Keep making comments like this to give more validity to GW2 fans being 'overzealous'.
God you people are irritating. Luckily GW2 community is full of reasonable and level headed people who outnumber people like you.
O rly? I mentioned MoP too, I was talking about the games that were going to make people not want to play TSW. That's all I was doing. Because you read something into my message is not my problem. Don't call me out based on assumptions, there's enough flaming going on on these boards as it is.

This is sad news. More proof that the P2P model is gone and there is only room left for F2P. I just hope it's only that and not the beginning of the end of the genre.
Game certainly doesn't deserve this. There was some real creative stuff in this one.
yeah sure and you're worse than him because he didn't only mention GW2 he also mentioned MoP, but I guess your blind hate for the game doesn't let you see that (tunnel vision much)
On topic:
had they NOT been so greedy and picked either SUB or CS it would've still had a pretty good chance, the game does have some good points, that said even if the game's main focus is NOT the combat but the missions and conspiracies. If there's fighting the animations and the effects need to be of high quality. I played the beta and quit after an hour because of the weird looking animations and copy paste effects and animations.

EA has nothing to do with it. The game is out now and you don't need a full dev team anymore and nobody in this industry cares about customer service anymore so if I was Funcom I would lay them off too. As they in certain circles it's just business.

yeah especially since anet is hiring ... from the gw2 website as of the last couple days.
ArenaNet is Hiring!
We're actively looking for programmers, designers, and artists to join our world class team. If you're passionate about building online worlds, we'd love to talk to you!
Maybe, it would be a better bet placing your money on them developing a new title asap with the GW2 revenue fresh in the bank.

I would expect ANet will want to jump right into developing expansions since thats how they traditionally fund themselves under their b2p model, and they have been so successful with it for gw1. They may shift people around but I imagine any layoffs would be minimal since they will want to keep up the pace of development. They have a clear advantage over a lot of other developers right now, and their current team makeup is obviously paying off... no reason to lose that momentum by cutting it up.
I doubt Funcom has the same luxury though. They will do what they have to to try to make ends meet.
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

GW2 is box sale/ game code model so they don't have to worry about subs, if the box sales are high then they can plan for expansions, which is what they did with GW. Just have to remember here folks they do , for better or worse, have a buy-to-win cash shop in their games and they aren't going to update content in the way a sub or a sub hybrid game would.
But the fact is Funcom are in deep trouble with TSW not being a super massive hit. They have costs, and firing their people is one quick way to cut them. I am guessing here we aren't far from the nightmare scenario of TSW having less then 100K subs. If that's the case going free-to-play might re-ignite interest in the game.

Game certainly doesn't deserve this. There was some real creative stuff in this one.
F2P is most hated thing by me in gaming industry. Should be banned by law. Ruins quality as nobody will invest real money to create something superb. Only fixed ammount of money every month can provide working servers and constant improvements. Simple economy. You can not have really good restaurant filled with people that will eat your good and expensive food for free. Who you would be? Red cross, helping poor people not being hungry anymore?
But what I really hate most is there actually are NO free games. Game is not free to play if I will HAVE to spend double ammount of regular sub for various shops. And, no, mainly there are no only vanity items, they are mainly mondatory to have minimal enjoyment and progress (as usually as top example here comes in my mind Rappelz). Game that is advertised as F2P should not have any shops of any kind.
Funcom continually puts out fail games so its no surprise they are going under. I bought the lifetime thinking this was a good game/endeavour. Then I palayed to endgame and realized it is just another wow clone. The game will be free to play by xmas and EA will have bought funcom out.
Any graphical, audio, or gameplay restrictions not seen in other mmos but found in FFXIV can be blamed on one thing. PS3
Can only assume if one thinks end game is a WoW clone, they only focused on doing NM dungeons. Been QL10 for weeks and have yet to do any gear grinding.
As for the comments on low subs. They have not said they are struggling with retention, and it's still extremely visible while running around there's still plenty of players. It's simply box sales are lower than they'd hoped for.
Its going to be a rough time for them. Especially with GW2 and MoP. Although I do believe they'll start seeing increases once the surge on those two games cool off, and releasing the raid in October is a wise move.

Same difference. ANET is NCSoft. NCSoft owns that a$$.
