You and the mobs run like your on a moving escalator, etc.  Pretty disappointing.

Well vanguard is a gear threadmill mmo, attaining the best gear and items is pretty much the point of the game.

Can't do shit in the game with f2p.

So no point of playing again.

The model, with the gear restrictions, is too restrictive for me to even bother installing.  Even more so with GW2 headstart being next Saturday.

    no, it isnt

The point of the game is to explore the world of Telon.  Thats the design of Vanguard.

there are so many games that do the gear treadmill thing better than VG, if you just want a game based on gear acquisition at max level you shouldnt be playing Vg in the first place.

This is the exact reason I could never play VG.

    @teakbois

Fair enough. But what you describe is essentially saying don't bother running any dungeons until end game. It's not so much about having the best gear as it is the thrill of obtaining an upgrade. Never knowing what may drop. Now people will just skip over lowbie and mid range dungeons because there's no point to it. So players should quest grind to max level? I thought VG prided itself on its wide array of content and players should enjoy the journey. Sounds like this F2P model is handicapping that experience.
