Oh man blizzard feels what is comming.... They know Guildwars 2 aint a fluke like any previous mmo's that came out the last years.
If you played GW2 you never look back to WoW, and even if you play both your not going to log into wow much and end your sub sooner or later.
So many death servers on Blizzard EU already and the storm has yet to begin. Blizzard made the biggest mistake to let 50%/60% of their servers bleed to death and this is going to cost them massive amount of subs.
MoP will be a disaster for Blizzard many people told it already, its a derp expansion not many players are happy about.
Realy looking forward to playing GW2, half of my old guild prepurchased GW2 and alot are playing TSW atm untill GW2 comes out.
I realy hope Arenenet pulls it off and show the world that good mmo's are worth making
In the end we as gamers benefit from it, Blizzard + Arenanet pushing each other to the limits. I bet we hear from Titan before the year is over ?
Here's a further possible sign of desperation from Blizz and also a nice gesture on their part as well.
The other day I was bored and I'm currently between MMOs. So I emailed Blizz and said hey can I have a free WoW trial to check things out before the expansion. They emailed me the next day, told me all the trials have been used up on my account, but they gave me free 10 days of game time. My account was active within minutes of receiving the email. They also told me to ask any time for some free game time. The GM that activated my account also left me a pet in my mailbox.
Maybe it's their standard procedure to give out free time to anyone who wants to check things out, but I didn't think that would be the case.
The experience was actually so positive I would resub for a month if GW2 headstart wasn't Saturday.
Oh No! Not Guild Wars 2! I mean, there is no way it would end up like AION, or Warhammer Online, or Star Wars, or AoC! I'd throw Rift in there...but Rift actually is doing well.
Realistically, I expect quite a few people to play GW2...then go back to WoW. It's been a re-occuring theme as new games come out.

You could be totally right, but you have to admit Blizzard has never gone on as much of an all out offensive regarding any other games release.
Originally posted by xposeidon Good deal, but I'm too much of a casual player now to play two games at once or pay for a subscription that I will probably barely use. Maybe if it had 3 months subscription I'd get it.
I think that is one of the major issues for many people. Many just don't have the time to play two games at the same time, much less afford to pay for a game they're not playing (if they find themselves playing GW2 mostly). After playing WOW for many years, the game just feels old, outdated, static and old fashion to me; it has lost much of its appeal. I guess you could say GW2 is the future, at least for me.
I'm reading a lot of people saying that Blizzard is either being smart or desperate; could it not be both? Could Blizzard not be smart about their delicate and desperate situation?
I think one of the biggest reasons why GW2 is such a threat to wow, as opposed to many games in the past, is due to the quality of the game and the pyament model. Many games in the past attempted to compete with wow with similar mechanics and most importantly with the same payment model. Why would you pay the same for a game that offers less? With GW2 people are asking themselves, why would I not pay less for a game that offers more? I think that is the key.

They had a very similar sale a couple of month ago, which is the one I got, the base game and expansion packs for 10$ each.
What act of desperation was that a response too...?
Seriously, some of the posters in this thread are utterly delusional. Blizzard is trying to get people caught up back into the game so they can rake up MOP sales, them putting taking a jab at GW2 is icing on the cake, but in order for blizzard to rake up more MOP sales, they have to get more people updated on the expansion packs in prepration for MOP. It's a brilliant sales move, rather than fear of GW2.
Yeah, they are desperate alright. They'll make over 2 billion or more off these this year. Billions = Desperate. OK, so you've got some hate for EA/Blizz. I do as well. I just don't feel the need to say stupid things to prove that point.
Anyone who hasn't played WoW and wanted to give it a go instead of just the free trial should be excited about this deal. It's a very good deal.
Anyone who hates Blizzard or "refuses" to buy a Blizzard game or WoW because it's a themepark can just #%%$ off. The sale is not for you.
Someone who plays, can now get their wife / GF / kids their own account very cheaply. So it's a good deal for them.
Seeing as they have done previous $10 sales and the like, it feels like you are overhyping and being unnecessarily harsh/rude to anyone that doesn't see things the exact same way you do.

LOL...I normally don't get into the my game versus yours thing...but this is just crazy lol. When I read that, this is what I saw:
"Please buy WoW for incredibly cheap before August 28th...because once August 28th hits, we're screwed ."
Really? What I saw was "Hey guys, we have an expansion releasing in a month. So now is the time to start your WoW adventures. To get you started, you can buy original WoW and all the previously released expansions for $20 and if you enjoy your time in WoW, make sure to buy the MoP expansion!"
So basically, trying to sell more MoP and increase their subscriptions. It has very little to do with GW2. It's all about them selling MoP and increasing subscriptions.

No one said they never had a sale before. Point is: Huge patch announced week of GW2 launch, fire sale on all WoW stuff (Note: it ends right before GW2 launch not with the launch of the new WoW expansion), release date for Pandaria set 1 month after launch. Yes one of these in isolation would not be significant. Altogether they start to suggest something. No one here is saying WoW will die, stop running, or Blizz will go out of business. However, they are clearly concerned about the impact of the new and shiny on their old and dusty.
I also failed to mention in my earlier post that in my email to Blizz I mentioned wanting to check things out prior to GW2 launch and that's when I got free time.
I've got nothing against WoW. It's an awesome game and I had a great time when I played. If GW2 wasn't launching, you can see in my earlier post, I would totally resub to WoW. IMO as far as themepark games go, where content is king, WoW reigns supreme.

I don't know. What day would you pick? To me, having a week long sale that starts on the 21st and ends on the 27th makes sense...since that when the week ends...

Hey I'd probably pick a date right before the release of a major competitor...but that's just me. Blizzard clearly lives in a bubble and pays no attention to its competition whatsoever. In fact, that's the secret to their success. Absolute ignorance of everything around them.
The last time Blizzard did a similar promotion, I thought it was nice of them. Perhaps I was wrong? Perhaps some kind of awesome game was about get to released but I just didn't know about it? Maybe Blizzard doesn't do promotions unless there's something that's challenging them. Yes, yeees, that must be it!

Originally posted by Badaboom Lol...ok everyone. If you didn't think the strategically timed release and patch for both wow and diablo 3 reeked of desperation, this sale surely will change your mind...
Yes, because the UNIVERSE REVOLVES AROUND GUILD WARS 2!!!!!!
You GW2 fanboys are some of the most insufferable people I've ever dealt with. Funny thing is, all your posturing and conspiracy theories really just show how insecure you are about the game.
/facepalm
The 25th can't get here soon enough, if it gets you people off the forums, IMO.
Yeah because this sale obviously has nothing to do with GW2 [rolleyes].
Fanboys or not...if you don't see that this is in response to GW2, you are blind.
WOW has been doing this for 7 years now. Everytime a new high profile MMO is about to be released fans start claiming how 'WOW is scared' or 'WOW is desperate'. You think GW2 fanboys are first to do this and make ridiculous claims like these? Been there done that.
What surprises me is that you guys learned nothing in past 6 to 7 years. Amazing really how foolish people are.

They could give it to me free.
I still wouldn't play because they took away the one aspect I was willing to try the game again for.
