LOL...I normally don't get into the my game versus yours thing...but this is just crazy lol. When I read that, this is what I saw:
"Please buy WoW for incredibly cheap before August 28th...because once August 28th hits, we're screwed ."
Really? What I saw was "Hey guys, we have an expansion releasing in a month. So now is the time to start your WoW adventures. To get you started, you can buy original WoW and all the previously released expansions for $20 and if you enjoy your time in WoW, make sure to buy the MoP expansion!"
So basically, trying to sell more MoP and increase their subscriptions. It has very little to do with GW2. It's all about them selling MoP and increasing subscriptions.
Then why end it before the 28th of August? If it has nothing to do with GW2, its quite the random choice for a date and may I add, quite the councidence.
I don't know. What day would you pick? To me, having a week long sale that starts on the 21st and ends on the 27th makes sense...since that when the week ends...
Hey I'd probably pick a date right before the release of a major competitor...but that's just me. Blizzard clearly lives in a bubble and pays no attention to its competition whatsoever. In fact, that's the secret to their success. Absolute ignorance of everything around them.
I'm surprised GW2 fans would even be afraid of WoW and it's sale. Just because they are offering an amazing deal doesn't mean it will affect GW2 at all. Most people that intend to play GW2 have already bought it.

If you actually read the thread we addressed that already.
You "addressed it" with factual evidence I suppose.
I don't know you'd have to go back and actually read the thread.
I'll save you the trouble - no one in the thread ever said WoW doesn't ever put stuff on sale. However, you've got a major patch advertised to launch the week of GW2's launch, a huge sale that ends the day GW2 launches, and an expansion 1 month after that launch.
Again no one here is saying Blizz is going under or WoW is going to die. Their business tactics however are blatantly obvious. GW2 is not the WoW killer and no other game will be either.
You're obviously free to have your own opinion. However, it appears the majority of people in this thread that don't agree simply don't agree because they feel like the posters with contrary opinions to their own are suggesting WoW is dying or Blizzard will be out of business.

Agreed. I think wow-fanboys are misunderstanding what we (at least me) are saying. We're not saying that WOW is going to die or anything like that. All we're saying is that it is clearly obvious what Blizzard is doing here. It's not just that the pre-MoP patch is arriving on the same day as GW2 releases, or that MoP is arriving almost exaclty one month after GW2 releases, it is also that Blizzard is having an all-wow products sale which ends right before GW2 releases. I'm still amazed that people deny all of this has nothing to do with GW2. Denial anyone?
Oh No! Not Guild Wars 2! I mean, there is no way it would end up like AION, or Warhammer Online, or Star Wars, or AoC! I'd throw Rift in there...but Rift actually is doing well.
Realistically, I expect quite a few people to play GW2...then go back to WoW. It's been a re-occuring theme as new games come out.
Agreed I find I go back to WoW when I'm away from home ( as I am now ) . But its more because my laptop is pretty ancient now and WoW is about the only mmo it will play while I'm away . I wonder how many units GW2 will shift in its first year . I've been following a few threads about this on the net and the low end predictions are 3 million copys and the high end surpasing WoWs 12 million . I think it will bring new people into the mmo genre but I know most people that I play WoW with are intending to try GW2 (and probably keep a WoW sub going alongside it ) .
The danger for Blizzard is if GW2s endgame ends up being amazing then suddenly those people that are keeping the subs going will think is it worth my while keeping a sub to WoW when I'm spending most of my time in GW2 . I think what it will boil down to is how many people prefer pve/raiding and how many people prefer world pvp/questing/dynamic world events . For me the latter is far more appealing and less boring than doing the same raid over and over again .
I'm actually excited by GW2 where as I find WoW stale . I don't think I would have found it stale even after all the years if there was an emphasis on questing and world pvp but when people are leveling they seem to grind one raid after another these days . Essentially whats happened is many of the changes have taken the World out of the World of Warcraft . Its a bit like the Australian outback these days . Its there but hardly anyone uses it .

This happens every freakin time a new MMO is about to be released. When will people learn that WOW has no reason to be scared of any MMO.

Why even mention Gw2?
Really don't think blizzard care anymore, since everytime "the next new big mmo of em all" is released, WoW doesn't loose that many subs. A few years ago they had like 12 mil subs, now they are down to about 10... Serious thats about the same as all other mmo's together..
For blizzard, Gw2 is just another mosquito on the wall. Enoying untill its killed. (not hating on gw2. Im gonna play that game aswell).

I don't have the facts, but I would GUESS (there...better? lol) that they would want to get into early access. You know, the one that starts before the WoW sale ends....
Sigh..this guy is perfect example of what i just mentioned in my last post.
Fanboys claimed the end of WoW when: WAR, AoC, Swtor and now Gw2 were about to be released. Look how it went with WAR that really got hyped to be a WoW killer... Blizzard even gained subs after that game was released.
Oh No! Not Guild Wars 2! I mean, there is no way it would end up like AION, or Warhammer Online, or Star Wars, or AoC! I'd throw Rift in there...but Rift actually is doing well.

Its been mentioned because this promo by Blizzard ending on the 27 th august is designed to coincide with the release of Guild Wars 2 which is out on the 28th of August . Maybe had they done it next week or last week or the week before that or pretty much any other time since a huge chunk of space rock dropped on mexico and killed off the dinosaurs 65 million years ago then perhaps no one would have brought up the subject in this thread . As it is the two are linked and its quite fair game to mention it .

<Snicker> yeah that's it...I'm "afraid" of WoW. Honestly, I like WoW and if I weren't tired of it, I would be playing it now. Also, if MoP somehow turns out to be better than GW2...I will stop playing GW2 and resub to WoW.
I just find it funny that WoW has a huge sale going on that LITERALLY ends the SECOND GW2 is released. Don't you find that a bit amusing ?

I'm ignoring the entirely random date choice...and focusing on the asesome deal being offered to people who haven't played WoW.
So, aside of the date, anyone playing MMOs at all that isn't too jaded against WoW should be able to agree that it's a sweet ass deal. And a sweet deal coming from a "greedy" company (/sigh) is a rare thing. Maybe once or twice a year at most?
This week only, you can get the World of Warcraft Battle Chest for $5, Wrath of the Lich King for $5, and Cataclysm for $10 when you buy directly from Blizzard.
That’s 75% off the regular prices, making this a great time to set yourself up for the imminent launch of Mists of Pandaria… or to invite a friend to join you in Azeroth.
Hurry, this offer ends August 27, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
personally i think WOW should be bundling expansions anyhow
what happens to new players from September forward?
do they have to pay for 4 expansions to see endgame?
I agree and EQ2 was doing similar, they gave the entire game for free except the most important end level xpac where the majority hang out.
If we look at what EQ2 is doing, then i would say Wow SHOULD be going all free except maybe the last expansion. After all at 15 bucks a month,it won't take long to get some decent cash out of players and they have retained players longer than other games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
To be honest, I feel like this should just be permanent. If that was the case then there wouldn't be much of a big deal and it's a bit easier on people's wallets.

Hey I'm not against the sale at all, I think it's great for folks that may be on the fence for WoW or even MMORPGs in general. All I'm saying is...the timing is interesting, and I don't think it's random .
At the end of the day, competition is good for consumers, and this is a shining example of that. I think Blizzard does, and should, see real competition in GW2...and they are reacting accordingly.
I will never forget how much I enjoyed my time with WOW, but I swear, some folks have their heads so deep in the sand that they wouldn't notice their ass being chewed off by a giraffe.
There is nothing random about the timing of this promotion. Good luck, homie.

Giraffes are vegetarian you would have to have some folliage stuck up your hind quarters for it to be interested in it . If it were bamboo its a possibility a panda might come and sniff it given they are also vegetarian . I think though the only animal thats ment to stick it head in the ground is an emu although in actual fact its probably more of a myth than anything so given they are australian the liklyhood neither a giraffe or panda would be with in in sniffing distance so the likliest culprit would have to be a kangeroo which is also a vegetarian .
on a side note famous other vegetarians include paul mc cartney and hitler and the only person i ve ever seen with folliage anywhere near his ass area is morrisey from the smiths ( who probably is a vegetarian too ) given one of the albums was called meat is murder .
The moral of this story is not to trust vegetarians they break up the Beatles , hop around with not a care in the world , have no place in a fantasy game , are nasty dictators with funny mistaches , sing depressing songs about thier girlfriends being in comas or have very long necks .

thank you, and yes, much better :-)
<Snicker> yeah that's it...I'm "afraid" of WoW. Honestly, I like WoW and if I weren't tired of it, I would be playing it now. Also, if MoP somehow turns out to be better than GW2...I will stop playing GW2 and resub to WoW.
I just find it funny that WoW has a huge sale going on that LITERALLY ends the SECOND GW2 is released. Don't you find that a bit amusing ?
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
I'm ignoring the entirely random date choice...and focusing on the asesome deal being offered to people who haven't played WoW.
So, aside of the date, anyone playing MMOs at all that isn't too jaded against WoW should be able to agree that it's a sweet ass deal. And a sweet deal coming from a "greedy" company (/sigh) is a rare thing. Maybe once or twice a year at most?
Wow, they're pulling all the stops.
A very sweet deal for gamers!
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
You do that, buddy. More power to ya
I will never forget how much I enjoyed my time with WOW, but I swear, some folks have their heads so deep in the sand that they wouldn't notice their ass being chewed off by a giraffe.
There is nothing random about the timing of this promotion. Good luck, homie.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
I'm a carnivore myself and proud of it :P
no thx gw2 is coming in 2 days baby
desperate attempt from blizzard wich wont change anything .
