I think people are misinterpreting the message here. It does indeed mean that WoW is a dead game, it's dead because it's so very behind the times, the devs there are doing almost nothing to upgrade it and then expecting people to pay the standard fee for an expansion by Blizzard, and that the concepts in WoW themselves are also dead (gear treadmill centric lobby game with almost no life or consequence).
Edit: had to remove the word Coop didn't fit into a game that uses limiting resources, tagging attacks on mobs, or the requirement to form a group to gain anything meaningful to a game like this.
LOL @ WoW is dead. People have been saying this every expansion after TBC. Look at my sig - somebody said this when cata came out!
For the record - I plan on playing GW2 and I am not currently subbed to WoW. But there is no denying how great a game WoW was (and still is). 9 million players seem to think the game is still alive.
I got in the MOP beta and the Blizzard devs are doing a LOT for the game. The forum interaction from the devs was the best I have ever seen. Blizzard's developers are superior to every game i've seen thus far.
Sure, WoW will continue the formula of being a gear-centric, grindy mmorpg, with a few unique things like the tournament realm thrown in to keep the pvp crowd happy. But thats what it was designed to be. Serioualy. When people say "its the same thing over and over.." well..YEAH...thats what it was made to be.
"was" is the correct word in 2004 maybe it was still good. oh and i explained what i meant about it being dead, you didn't read it completely apparently. and yeah that's what it was designed to be in 2004 since then they really haven't done much to upgrade have they. Kinda makes you wonder what they've been doing with all that subscription money. Other companies don't behave this way.
and just because people refuse to leave their friends or they are chasing after that nostalgic first hit of playing an mmo (like using a drug) doesn't make this game anywhere near what it used to be. they changed too much.
Ladies and gentlemen, I've got bad news for you all:
That text is no longer in the game. The text makes out-of-character references and does not belong in the game as it breaks immersion. Secondly, it is not in keeping with our standards with regard to professionalism and does not reflect the views of ArenaNet as a whole. The artist who was responsible for adding that text left the company a while ago. ~RB
Well I thought it was funny. I am also not surprised at some of the responses claiming it is more than it is. A funny easter egg and nothing more.
Side note, I really wish when you blocked someone, you weren't forced to read their BS when others quoted them. I don't block that often but this isn't the first time Valua overreacted and tried to derail a thread all the while claiming he had good intentions. Sadly I was forced to read his rehashed antics in what was meant to be a light hearted thread.

honestly I m proud of Anet, it was funny, but not very becoming. I just wonder if the artist "left" or wasremoved
I highly doubt that they fired the artist because of that event. Very often artists get contracted for gaming projects and leave when there's no more art to do.
These symbols come from the New Krytan alphabet and when translated you get:
"I played WoW and look at me now, if only I had been like you and stuck to playing Guild Wars 2."
Credits go to Jalinar for translating. Credits go to ANet for making this happen. Credits go to Alot for creating such a sensationalist thread. Credits go to littleXuro for ninja'ing me by 14 minutes. Credits go to (input name of easily enraged GW2 hater) for making this thread live (and die).

I'm pretty sure that South Park didn't get sued for the episode on WoW.

Yeah, if they could've they certainly would've.
They weren't sued because Blizzard worked with them on that episode. From wikipedia:
South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone collaborated with Blizzard Entertainment to craft the machinima used in the episode. They stated in their commentary for the episode they were completely shocked that the company was on board to help them out. The machinima scenes were created using shots of the in-game footage, and re-creation of the characters in Maya, with Blizzard Entertainment providing their own character models and computers to test with.[3] Blizzard also gave the producers permission to use the alpha server of the expansion pack World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade to shoot the scenes on.[3]Michael Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, issued a statement over the collaboration:
"We were excited to hear that the creators of 'South Park' were interested in featuring World of Warcraft in the opening of their new season, and we really enjoyed collaborating with them to make this happen. We're looking forward to sharing the experience with our employees and our players as well when the season debuts this week."[4]
As a reference to the episode, certain South Park Season 10 DVDs include a 14-day free trial for the World of Warcraft. This did not affect the UK release of this season in 2009.[5]
Since the airing of the episode, the fictitious Sword of a Thousand Truths was featured in the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade beta test as a reward to the games arena system, although it did not have the same capabilities as in the show. The in-game caption read "Finely crafted to Salzman's specification."[6] The sword was renamed Gladiator's Slicer and the in-game graphic changed prior to the launch of the Burning Crusade. The visual used for the Sword of a Thousand Truths in the episode was the same as the already existing in-game sword The Hungering Cold. More recently, the sword has reappeared in the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King expansion as the Slayer of the Lifeless (a reference to the line within the episode, "How do you kill that which has no life?"), an entry-level raid drop that possesses the flavor text "Foretold by Salzman."

It's funny on one level, and very insensitive on another level.
You have to remember people HAVE actually died playing WoW, including children and babies, so making jokes about it doesn't really appeal to me.
But end of the day, marketing is usually very insensitive and brutal. I seriously hope this has been photoshopped.
Also this isn't very original, it's been done before -
"You're not in Azeroth anymore!" Rift.
"Global Agenda: No Elves." Global Agenda.
Marketing like this only deters people who play and like WoW from playing the game. Which is a big mistake, with WoW making up nearly half of the western MMO playerbase.
I'll still get Guild Wars 2, but the above is just my opinion.

What can men do against such reckless hate?

Death's due to MMO addiction (Most are due to WoW.) http://www.rpgownage.com/2011/03/697/
