The biggest problem I had with EQ2 Silver membership was the maximum plat limit. It's not to bad up till about level 80 or so but 80-92 you earn so much money that unless you have a friend or alt account on gold level to transfer that plat to you will hit the cap in no time and you can't buy much of anything off the broker with that little money. The Gear and spell tier unlocks didn't bother me to much but if you are changing out gear a lot it might start to add up.
I assume the limit on in game money in Vanguard is also pretty restrictive but I stopped playing that game a month after launch so don't know for sure but the F2P model does seem to let players try the game for some time for free before even needing to consider upgrading since you won't notice the limits until much higher levels. At least Silver that is, not sure how long you could get away with Bronze level.

What if by some miracle SOE produces and amazing game that is just so good everyone is buying it. It is actually the wow killer. Would you give SOE any money to play it?
No
That seems kinda extreme. This is the game of the century I'm talkin about! And since it's SOE you would stubbornly refuse to play it if it required money? That is some serious hatred you got towards SOE. Did they screw you over some how?
Originally posted by TruthXHurts I'm bored and missed out on this one when it was new. I'll give it a shop, but I hate being limited on content.
You're probably not going to come across any real limitation until at least level 20-25. Considering that, though, if you enjoyed a game for 20 levels for free, ponying up 2 or 3 dollars to continue isn't really asking a lot.
more like level 51ish. there is actually zero off limits content, but the 51-55 content might prove difficult in greens/crafted blues. None of the other stuff will though.
so the stated race & class limit of level 20 on my character is not true?
just saying
if i make it to level 20 wouldn't have a problem paying

I had so much lag i couldmt enjoy the game. Game lag and server lag. My computer is a bomb. 16 gigs of ram a Geforce 680 extremely good memory SSD. So basicaly the only reason i could have a decent experience in the past week is because 1- their server hardware sux 2- the game codes are bad and the game cant run smoothly at all time because of the codes behing poorly designed. / I realy doubt that at like 2pm during week daus that the server is overun.
No matter how good the game is and no matter how fun the classes are at the end of the day free or not Vanguard will remain what it is, a very Badly coded game
I am back and enjoying every sec of the game. So freaking awsome to have a game that is not about linear corridors.
Oh, and Ringside the fault lies on your side. Im running this game at 60fps in the noob areas with a single 680 at 2560x1600/everything maxed and forced 4xAA from the Nvidia panel
Eve online and +1500 steam games in the back cataloge makes me a stressed out gamer.

The game is bad optimized compared to others UE3 games but u should be getting 60 fps with your setup
but indeed the game need better coding ,TERA uses the same engine has better graphics and is less hardware demanding than Vanguard
plus they need better server perfomance ,players from US getting 150-200ms+lag spikes in a server with less than 1k players is unacceptable today.

Firstly, it's UE 2.5, the same engine used to run Unreal Tournament 2005, not UE3, which would obviously be much better optimized for current machines.
Second, with the amount of crap that Ringside posted, he should not be having that problem or he's running way too much in the background. I have a setup about half as impressive his alleged computer and I get full FPS with no lag except when switching chunks. And this is with absolutely everything in the game maxed out.
Furthermore, TERA uses UE3 but they also severely altered it to fit into an MMO and get it to their liking. Comparing a game that launched years ago on a previous version of the engine to a brand-new, optimized for the latest hardware version is kind of like saying "well, my motorbike can go 60mph, so why can't my shitty bicycle?". It's shortsighted and, honestly, just stupid. Learn what you're complaining about before you try to make uneducated and completely off-base and invalid complaints about a game's architecture.
I work in games. I do this shit every day, all day. Engines are touchy things, and if gamers would actually shut up for one fucking second and LEARN about the engine they're about to rag on, instead of just saying SOME CODER FUCKED IT ALL UP, we'd all be in a much happier place.
Lastly, Ringside, you're a complete liar. There is absolutely no way that a UE 2.5 game would run that badly on a computer that has those kinds of specs, unless you crammed that GPU, SSD, and RAM into something that's running a freakin' sempron or atom CPU. You do not have a computer with those kinds of specs and if you actually do and I am wrong, then you're still an idiot because I have to run top-end graphics software on a machine barely half that nice to MAKE a freaking game. There is no possible way that a computer like yours would turn Vanguard into a slideshow, aside from registry fuckups of your own accord, a horrible undetected virus, or you've got so many youtube and porn windows running in the background that you've oversaturated your RAM and brought your machine to a grinding halt.

I really liked this game until the devs decided to completely change the diciple class. I absolutely HATED the changes, and didn't even understand why you would take a class people are playing, then totally redesign it. It wasn't just a tweak here and there or balance issue, they TOTALLY changed the way the class was played. So, I quit. I liked it the way it was, and I never asked for them to change it, sooooo....
It's tempting to come back, but I know I wouldn't play that toon, and he was pretty high level. I'd hate to start over again.
The other thing about this game, or at least that character class, is that I never, ever, felt powerful. Like say, in EQ2, as I leveled, I did indeed feel more powerful, along with MANY other games I play. My character leveled, got better gear, skills, etc, and overall, I felt like I was growing in strength. No matter how much I leveled in VG, I just never felt strong. I dunno if I can even explain this to anyone.. it's just the way the class/game "felt" to me. The whole point to me in any game with levels, stats, skills, gear, etc, is to grow powerful. If not, why track and work towards expanding all these stats?
I wonder if my toon even exists on their servers anymore?
I am back and enjoying every sec of the game. So freaking awsome to have a game that is not about linear corridors.

Oh I see. Then I missunderstood you. I have the same loading issue when I am crossing one the many loading borders that the game has (they are shown in the world map). But when I went from a 7,2k hard drive to an ssd (sata2) the loading times that occurs when crossing the lines became much faster.
I dont have any lag spikes atm. But then again Ive only played for +10 hours on my new character. Hope you will stick with the game even it seems to give you some headaches, because its a old fashioned mmo with great art work, fun classes, a nice community and a good (and sometimes silly) lore
Eve online and +1500 steam games in the back cataloge makes me a stressed out gamer.
Seeing the "Vanguard-going-F2P" hype about this game I thought it might be a good idea to try it out... but then oh dear, I have to pay(a small amount but I have to pay nonetheless) for being able to just wear gear? I mean that's just ridiculous in my eyes.
If it were a turbine game you would have to pay to access the dungeon that drops said gear.
There is tons of available, wearable gear. Dont let anyones opinion one way or the other sway you, just play the game for yourself
You can unlock content with in game points in Lotro. Atleast its straight forward. If you want access to those zones, dungeons and skirms you pay and unlock them forever. With SoE free to play the model is so restrictive you have no choice but to subscribe because there are things availabe for subs that even the shop doesn't offer.
I would rather pay to unlock content (or grind for points to unlock) than get nickle and dimmed to death, then find out i still need to sub to access things. SoE model is trash compared to Turbines.
Originally posted by Badaboom It's pretty restrictive. Grouped with a couple of subbed people and went in a dungeon and could not wear any of the drops. It will be uninstalled shortly before GW2.
Under most models youd have to pay to enter the dungeon. Never understood why people prefer the turbine method over the soe method. content > gear. Attuning a piece of gear is 45 cents, 22.5 cents if you buy station cash on a double day if you really must wear that gear.
I would rather pay for content than gear!
So would I actually!
Just how restrictive is it cause I hate to download the whole thing if SOE has somehow byfuckledit up/ Imagine that..

making it a reason not to play is

so the stated race & class limit of level 20 on my character is not true?
just saying
if i make it to level 20 wouldn't have a problem paying
Certain Class/Race after you hit 20 you can't play them unless you are a premium member or have those race/class unlocked.
Also, plat restriction means nothing in Vanguard unlike it did in EQ2.
When playing vanguard think 2000 EQ1 where you can get to cap and only have 4plat if you are lucky****.
