Makes the disappointment they will have hurt that much more.
I'm telling you now, it will last a month. No meaningful progression=boredom.
Oh, people will play from time to time. Heck, it's free. But everyone will be looking for the next thing all too soon. The game is just too shallow.
I'm just surprised at how people ignore the fact that gw2 is going to be released with the most pve and pvp content in the recent history of mmorpgs.
The personal story, the events, tournaments, wvwvw, world encounters with this epic dragons...
It has progression, that's why there's tier sets for different levels and different quality of weapons. There's also the "explorable dungeons" which are much more difficult than the story mode, so that's the challanging stuff and will probably drop better looking weapons (and you an ask RIOT how much people wanna look good in games.. :P)
Unless you had something else in your mind.

Yeah, I meant character progression. All the content in the world doesn't matter if the game has no character progression. A shallow game with tons of content. Not for me. I just expect more in a mmorpg than straight combat.

In 50 years from now people will ask where you were on August 25, 2012 when the World... of Warcraft ended, christ descended from the clouds in the form of a red dragon and gamers rejoiced at finally having a decent game to play.
Careful now, we've been here countless times before, GW2 will not in any way end WoW. WoW is still a decent game and will rein supreme for a few more years to come. I'll be playing both and there's nothing wrong with that.

I tend to lean more towards this opinion...I like the Game...I think it will fill in well when I'm bored...But my Guild is split 50/50 on it...50% are very exited...The other 50% are looking forward to Rohan much more...
I kind of use my Guild as my own Focus Group...Everyone in this Guild was REAL pumped for SWTOR after Beta testing it...And 9 Months later only 3 are left playing it...The excitement I see for GW2, after Beta testing, is no where near what SWTOR was...So I'm guessing that in the end GW2 's impact will be a little better than say...RIFT...The F2P will help a lot...But I don't think this title will live up to the hype either...We'll see soon enough...
I for 1 am really happy GW2 is selling well, it mean's there are other people out there bored with the SSDD cookie cutter mold mmo's nowday's. The part that drive's me kinda bonker's (and I do it to) is comapring a new game vs a game with 8+ year's of content and developement.
For us that can't dedicate 4-6 hour's 4-5 day's a week to a raiding scedule it's nice having a game with little to no preasure to login for a second job (imho)
Plus there are people that will not rush to 80, and just wander around enjoying the various part's of the game that make them go holy crap that is freaggin awesome!!!
Imho GW2 is made for the people that can't dedicate a ton of time to the game daily, and to me that's all to the good.
I agree with your statement as a whole, just wanted to add a bit....
Content alone means nothing...RELEVANT content is everything, nothing in WoW except for the latest batch of raids/5-mans is relevant due to the way it's designed. Every single bit of GW2 will be as relevant at 80 as it is at any level.

I am not totally sure what to think about GW2. IMHO, it might be the " Wii " of MMORPGs. It has enough quality to be considered good, but is too much of a WOW clone to be considered great. However, it only costs players $60 to join. Overall I think the game will be a win for gamers, but investors will consider it a failure, since after the intial box sales it's preformance will be dismal.

lol,
Game stop loved seeing me coming today pre paying for 2 copies plus strategy guide.
This game is good, it's F2P so ....all those kids who's mom won't buy them WoW b/c it requires a credit card (well says it on the box) will have GW2 to play.
On a side note.. us gamers' hobbie should have a tax deduciton as exensive as it is, and as many times we get burnt.
