    this, well said :)

Eh, Titan will be P2P, no doubt.  Blizzard is waaaaay too focused on monetizing their games for it to be anything else.  Comparing D3 and Starcraft II, they don't even like monetization that enables the community.

I think Titan might take some design ideas from GW2, since that's something Blizzard does (and there's no shame in it).  But I doubt we'll see Titan as a B2P game, not without a RMAH and other obnoxious "features."  Imho, that's a problem with a lot of big name developers; a crazy focus on monetizing everything as much as they can to the detriment of their products.  Heck, a number of smaller developers are like that too.  It disgusts me.

But yeah, just listen to Blizzard corporate talk and you'll see there's not a chance in heck Titan won't be monetized to a significant degree.  Even if WoW loses half of its sub base in the next 4 years or 75%, it is unlikely they'll not have a sub fee.  WoW is old after all, and I am sure Blizz corporate will consider that the main reason why it would lose subs.  They'll figure the Blizzard brand will be enough to get several million subs...and they might well be right.

Popular culture is a funny thing.

Although Wow will never die completely, I can see it becoming a very un-cool game to play.

Happens to all kinds of media in our society.

Agreed. Can't speak for others, but as far as I am concerned, wow is dead to me

Will people kill themselves when the world is out of video games? is a better question.

We know who shot JR, is there anything else in life we really need to know ?

I'm expecting GW2 to be a success, that means more content and a stable game from a company I like, that is all that matters to me :)

The fact that GW2 is B2P with no subs means it's not going to kill anything. It's a one time purchase for anyone that wants to play it.

Will it affect other MMO's payment models? Possibly.

It depends on the overall quality of the gameplay and the longevity it can offer at the level cap AND if people start to think that they get better value for money sticking with GW2 rather than their other MMO. If this leads to a drop in subs for other MMO's, then maybe it could have an effect on the payment model. But that's a lot of IF's.

I wonder if one day, gamers in the future will ask "Will game x kill GW2?"

I doubt it. But it'd be pretty cool if GW2 could someday be as great as WoW has been all these years and people will acknowledge it as the King. Time will tell I guess.

Only if ncsoft make so much money from GW2 that they can acquire blizzard to shut down WoW
  • kaliniskalinis Member Posts: 1,428

Wow has alot of players who probably don't even know what gw2 is. I happen to play wow and tor, I also happen to know about gw 2 but the truth is the casual base of wow probably has no interest in any other game, Wow gives them what they want for the 10 hrs a week they may have to play a game,

The only thing that will kill wow is blizzard and the age of the game, gw2 is buy to play with a cash sh op so u never have to spend any money other then the box purchase so u can sub to any other game u want.

gw 2 sounds fun enough but as its just another fantasy mmo, with ill admit some new mechanics, and story, i have no interest in playing it at this time,

If i want my fantasy mmo fix i will just go play wow which i have played for over 6 yrs and put all that itme and effor into. Im sure alot of the wow player base feels the same way,

Nothing against gw2 , Im sure its a great game but alot fo the wow players are huge fanboi's who will never even consider another game until wow is dead.

No, alot of people forget that the average person doesn't have what today would be considered a mid grade computer(able to play games like GW2)

One thing that WoWs allways going for it is its low spec requirement.  So because games like TSW and GW2 require higher specs they're already shrinking their player base even more.

Not to sound like a doom and gloomer but...

I think instead fo worrying about killing WoW, we should worry that GW2 will still be thriving after the 3-month mark when everyone has at least 1 or 2 max characters and have had a chance to explore all the zones. Will people continue to play their max characters or roll the next alt on their list? Will they become bored like they have in other games?

I enjoy playing alts so I'm positive I'll have plenty to keep me playing. But what about average Joe?

I don't Think Gw2 will kill WOW but it will finally be some competition. We need more mmo' s competing for our dollars. Win win for us all.

WoW is doing a fine job of losing subscribers without Gw2s help. No other game will truly "kill" WoW and put it in the grave, only time will. I think the releases of newer quality games can speed that up, but a single game won't do it. What's truly amazing is how long it's taken for a decent game to come out. Some will probably play both, but sub or not I don't think most will have the time to play two MMOs.

I am a BIG fan of GW2, and in my opinion, WoW can't even hold a candle to GW2. That being said, GW2 won't kill WoW but it will affect it. It may even force change within the WoW model.

The only thing that will KILL WoW is the sheer stupidity of the developers/producers.  They already have millions of people eating up their ("crap") content like it's candy, and paying each and every month for it. If those people quit paying, they lose everything they've worked for, and nobody wants to throw away years of work. (Imagine that, calling what people do in WoW work)

WoW is like a city that has been taken over by zombies, you just abandon the people that are left behind and move on. So no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Yeah i think Blizzard is doing a damn fine job at killing off their player base themselves but no, GW2 will not kill WoW.  There are just too many people that put in WAY too much time into the game to quit.  Although I just can't understand why.  I signed up for the free trial just for the hell of it (really just killing time till GW2 release) and only lasted 30 minutes.  The combat and especially the graphics seem so dated after playing GW2.  It was terrible.

can't remember if I responded to this particular thread about a WoW killer, and off those, one of the GW2 WoW killer threads.  The simple answer is NO.  It will be a combination of games, time, and misteps by Blizzard that will bring it down.

It might give WoW a good shot in the arm that causes Blizzard to fire Ghostcrawler and get someone competent back in charge...

I enjoyed WoW but it's changed so much a lot of the people playing aren't gamers, they're trend followers.

My question is: will GW2 and WoW kill TSW and Tera by the end of the year?

I'm not even sure a WoW2 would "kill" WoW. WoW may very well have been a one-time anomaly in the industry--the right company used the right IP to make the right game at just the right time to take advantage of an impending boom in the right genre.
