An engine rebuild with Multiplayer capabilities and multi-plataform exportation = New Engine

    Why is a new engine?

Because they are looking for a name for this new engine (official forums)

RPG Site: With development of the new engine you have Yoshihisa Hashimoto has the Technical Director, who is also Square Enix Chief Technology Officer and is head of the Luminous Studio. Could you perhaps share more on his involvement with 14? Has the new engine from 14 been influenced at all by Luminous? Are there certain features that both share such as scaling, etc?
Yoshida: As our technical director, Hashimoto is deeply involved in the technology behind FF14. This includes decisions made regarding the use of middleware technology, as well as coordination and design decisions regarding the graphics engine, the core system, and the server system. He also is the mastermind behind the task management system that our entire team uses to keep track of work flow and deadlines.

It is a completely different engine, yet because the same people working on the Luminous Engine (Hashimoto-san included) helped create FF14's engine, there are some similarities. You could say the two engines are siblings.

It was fun, but stop your nosense.

You're just helping to prove my point. You know that right? That quote clearly states that FFXIV uses a completely different engine to the Luminous engine. I've already proven myself here, I don't see why you are pressing the issue.

So they are looking for a new name for the rebuilt Crystal Tools engine.. good for them.

Enough, i was wrong thinking u was some random guy trying to express your ideas about this matter. The Director/Producer of FFXIV is telling you that is a different engine, but is comming from Luminous Engine and u can say they are like siblings, and u still say you are correct and we are not.

I think you lost the plot a long time ago.

i love this forums Block option! i dont have to read more nonsenses.

Anyway, this game will need a good Beta Phase to polish the entire game, and a great End Game content because around 50.000 players will be tranfered with max level.

I am curious about if they can serve enough End Game Content.

Jeez I hope you have blocked me! Then I won't get anymore crazy posts from you that contradict what you just said a few posts back and totally ignore everything I've been saying.

To anyone reading this, is it just me or did any of those posts from this guy follow the actual discussion? I think there was a language issue.

Yes, you are missing that when it says "It is a completely different engine" in the quote he gave.. they are saying it is a completely different engine to the Luminous engine. It does not say it isn't a new version of the crystal engine.

I do have high hopes for this relaunch, but I'll remain leery and skeptical that it'll add up to be what they promise. A final fantasy MMORPG needs to have the FF staples which includes very extensive storylines, and immersive features. It can't be a game where you have to grind out everything, it needs to flow efficiently and not feel like "just another eastern game".

i am sure they will bring a good story with solid background. I can remember Chains of Promathia Story-line and was preety good. i am more about content and PvP balance.

Here is an old interview (June 2012) that is very interesting and informative, I think it goes to show that they are getting on the right track to bring people back to this game, I think it also clears up any misconceptions people have about the revival of FFXIV

They should have put the resources into a completely new game and engine instead of wasting time and money on the failed one.

Plus, they are going to have to push out some really nice 'free' offers if they expect people to try it again.

i'm sure that they will offer some free stuff. but whether they offer free or not doesn't affect the people who will want to try it unless its free month sub. there are many ways to see if the game is to your liking or not. read lots of reviews and watch alot of gameplay vids is one way of doing this. really, i don't understand why people think se needs to offer free stuff to get their game back on track. they admited that they fucked up from the start and did a complete overhaul of the game. plus they gave us a teaser preview of what to expect in gameplay.

for example, some people thought that the combat system was still the same. but when you read up on yoshi's interview he says you start out with 100% tp now everytime you enter battle. that means you can deliver combos right away from the start. then again some people just think the world revolves around them. oh well

That's now six people that have told you that you're wrong... Jeeze must have to have a pretty big ego to continue thinking you're right when so many people have told you that you're wrong. I don't understand why it's such a big deal to go, "Yeah, I'm wrong, now let's move on!" Apparently that's way too hard for you to do.

Well... I do wish them all the best of luck. Given past history, they are going to need it.  Out side of their hard core of True Believers, I suspect many people are going to be wary about giving the game a second try (or even first try, if they have heard about the games initial launch).

Its too bad, as the graphics are great, and much of the concepts involved could have been a great game. It was just really, really poorly crafted, in the first instance.  I'd hate to see all of that hard work go to waste, so lets hope they did it right this time.

Again, another post that quoted something.. and then ignores what the quote says. Or the reply after it. Just keep saying "you're wrong", that'll make it true. At least I'm making an effort to say why I'm not wrong. You guys ain't convinced me I'm wrong, all you've done is convince me that you lot don't read or understand interviews properly and fill in the gaps in them with whatever suits you best. As for 6 people, there was a time when most people on earth thought it was flat.. didn't make them right. You guys have rose tinted glasses on.

I'm only afraid the game will have functional systems as it should have from the start. Everyone will be amazed by: omg ui actually works now that they will forget the game is just an everquest style game with better graphics. I hope it won;t be this way. I don't want to play EQ. I don't want to do endless quests and raids at the end.

It will have a subscription. I highly doubt that they'll fail due to it. All anyone seems to want these days is B2P & F2P with cash shops, personally I'm highly against the F2P movement as a whole, since no one but The Secret World can seem to build their cash shops free of P2W gear...

You are against F2P because YOU only know of one game that doesnt have P2W items...the entire genre is bad, because of your lack of knowledge of it as well as thinking that you have no voice, no ability or sway to help the industry realize that you want F2P but not P2W...

    ahh, the powerless consumer mentaility...

Nope, I pretty much just like paying my one set price of $14.99 a month for whatever game I'm playing at the time and getting whatever I want in it for that set price. I'm not saying I've not played F2P games, but most of them have P2W cash shops and I'm not much a fan of that.

I suppose that I wouldn't have too much of an issue with the F2P+CS games if they lacked P2W items, but to be perfectly honest, like I said above, I'd prefer just a set fee and calling that a day. Usually if a F2P game (such a LotRO for example) has a sub option + f2p option, I'll just sub if I want to play the game. The limitations on their F2P versions, usually blow.

Cosmetic cash shops change to selling gameplay altering cash shops within a year. If I am wrong, name the MMO that still does not sell game play altering items after a being out a year. it always happens.

If you call yourself a fan of SE and Final Fantasy but you don't forgive them for fucking up on a game and then coming back to make it right by coming back and trying it out then you are no real fan at all.  Fans support the company they like and respect and though you may not like every Final Fantasy installment they put out you want to slay them because they messed up big time?  Almost every company I know of suffers from this at some point in time because it is human error but at the very least SE has stepped up and recreated the game from scratch.

If you as an old player or a new player aren't willing to come and try the game out when it comes out because of a bad inital launch then don't waste our time posting your filthy comments on here because we frankly don't want to see it. Left a bad taste in your mouth so you won't try the game again? That comment leaves a very bad taste in my mouth right there.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also F2P, B2P games suck majority of the time, I will give credit to what Guild Wars 2 may possibly become and it seems secret world is out there too. But I have yet to play a game that is F2P MMO that was worthy of my time.  They just never hold up to the same level of content and expectations of the player base to hold firm. They expect you to spend more than a subscription fee to succeed and the games are never (from my experience so far with them) up to snuff.

That attitude is what allows companies to get away with so much of the nonsense we've seen over the years.  Sure, everyone (companies included) makes mistakes. But this wasn't a case of a simple mistake. SE was told, endlessly during beta that the game had fatal flaws in design and concept, only to be shouted down by SE's True Believers, and ignored by the Dev's.

It was only after the game turned out to be such a disaster, that they started to listen. It remains to be seen if they actually listened and acted upon what they've learned or not.  Contrary to some peoples opinions, no, not everyone deserves a second chance.  Especially in the MMO market at this point in time. Thats why its VITAL to get things done *right* in the first place.  If they have actually improved the game that much, then more power to them.  But real fans, like real friends, will tell one what one needs to know, not just what one wants to hear.

Really I don't know why they called it FFXIV again, most people are turned off by that.

That being said, to me atleast, it doesn't look THAT good (not graphics, the graphics are amazing), but that's just my opinion.

I cant wait to test the game. Imo, FF11 had the best PvE ever. Ive played FF14 and i will return when the game will be ready to be released.

LoTRo isnt F2P its FREEMIUM. F2P does not have a sub option...its called freemium because its part free part premium. Most F2P games only sell cosmetic items, costmes, mounts with a few leveling buffs...those buffs do nothing at end game. The leveling buffs are not more powerful than what you get in sub games just for logging out in a city/tavern. Do you call THAT P2W? getting a bonus for not even playing the game...

After Tanaka gave the reigns to Yoshi-P, many problems were fixed. Leveling is no loner mind-numbing, there is an actual storyline, and various bugs have been fixed.

Yoshi-P had a big job ahead of him and so far, he has not disappointed. I resubbed last month and I'm enjoying every second of it. I played beta and early launch and I was so turned off by the game until I saw a friend of mine play the game as it is today.

Currently, the raids are few but fun. Ifrit and Moogle King are enjoyable. Garuda and Van Darnus are a challenge but fun.
